Rocky Long

Florida has no state income tax, which means Social Security retirement benefits, pension income and income from an IRA or a 401(k) are all untaxed. Florida has no estate or inheritance tax, and property and sales tax rates are close to national marks.

yeah, but you gotta live in FL

Have kids...or get close to retirement...it gets real Chugg

I would agree in a normal person situation. I don't believe it would be much of a factor for a guy that has been an NCAA head coach for 20 years and 9 at SDSU and one would assume has multiple millions in the bank. Plus his wife has some kind of existence in the equine community. Any move he makes is 100% football based.

It's tough choice for sure, I've been to FL a bunch and it's interesting for sure but man I do love the no tax part lol.
Come to TN...mountain streams, farm land, 4 seasons but almost no snow...no state income tax, property taxes are 1/5th of NY. Actually, dont come...its getting crowded :)

I am hopeful that this will end in good news for Syracuse and that Rocky Long will be our new DC.

My parents are moving about 10 minutes from TN and I've been to Nashville, really liked visiting...so it's pretty tempting lol.

A DC hiring announcement around 11 PM EST would help to offset other non sense going on

Contemplating TN as our next stop. Have lived in NY, CA, FL, TX so far. Might have to do the Pacific Northwest just out of principle to knock out the 4 corners of the country but TN is quite appealing.

I loved Nashville and I love Tennessee. Definitely a place on my retirement radar.

I was on the top of Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga a few years ago and there's a lacrosse goal in somebody's backyard up there. I couldn't believe it.

Wonderful state. Friendly and all about fun.

We come up to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area quite often. I love the Smokey Mountains. I would love to buy a cabin and retire up there but I dont think Wifey will go along with that.

the no income tax is great but many costs are way higher..

Plus Retro gave me this tidbit in regards to California: Income from retirement accounts and pensions are fully taxed, at some of the highest state income tax rates in the country.

I'm not retired in NY..,but I don't think NY is quite as bad for retirees as California.
Believe first $20,000 each year of pension and/or tax deferred withdrawals are not taxed in NYS.

I spent a night in Chattanooga and two nights in Nashville. Granted, I was on a Civil War trip, but I liked Chattanooga better.

No more moving to Florida. Half of my town is already medical facilities for the amount of retirees and the driving is bad enough
Every single time I visit my son there I see at least one burned out car (I mean completely burned) on the side of the highway. My theory is it's because annual car inspections are not required.

I listened to the full segment on that Podcast. The guy said he has a source who told him that Rocky feels that he has taken SDSU to the highest level possible in the Mountain West and is looking to either retire or take a nice paying DC role at a P5 program. He referenced Junior Seau a long time ago saying that he was going to retire but then wound up signing with the Patriots a couple weeks later

They did talk about SU for a little bit and said that even though they feel SU is a middle of the pack ACC program at best, SU can still offer more to Rocky than SDSU can.

Edit: The guy also said he thinks Rocky will make a decision by the weekend

It's a nice little town. The aquarium is great, the downtown is going the way of all renovated downtowns, there is (I believe) free wifi in the entire city, and some good rock climbing in the surrounding river valleys. Atlanta and Nashville are both only about 2 hours away as well.
