ron thompson

one team picking him doesnt mean most wouldnt have.. the colts saw what we all saw.

So how do you figure 3/4 of the teams wouldn't have picked him? At all? That makes no sense. Maybe everyone didn't value him as highly as the Colts, but it makes no sense to say that an early first round pick was not wanted by most of the league.

few teams thought he could be a NFL De. the colts did and glad of it. he had far better speed than thompson does and was much stronger at the attack. Ron could go as an OLB reach. if he gets drafted as a DE then thats great for us he will have had a super great year.

ok I remember now, we redshirted him as a frosh because I think he was hurt right, and then we decided to switch him from TE to defense. he is a playmaker on defense, probably our best player right now.

Indeed. His injury I believe was pretty serious, potentially career threatening if I recall correctly from the readings/threads posted on the board at the time. He was a 4 star recruit coming out of high school I believe...imo, not coincidental at all that with his rating, he's one our best players...just like size...stars matter. ;):)

I'd compare him more to Chandler Jones than Freeney anyway. Freeney was a unique talent, and basically every Orange end that will come along will look ordinary compared to him.

But Thompson has similar size to Jones, and like Jones he flashed potential early but took some time to come into his own and while he's become a good college player in his 3rd season of playing time, he may only be scratching the surface... much like Chandler was during his last year at Cuse.

These four games he's been much more of a force player than Chandler ever was. Plays with a higher motor and is much more physical.

Honestly, Thompson reminds me of a bigger version of Jameel McClain more than anyone else mentioned in this thread.

i agree with this. chandler had measurables that exceeded his actual game play. thompson has made a ton of plays this year. but jones was high on draft boards and thompson is not even listed.. if he dominates the rest of the year maybe he can.

great for him. do they want him as an undersized DE ? some people thought teams wanted Hickey too and lots of teams want to see if they can make something of marginal guys, thats why they draft 7-8 and sign 20 FA every year.

he made some plays today but of the 20-30 guys on both teams playing D he wasnt in the top 10 on the field. now if you want to talk about the LSU MLB that guy is a beast.

maybe he does. but right now he is not even list in the top 50-75 of most DE draft boards. he needs a big season and have teams willing to throw a late round draft pick at someone changing positions. we have had many kids leave the last few years, how many are actually making teams and really playing in the NFL?
Yeah I think the coaches are expecting him to have a big year, but I wouldnt compare Thompson to Chandler or Freeney. I would compare Thompson to the DE opposite side of Chandler, former Pitt Panther Jamaal Sheard

I'm having trouble finding his eligibility, do we have two more years of this kid or just one? he is damn good.
He will be gone for sure unless we get "VERY LUCKY"We need one of this year's big resume Des to get ready in this off season.Pivkard or Amir (sic)"?" or perhaps a true freshman coming in this coming fall 2016.

It was probably the 5 sacks on Michael Vick that kept other teams from drafting him. Unimpressive .

Sugar bear isn't an undersized DE. He's 6'4 and 265+. Him wearing the number 13 makes him appear more narrow than what he is.

Aside from that he is just getting back up to full game fitness after his preseason injury. USF will be the first game where he's pretty much 100% and I'd venture to guess he'll have a substantial highlight reel by the time this season is over.

the way we do the measurables he is probably 6-2 240.

You do realize that he's actually big and fast? Yes he's muchbigger and taller than freee was in college. You keep making it sound like he's small.

He's NOT undersized l!!! You need to stop make ng ridiculous comments. Just obnoxios actually how wrong you are.

IMO Thompson is much better than Jones was in college. He realy didn't have that great a college career. Thompson seems much more dominant.

6-4 260 is undersize for most NFL teams. i just randomly looked at 3
the giants have 5 DE it would make him bigger than 1 of the 5.
the bears DE avg 275
the ravens have 6 they avg 300 lbs. only 1 under 295

i'm sure that on some teams he would fit in, just needs to find the right team.

if he goes to the NFL it means he had a great year and thats good for SU. i dont see it yet but i have been way wrong before..

and dont let the fact that the draft boards i looked at dont have him listed.. CBS has 75 on their DE board he is not one of them. maybe he is there and i didnt see it.

I can tell you one thing. The coaches dont expect him to be on the team next year.
Well that's just -in fantastic. So we'll lose our only playmaker on D next year just as he has a breakout season. Is the NFL becoming the NBA? Are we not allowed to return any star talent anymore?
