Say what you will about the opponent

Flying around out of position is not good defense.
People want to pit Benny against Malik, not you. But, Malik doesn’t get those rebounds either. They were great at building a wall around the basket. Maybe Benny should have given up like everyone else.

We have to live with Joes shot selection. I’ve been watching him since HS and this is what he’s always done. The coach is clearly ok with it. If he wasn’t he’d do something about It. Mintz will get plenty of shots as well. We have nobody capable at forward to share the load offensively.
Exactly. I was very happy to see Bell make a couple of shots. We needed them and we need more of them.

7 or 8 seed. That would be top 30 in the country. we would need guys to make jumps I just don't see happening. I would be stunned if we made the NCAA. I am worried about a real disaster. I don't mean 16-17 again.
Good for us the ACC is awful again. Our first 3 ACC games are against BC, Pitt, and Louisville. They are all baaaaddd.

Hopefully we’ll develop cohesion on offense. We’re rarely looking like we’re working together but it’s early.

Needed to find a way to win and did. Hopefully we’ll scrap out another tomorrow and get a lot better as the year goes on.

Richmond CRASHES the boards. Benny can’t fight all the guys going for the boards himself. Nobody can. But, he got his hands on the ball often and was in the floor more than anyone. That effort made a difference.
Correct. They do crash. They often wait until late in the shot clock and once they engage, both wings made back cuts to the rim, which worked a few times, but also allows them to be in position to rebound (while we are simultaneously extending due to the expiring shot clock). And it got them about 6-7 extra possessions (and I am not counting the final possession).

Also, Jesse only playing 7-8 minutes in the first half had a hand in the rebound deficit.

And Benny often tried to get in there from a wing position to get a rebound and gets crapped on for it.

As much as Joe won us the game, he also almost lost it too.

Those 30+ foot heat-checks 10 seconds in to a possession have to stop.
It’s effectively a TO, which often leads to a break going the other way.
Agree and I am very thankful Joe carried the load for us tonight. The other puzzler was when he stepped to the line after being fouled on a 3 point shot and only went 1-3. I was shocked at that point and said I hope this does not cost us the game.

Boeheim was one of the best in the country when Igor was doing his thing.

I, and many others, are just frustratedly pointing out the obvious.
The problem as I see it, is that many here have a blind spot with Joe. Only see his faults. Which are clear. We heard the same about Cooney and the shots he took. Joe has faults. But this team is so very flawed he has to do much of what he does because the others are just so limited. We have two guys that I am if someone else is taking a shot, I find myself praying. Joe and Judah I am not unhappy with them taking a shot. No matter the result. If we had other players (Swider) I would fell differently. But we don't.

Yeah, that won’t happen very often.

I thought it would

How could he be? 1 on 4 is not great odds.
Because he doesn’t actually attack the ball. His positioning is bad. He’s just trying to get a cheap steal. Which should have resulted in at least one more foul when he took that guy down. He does not have the nose for where the ball is going.

A lot of doom and gloom on the board. It wasn’t pretty and it’s not the standard we’re used to but a win is a win. There seems to be some improvement from the Colgate debacle. It’s a young team and it’s not even Thanksgiving. Bell made some big shots. Judah looks like a star in the making. Hima is a defensive force and seems to be (at least in my humble opinion) more of an impact than many of us were expecting.

Hoping to see more of the bench tomorrow and how we build off of it. But thought for sure we were losing with 6 to go so I’m going to bed a happy man!

Oh we don't disagree. Disaster seems more likely and only 1 win at a time chips away at that. Tonight was step 0.5.

I think maybe everyone here is right? Joe kept us in the game and also made some bad plays. Capable of playing smarter, but also had a much needed 30.

Just think at the guard position, there is no other option who is going to play over him. So we have to learn to take the bad with the good and hope the growth of Mintz and company alleviates his need to heat check so much.
There is never a ’need’ to heat check.

I thought Bell showed a bit of why JB has been giving him the starter role tonight. Encouraging

Joe needs to shoot a lot, I agree.

Doesn’t mean every bad shot he takes is ok.

I don't disagree with that at all. I just think we could have saved that for
another night. There were other players tonight that didn't bring what he
did to the party. And I don't mean just pts.
