Class of 2020 Seth Towns

The plus side of JB's tendency to have a short rotation is that Towns has to believe he gets more PT/more opportunity at SU than he would at Duke (who has both a 5-star SF and a 5-star PF coming to campus next year).
He is going to Ohio St in my opinion. To add to all of our other problems, the virus believe it or not, hasn't helped. It has been very tough to get him up to visit. He already knows Ohio St.

Lol
Surprise that Duke has an interest because of the status of the roster and incoming players. They have 6 commitments coming in next year. They need 2 of the current roster to leave (transfer, go pro, whatever) in order to accommodate the incoming commits.

So, to add Seth Towns to the roster, Duke would have to lose yet a third player from their roster.

Coach K dont care about breaking some eggs

Come on, man? Let me offer you these counter examples from OUR program whose career took off their sophomore or junior seasons:

Sherm
Hakim
Shumpert
D.Johnson
Nichols
Etan
A.Rautins
Fair
Battle
Burgan
K.Joseph

There are more ...
You make a fair point most of those guys weren’t expected to carry the team as Freshman/sophomores though.
We had better teams around those guys.
Plus JB played more players.

Nowadays it’s inconsistent the standard in how you get playing time.
For some players they have to be offensive first and defense isn’t held against them.
Others they have to play defense the right way or they sit.

Also not all of the players you listed were developed as sophomores.
Rautins and Nichols weren’t what they were.

Some players get treated differently. We have major talent issue right now. It’s not improving next year.

The staff wasn’t expecting to lose Goodine. We did. That isn’t good.
You can tell a Freshman you are goin to sit one year when their is a Senior like Scoop Jardine in front of you.

Tell a Freshman he is going to sit behind a fellow freshman who isn’t miles better than them and playing time won’t even be there in the future is not going to get patience.

Buddy and Girard are not guys who should be playing superstar minutes.

Towns should look at our program and want to play here. If playing time matters.
The fact we have the playing time advantage and couldn’t seal the deal is not good.

We need a player like Towns next year.

Players are treated differently because they have different responsibilities. If your number one responsibility is to rebound and your not guess what.

Out of respect for Towns come at me with these points in the other thread.

We should be keeping it about him here as the moderators are respectful.
Make this point in another thread if you want a response for me and I will give it.

Girard is miles better than Goodine. Girard has a great handle, can pass and shoot from deep. Gooodine can’t do any of those things.

But what about Seth Towns? Can he deliver the bacon?

To the staffs defense I will say we don’t really know what a healthy braswell can bring or ajak

Here’s

Goodine has a very nice upside. That will prove true at PC.

None of their recruits are the elite top 10 type that he’s been winning with. Duke needs more firepower cause Carey and Jones are gonezo.

Remember when he wouldn't take 1 and dones?
Pffff Duke one and dones are so yesterday. They need to catch up to the modern day one and dones like we have, where we have players come in and play 5mpg for a year and then transfer. That’s the new one and done (all joking aside best of luck to Goodine at PC)

Goodine has the same upside he did coming into this year. Upside doesn't get you on the court and he didn't produce when he was on the court. He doesn't have to prove he has upside at Providence. He has to prove he can produce. He's not the first 4 star to get beat out by a 3 star, thats why they get to match up against each other.

Yeah, like Jordan Tucker. Oh wait...

Not going to happen. I think people are underestimating how much Guerrier could improve. Bras and Newton could also help the front court along with our two young bigs. I wouldn’t write off next years team.

Im far more bullish now for next years team than I was at this point for last years. much more likely to get to the tourney and grow from there

As it currently stands, it’s a bubble team at best, and I’ll stand by that.

As it currently stands Elijah Hughes is on the roster. Few teams return their top 6 players and don't improve a lot. Plus a 2nd year center, 2 redshirts and 2 pretty good recruits. Look who is left, not who isn't. And this is without even trying to replace the 3 that are leaving.

Remember when he wouldn't take 1 and dones?

Remember that letter one of their pompous, ugly students wrote to Elton Brand? Elton’s response forever made him one of the only Dukies I like.

Unfortunately, I feel like it'll be Ohio State. He went back home to Columbus recently (could just be corona related) and shortly there after said he was deciding this week. Hope I'm wrong and he sticks to his academics (creative writing interest) and chooses SU. He would be a great fit if staying healthy isn't and issue for him anymore, but that is also the catch with Towns (has had some pretty bad knees). We shall see...

This may have been said already. We all expect Elijah Hughes to go pro primarily because of his successful season and his age. With the event of this virus situation which has cancelled several sporting seasons, Hughes may come to the realization that a college degree (undergrad or graduate) may be more advantageous than waiting to be drafted into a league that may not play for the near future (up to six months or more).

Now, there are a lot of holes in my statement above but if the virus lasts six months, it may be wise to stay on scholarship.

Graduate transfers eligible immediately

1. Seth Towns, 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, SF, senior, Harvard
The 2017-18 Ivy League Player of the Year, Towns missed the past two seasons because of knee injuries. If he's healthy, he's the clear-cut No. 1 player on this list, especially because he should have two more seasons of eligibility. He averaged 16.0 points and 5.7 rebounds and shot 44.1% from 3 in 2017-18. Kansas, Virginia, Syracuse, Ohio State, Michigan, Maryland and Duke are among his suitors.
