They need to get someone to play SF that can do a little bit of everything. I don't want to hear the excuses.
Right. A grad transfer who has any hopes of playing beyond college is looking for a high visibility scenario where he can step into a featured role, play maximum minutes and can showcase existing skills. Like a school where the focal point of the offense is departing and there is a glaring need to fill that spot with a plug and play option. Let’s see. Anyone know of a situation like that? That was a regular transfer. This is a graduate transfer. As strange as it sounds, there's a difference.
We’re losing the leading scorer of the ACC and have no one else coming in to take the shot attempts that are leaving. It’s a no brainer for TownsRight. He’ll have all eyes on him against top comp in the ACC. Yes he will have comp in the big 10, big 12, etc but outside of this year the ACC is the big dog typically. You go to Kansas, there’s gonna be kids above you, Ohio State has a lot of talent even after Wesson is gone, Maryland will return ayala, Wiggins, Chol Marial, Virginia is bringing in a great class and also will have Sam Hauser next year from marquette. Michigan has Livers, Wagner and a great class coming in as well. Point being, is there a situation at one of those schools better for him than us? My guess is it’ll come down to us, Ohio State (hometown school) and Maryland. We’re losing the leading scorer of the ACC and have no one else coming in to take the shot attempts that are leaving. he would be a grad student with immediate eligibility, but he's more like a regular transfer because he has multiple years of eligibility remaining. strange as it may sound, that's a differenceThat was a regular transfer. This is a graduate transfer. As strange as it sounds, there's a difference.
My question is can he put it on the floor and create for others? If he can’t, our offense will once again be easy to guard.

Agreed. And this is also why I think Richmond is going to play and contribute next year. His ability to get to the rim, finish with either hand, and create for others is a skill set that no one else on next year's roster brings to the table. My question is can he put it on the floor and create for others? If he can’t, our offense will once again be easy to guard.

Yeah, I thought he was kind of an unusual case.he would be a grad student with immediate eligibility, but he's more like a regular transfer because he has multiple years of eligibility remaining. strange as it may sound, that's a difference
So Towns would fill Hughes scholarship.
Carey’s would go away.
To land Tape as well somebody else on the roster has to leave as well.
Washington, Braswell are probably the guys to look at.
We're losing a 1st team All ACC forward. Nobody is going to come close to replacing that production, but maybe a combo of Towns and Tape would come close. Tape would help the spacing and make it harder for defenders to choke the shooters. My question is can he put it on the floor and create for others? We need Towns though as we know we are likely losing Hughes.I think that roster movement might be a "signal" of where we stand with these two transfers.
If we see a couple of players get "The Talk" this offseason, I'd view that as a sign that we've got a great chance with these two recruits.
If you mean Carey leaving gets the scholarships down to 13, I hope not, as that would mean that we have 14, and 13 is all you can have.We need Towns though as we know we are likely losing Hughes.
I don’t know Tape’s time frame for announcing his choice but that will give us a picture as well.
Carey gets us to 13.
Hughes to 12. Towns replaces Hughes.
To get Tape then one of the guys on the bench now gets the talk or Buddy becomes a walk-on.

We have 12 players right now plus 2 recruits who signed LOI.If you mean Carey leaving gets the scholarships down to 13, I hope not, as that would mean that we have 14, and 13 is all you can have.
I assume you were just off one, or I am misinterpreting the post.
I think our guards will get better with time. Both will be very good on offense. And while they will never, ever, be real good on defense, they can get better with experience.Towns is an important get. Obviously just his abilities alone alongside possibly bringing Tape.
I think the most important players next year though will be Carey/Goodine and Richmond. From a who goes, who stays and more importantly who can be the guy we don't have right now in a guard who can handle it, guard the 3, play PG and get to the rim at will. Until we fill this void I just don't see how Towns and Tape are even enough. Guard play rules. Then you need shooters and wings and then finally some guys who can defend the rim and rebound.
A lot must happen in both development and roster additions to get there but I still would argue if we can't solve the issue at Guard- the rest means little.
wrong threadIf he doesn’t want us I don’t want him. Move on
