Class of 2025 SF Shon Abaev (FL) Offered

Would not be surprised if we land this kid.

I would be ecstatic with Frost, but if we can get Abaev with Kiyan we are rolling.
Shon would be a great pick-up. Based on a few convos I've had with analysts of late, if we're talking about wing players in 2025, I get the sense that other schools are trending more for Jemison and Frost. Just my sense, though. So Shon would be a huge get, along with obviously Kiyan and Sadiq. Hard to decipher what's going on with guard targets. Acaden will be tough. I think if Tillery takes an OV to Syracuse, that would be key. I haven't a clue about Jackon's recruitment, and I think Dixon is headed elsewhere...

I really like Dixon, but we don’t hear much about him.

I take it that Abaev would close the door for us on other forwards?
Did I not see him described as a great mead guard on the break?

He falls down a lot on that fade away! Its pretty though. Interesting player, looks like he has the handle/size/ability to be a much more diverse offensive player. Could just be that highlight reel, but lots of times he was settling for difficult jumpers that where not needed when he had an angle and a defender on his heels.

Not recommended shooting style, at least in that one video. Falling backward, not great balance, seems to focus too much on drawing contact.

Results matter though. Kid isn’t considered the best pure shooter by form but one of the top shot makers in his class- to me I’ll take that and run with it.

I hear what you're saying, but good form yields consistent results. Bad form leads to a lot of missed shots as the quality of the players defending you increases. Judah was always looking for contact and his shooting percentage was affected by that.

Shon does much more than just score though too. When we are talking about a specialist or a guy whose role is limited I would worry more but that’s not this kid at all. Judah seemed to listen to his own advice more than anyone else’s. Most kids are likely to be willing to improve and this kid seems like a great kid to go with a really good hooper.

Also Shon has been putting numbers up against top competition too so it’s not like he’s doing it at Glens Falls. I’m not dismissing the form discussion just saying I don’t think this at all makes him less than the best option we are pursuing at the 3.

Abaev was one of the most efficient scorers in his AAU circuit. It’s the last thing we should be concerned about.
To my eyes, he is a guy who is destined to be all conference, and someone who has a good chance to play in the NBA.

Looks like a good athlete who has a high IQ and really knows how to play. Really good at getting his shot off. Looks like he can handle the ball, drive to the basket, finish through contact, shoot, and also looks like a terrific passer.

That said, I am not sure if he is willing to work hard for rebounds or consistently play hard on defense. I have only seen a few clips of him, mostly scoring.

If he can do threse other things, he is going to be a really special player.

Sorry I didn't buttonhole the kid about his recruitment. In fact, I had no idea who he was until i saw his photo in the recruiting thread a day later and thought, HS, that's the kid we saw at the game. Looked like he was having a good time FWIW.
I don’t think that was the intended response to the prompt. Let me give you a hint:
Well…. She (fill in the blank)?

As I watch more video of him in games, he seems more of a big guard than a small forward to me. He's pretty ball dominant. He's kind of like a poor man's Manu Ginobili. And if that's his upside, that's great.
