Are we at a max for on staff coaches? If we need to get rid of a coach to bring in a defensive minded assistant coach, who is the least valuable on staff that we can afford to let go?
NCAA rules allow NCAA Division I basketball teams to have a head coach and six other "countable" coaches. This includes three full-time assistant coaches, a director of basketball operations, two additional assistant coaches, and any graduate assistants. The two additional assistant coaches can engage in coaching activities like skill instruction and game planning, but they cannot recruit off-campus.
We have:
Griff
Engelstad
Straughn
Corasaniti is DOBO
Kline is GM
General Manager does not typically count against coaching limits in NCAA basketball. If their primary role involves coaching or direct supervision of student-athletes in a practice or game setting, they might be counted as a coach. If their role is primarily administrative or focuses on areas like team budget, recruiting, and player personnel, they would likely not count against coaching limits.
We can add up to two "non-recruiting" asst coaches.
