Doesn’t sound from the article I read that we are even interested in this guy

I guess it comes down to whose "pitch" is most compelling, SU's, Duke's, or others.

If it comes down to who’s pitch is better we are a long shot to say the least. Not impossible but the odds are heavily against us.

We can offer 30mpg and 10+ shots a game . Duke most likely can’t say that

One thing I find very strange is not only didn't he start. but he only played 18min/game. By the numbers he was one of they best shooters and rebounders.

We would go Ape if we had a guy like that playing only 18 mins, while losing 10 games on the season.

He only had 32 fouls on the year and at least 3 were technical/flagrant fouls...my question is does he guard the ball? Defensive can be the only reason for the lack of minutes.

FWIW, I think I saw it on Twitter, but there was an Illini fan saying he should go to Syracuse because he plays zero defense and the zone can help mask that

If this kid played the 3 would our rebounding be a problem?
Also is he better than either of our current starting guards or is he just a SF.

He averaged basically the same number of rebounds per game last season as Elijah and played exactly half of the minutes per game that Elijah did. Don't think there'd be a fall off there. Maybe even an improvement.

The post I responded to said the pros and cons of each school were equal and it would come down to the pitch. In that scenario we lose out to Duke and K 90% of the time.

Good question ...
His rebounds per minute were 8.2 as a frosh, 10.0 as a sophomore and 9.5 for his 2-year stay in Champaign.

The zone does not mask bad defenders in some regards it exposes them.

In man to man a coach can put their worse defender on the opponents worse offensive player, but in a zone the offense can choose to attack one person's zone.

Reason people say you can hide someone in a zone is because there should be someone in help position because they are not guarding a man but a zone.

This however leads to wide open shots and rotations that lead to easy shots like layups.

Our zone suffered these consequences this year...

This would be Billy Fuccillo huge, especially if he ends up being eligible for the 20-21 season. He can step right in, and would become a focal point of the offense immediately, with the green light from JB to basically do as he pleases. Very solid numbers, percentage wise, and not too shabby on the boards. This would solve any concerns we have for a couple years about the 3 spot. Perfect stopgap until the other forwards are ready for a bigger role. Under the radar kid similar to Eli, and hopefully he’s another NY guy that was hoping for a Cuse offer. Bras, and/or Woody wouldn’t have to be thrown to the wolves before they’re ready, and we can keep Marek/QG at their natural positions, without the pressure of becoming a threat from deep for us to have a more balanced offense.

I agree. Was more mentioning it because at least that fan thought Griffin is a defensive liability.

The zone don't mask that any more - and he'd be a perfect fit if he can't play defense. I'm starting to get onboard with this kid.

Tell Blackwell to get in touch and explain what a nice move it is from Urbana to Cuse! Or me! I spent a decent portion of my life at that school - I could be lead recruiter!

Only other school on that list that scares me is Miami - especially if playing against his brother is a factor in his decision. Could be either us or Miami in that case. Let’s hope he likes the snow.
