Class of 2018 SG/SF Buddy Boeheim SIGNED WITH SYRACUSE

If the Blacklist ever does a flashback scene to when Donald Ressler was a teen, they could do worse than choosing Buddy to play the part.

I love how no matter who it is they always start out with, "Let's get this out of the way he is Jim Boeheim's son." I mean this isn't Sport Illustrated. If you follow some guy on twitter talking about AAU basketball recruiting I'm assuming you know that. It's like let's just get this out of the way Cole Anthony is Greg Anthony's son.

That take is probably the biggest negative that the Boeheim's have to weigh.

I agree. I also think the fact Boeheim seems pretty laid back off the court but is so intense and demanding on it really creates a strange dynamic. I have a friend that grew up in Syracuse and one of her best friends was Bielein's daughter when he was at Le Moyne. She used to tell me the only other parent in her life that has yelled at her besides her parents was Bielein. She would always say, I really loved the guy he was nice and caring and everything but so intense. It was like nothing I had ever seen. At least to that point in my life. In the footage I've seen I don't think Boeheim is that way so it would be really interesting.

I may have misspoke, I would think that fan scrutiny would be the biggest issue.

I'm not sure I agree with that. He would be a walk on not taking a scholly. I would think he would get a much longer rope than anyone else. Are you thinking fans would say "he wouldn't be playing if he wasn't Boeheim's son". I guess that is possible. Someone correcting me if I'm wrong as it's been a long time but I remember when we offered Rautins that people were saying he didn't belong and was only offered because he was Leo's son. Not a lot of people but it was discussed. Buddy wouldn't take a scholly though so in my mind it's different.

How do you work on your athletic ability? You are either athletic or not.

Lift weights, run, do drills. You can improve your strength, quickness and stamina.

From what I'm hearing, this recruitment (which I don't think you can even call it that for obvious reasons) is a done deal, so much so that JB has told his staff to back offer other highly ranked guards. May be the reason they decided to stop waiting on Ayala and accept Thorpe?

Back offer?

Could the reason for backing off of other highly ranked guards be Elijah Hughes being on the team?

Very well could be, although I've heard Hughes is viewed as a 2/3, while JB sees his son as a 2 who could possibly even develop into a combo 1/2.

If I had to choose recruits based on the probability that Buddy is added to the team, I would go after a PG, SF and a combo PF/C for the 2018 team. If I had my choice of recruits based on those offered, it would be: Carey or Duke, Swider or Wright and Shittu or Jalen Smith. I did not mention Williams or Jones because with Carey/Duke and Buddy, another SG would be overloading the roster with SGs.

This does not take into account any additional offers that the staff may make.

That's a good breakdown. I'd add Ayala as a possibility at PG (along with Carey and Duke) and Bazley at forward. Isn't Williams kind of a 2/3? I could see them adding him to give us more guard/wing depth. I know they're high on Hughes but I think it remains to be seen how good he actually is.

As mentioned in another thread...PG! It's paramount to recruit PGs hard. You can't stop recruiting talent. Thorpe will be gone. Don't know how HW will come along. FH could implode even more and go somewhere else. Battle is likely gone so that's another ballhandler gone. A stud 2018 PG would likely be a big upgrade over anything remaining on the roster.

Top priority of the class of 2018, hands down. Period. End of sentence.

Terrific post, SoBe.

Bazley will be another good possibility and may be more obtainable than a Shittu.

So, regarding Hughes just using the articles I read, it seems like Boeheim had a few chances to sign him early but went after more promising prospects instead. I think that Hughes has impressed Boeheim and Jim did not want a 3rd chance go by to pick Hughes up. I respect the coach's opinion when it comes to potential talent.

Anything could happen with Hughes that could affect his play (injuries, school, personal) but only time will tell how he performs. It just seems that if the coach wanted him so bad that he used a 2017 scholarship to have him play in 2018. He did this first especially when he was looking for a good guard late for 2017. That says a lot.

PG 1st and foremost IMO, I like Carey. I think we are likely to have only Washington and Hughes returning in the backcourt so a starting calibur PG is a must. I also think we are going to need another decent big to develop behind Sidibe.

If I could pick a class out of who we are involved with now and Buddy is a given then I'd go:
Buddy, Carey, Williams, Swider, Bazely and a program big guy with some potential.
