Class of 2017 SG/SF Jordan Tucker (NY / GA) Leaving Duke to Butler

JB went down to Georgia with GMac.
Syracuse Back in the Mix for 2017 Wing Jordan Tucker | Zagsblog

JB leading the charge changed momentum for us. GMac would get partial credit for doing the other work. Make no mistake though our chances went up when JB got on the plane to GA and showed the kid we wanted him. JB a HOFer carries weight.
Anybody else read the first line here and start thinking... "JB went down to Georgia and he was lookin for a recruit to steal. He was in a bind cause he was way behind and he needed to seal the deal. When he came across this young man hittin 3s and stroking it hot. He hopped up on a fold up chair and said 'Boy lemme tell ya what'"

Preach. I'd gladly take Ayala right now, but people need to understand he is not Edelin, Flynn, MCW, or Waiters. He'd be a good 4 year player for us and depending on how he developed, could be a very good ACC guard as a junior or senior. Unless a miracle happens and we somehow get either Duval, Waters, or Ashton-Langford, people better start accepting Howard as starting PG next year.
Well, there are some that very much disagree with you on Ayala's talent level.

Even if we get Ayala and Tucker we could still have a spot for a 5th year pg to solidify things for a year while the young guys develope.

Getting Ayala and Tucker would be huge, but next year hinges on adding a 5th year pg.

IMO if we get Tucker and Ayala we will not be getting a 5th PG. Ayala isn't going to reclass because he is promised to sit the bench. And clearly if we agree or not JB the coach thinks Howard can be a valuable piece. So...I would guess adding Ayala JB would think we would be good.

If we get Tusker and Ayala, and I think we will, I'm pretty sure we are done with this class.
Why wouldn't you add a 5th year pg? Ya have the scholly. It wouldn't block any future recruits. And at worst it's a hedge against freshman not being ready and FH not becoming who JB seems to think he will become.

I didn't say I wouldn't. I would. But Syracuse won't. They aren't asking Ayala to come early and turn around and not play him a lot. Unless Howard leaves, I don't see us adding a 5th year guy.

Typed basically the same thing while you posted this. LOL

I would be absolutely fine with our class being done if we land both Tucker and ayala...i think it would be a good idea to bring in a 5th year guy anyways but like many have said they probably won't and that's ok. A class of bourama, brissett, Washington, ayala and Tucker would be welcomed by all cuse fans basically any year...thats a pretty good haul and helps us restock our program with some 4 year guys who can develop and give us some stability as well as some great scorers who can make huge impacts immediately (Tucker and ayala)

Do you see us adding a grad transfer pg?
Don't think so.

Howard/Washington/Ayala should be average. We don't need that position to be great - as long as they don't hurt us and are good defensively I think that's fine. We'll have enough scoring with Tucker/Tyus/TT.

So this means Howard Washington probably won't get much run?

Battle 35mpg at the 2. Frank 25mpg at the 1. Ayalya 20mpg total (5 at the 2, 15 at the 1) ?

Don't add a 5th year guy unless it is absolutely necessary. Last year was necessary, and we got mixed results.

If we can add freshman talent to the 2017, do it. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel of sanctions.

Agreed. We need a nucleus to build around.

I assume Battle and TT will be gone after next year, with an ouside chance of Tucker.

That lets us slide Ayala into the starting SG in 2018. With Brissett and Moyer on the wings. Howard Washington ready to take the 6th man role and hopefully Quinerly starting at the PG. Sidibie at the C.

If we were a 5th YR Grad transfer PG away from a FF contender this year, I'd say go for it. But we're not and let's keep some kids around for a few years for once

Not to single you out at all but posts like these do Ayala no favors. Sorta reminds me of people throwing around the Flynn comparisons with Kaleb Joseph because he was dunking in a YouTube mix tape.

Edelin was one of the best point guards in the country his year and should've been a McDonalds AA but they didn't want too many Oak Hill guys on the team. Ayala is currently the 102 player in his class on the 24/7 composite.

I've seen Ayala play up close in person and he would be a good program type guard for us. He does a lot of things well. I feel comfortable saying that Frank Howard will be our starting point guard next season if the only guard we add to the mix is Ayala.

Let's just let Ayala be Ayala and develop and grow into his role as a contributor on the team without putting expectations of a great player like Billy Edelin on him.

I know you watched him and I trust your scout, but that composite ranking has to be wrong. King Jerry is bad at math.

Every recruiting site ite has him ranked in the 60's beside ESPN who only lists the top 60 players with the last player being Prentiss Hubb in their Rankings who Ayala is ranked just below on the guard rankings.

I really don't feel comfortable with those pg options next year.

We would have had a losing record this year if it wasn't for our grad transfers, look at what Gonzaga did, im not advocating building your team that way, but adding a piece here and there isn't a bad way to go.

The way I see it: Ayala starts and FH and HW battle for the primary backup role. Whomever doesn't get that will get scraps. I doubt HW redshirts but I guess anything is possible. My hope is HW gets some minutes at FH's expense but based on what JB has been saying, he will have to earn his time (JB seems to like FH).
