Class of 2017 SG/SF Jordan Tucker (NY / GA) Leaving Duke to Butler

Oregon has nike-sponsored state of the art facilities -- no doubt.

But I think you are significantly underestimating the facilities that we have at SU. Our complex is second to none--and that includes Oregon.
I grew up in Portland and Oregon Basketball has very little support and people never talk about it. It's a football school in a small town. The have Nike money no doubt but I think some people might be imagining something more than what it actually is.

Nothing against Oregon because they are a good school, but some of you act like they are Duke and UK every time they talk to one of our targets. If that's the case why aren't they bringing everyone in each year.

Well said. Everyone overreacts when it comes to recruiting. If he wants to come to SU, he'll come. It's as simple as that. Stop stressing over HIS decision.

They sure brought lots of fans to Las Vegas and Phoenix. I'm not certain but I bet that narrative pertains more to when Ernie Kent was coaching. Seems like Altman (with Knight's help) has really rejuvenated the program.

I'm usually in that boat, but this one is different, we really need to land this one.

They need to land him. I don't play for SU. If they really wanted him, they wouldn't have backed off of him, but that's one of the many threads we already have on this topic.

I really don't know why we backed off on him, heard things, no idea if they are true, but that doesn't mean we still can't get him.

I think there fan support has probably gone up since they made the final 4 this year and were a #1 seed last year but in general I would argue it's still a heavy football school and that is still what all the people I know that went there talk about. Altman has done a good job. I would give a lot of credit for that to Mike Mennenga.

You specifically said Facilities. I responded by saying ours is better.
Not sure why you are being so defensive.
History aside, which I think is being a bit shallow thinking the kids just want cool new and flashy things and not care about a programs history.
But how can you discount the Melo Center? Its state of the art. We have gotten some pretty dang good recruits since we have built it.

I'm not being defensive. Merely being being honest and open-minded without the Orange goggles on. Of course it is shallow but it is true. Some kids want glitz, facilities, great housing digs. That's nothing earth shattering, lol.

I haven't discounted the Melo Center if you read any other posts. It is state of the art but it does not stand alone, imo. Kentucky, Indiana, and Oregon (their WHOLE facilites available for any athlete) are on par with Syracuse.

All I'm saying is to discount Oregon as a worthy adversary for Tucker or Ayala would be wrong, imo. Momentum is a powerful thing. Two E8's in a row and this year they did it without their starting C. Knight can send Altman and co. on his plane whenever and already made an in home visit to Ayala. Until they commit anything is possible. Hopefully we won't have to discuss this stuff too much longer re: Tucker/Ayala.

I know that people are talking about it but I just can't imagine Knox following through and going with Porter Jr. to Mizzou. Porter Jr will be the focal point of the offense and what everyone will be talking about and you will be the 2nd best player on your team at your position. He could still be fine but it could also cost him.

While I think Knox will ultimately pick UNC, the appeal with Mizzou is similar to the Fab Five at Michigan. Porter and Knox would be treated like gods. And how many teams would be able to defend both of them? Position shouldn't be a concern. They would be the starting forwards.

Either way, I don't think Knox winds up at Duke, so what to make of these Tucker rumors?

Dude, don't be "it's they/them not we/us...you're not on the team" guy. This is a Syracuse sports forum, many here are alums &/or STHs. SU is OUR program.

Edit: Sorry if this comes off as harsh, it's not a direct shot at you, I just can't stand this response to referring to your team as "we". To each their own.

This drives me nuts as well.

I don't like our chances if Duke has reengaged. If we had been on the kid consistently from the beginning it would have been different but we have just gotten back involved recently and will be in a tough spot. I hope I'm wrong. I haven't followed the Knox recruitment that closely so I really can't make a statement regarding UNC and Duke. I just find it hard to believe he goes to Mizzou. I really hope he goes to Duke and we get Tucker.

Knox could go to Duke and Tucker could still go to GTech. Or Knox could go to UNC/Mizzou and Tucker could still go to Cuse. You never know.

I don't want Knox in the ACC, period...and neither should you. You could make the argument that he's a better prospect than Porter. Porter was raised to play basketball. Knox was raised to play football and only became serious about basketball within the last few years, yet he's right behind Porter in the rankings.

People are saying the fact that we backed off might hurt our chances, Duke has never really been in on him, are they really just going to come in out of nowhere and steal him?

If I remember correctly, even when we were all in on him previously, his "dream school" was Duke.

We play Duke 1 time. Maybe twice tops. We need Tucker. If doing that means Knox is on Duke then ok. We have no SF on our roster next year and no really good backup option. It's like Trae Young going to UK. I don't want Trae Young on UK but if he committed there we would have Green. He committed to Oklahoma and we ended up getting screwed. The same thing could happen. I don't want it to and I still like our chances with him but if given the choice between going head to head versus UK or Duke and not I choose the second one.

True, but I don't think a recruit ever picked a school based on locker rooms.
That's not the way you look at something like this topic of discussion. It's pieces to the puzzle that paint a full picture that helps people decide based on a feel!

This is huge two years of NIT would be horrible for our program. I think with Tucker and Ayala we should expect the tournament
