Class of 2017 SG/SF Jordan Tucker (NY / GA) Leaving Duke to Butler

Dude, don't be "it's they/them not we/us...you're not on the team" guy. This is a Syracuse sports forum, many here are alums &/or STHs. SU is OUR program.

Edit: Sorry if this comes off as harsh, it's not a direct shot at you, I just can't stand this response to referring to your team as "we". To each their own.

If you feel that way, you feel that way. I'm an alumnus as well. I don't refer to them as we. That's MY personal preference. Same with professional teams too.

That's not the way you look at something like this topic of discussion. It's pieces to the puzzle that paint a full picture that helps people decide based on a feel!

Its a very small puzzle piece, unless your priorities are really out of whack,

I've always felt that as long as fans present an atmosphere that gives their team a home court/field advantage, then they are a part of that team.

Oregon 12k capacity nicer and newer yes but...
Syracuse 35k capacity with great history since 1980.

Melo center is a state of the art 19 million dollar basketball facility. Not many colleges can claim something like this.

Oregon has pumped a lot of money into the football program but their basketball program is still light years behind Syracuse imo.

A lot of colleges have gone that route since the Melo center opened. 10 years ago were probably top 5 in practice facilities, not sure we're top 20 at this point. When VCU is pumping 20+ mil in a practice facility it's telling how fast things are changing and how quickly that something that was a game changer for us is now nothing different than what a team like West Virginia or Nebraska has.

Agree and disagree. I root for the Red sox, Giants, Celtics and bruins. I never use the word us or we. I graduated from Syracuse. I am part of the university. And will be till the day that I die. If I use the word we or us, I wouldn't feel one bit bad about it. I don't know that I do, but if I do, I'll live with it.

Guys need to settle down we had an NIT year things didn't pan out but this we need tucker or die crap is getting silly.

The panic has little to do with the NIT, if we had 2 top 25 guys coming in I don't think many would care. The panic is the NIT mixed in with the returning roster and losing our 3 best players without competent replacements.

And a recruiting strategy that will only exacerbate the problem and a head coach who is 72 years old

I don't think anyone is to the point of get Tucker or die...but if you seriously think that Tucker isn't a MUST get for us and that we as passionate fans of the program are being silly to think he is a must get then I'm not sure if you've been following cuse basketball lately. Given our roster and what is actually available out there and the position we are in, we most certainly need to land Tucker as well as ayala to be somewhat formidable this year. Yes sanctions have hurt us and losing guys to the draft early has hurt but we have done a horrible job at creating any depth at certain positions for the years to come (until this class I like who we have for potential 4 year program guys) but it's getting pretty late in the game to be filling specific needs for our team especially when there was quite a few good options out there that have already committed. Yes I know we pulled a rabbit out of our hat last year with bringing in gillon/white/Thompson but it sure would be nice not having to worry about doing that at the last hour each year...and thank God we did get those guys because without them last year would have been very hard to watch and we still didn't make the tourney with them. I guess if u enjoy watching cuse lose a crap ton and not make the tourney then absolutely we have nothing to worry about and we are in great shape as our roster sits right now!

My dad was a Giants and NFL fan. And then so was I.
I started rooting for the Giants because of Fran Tarkenton.

And I agree with many posters... Tucker would be a GIANT get, but not anything close to do OR die.

Let me ask you a question: how will next season unfold if we DON'T land Tucker? Where is the offense going to come from? Outside shooting?

I honestly think that some posters aren't seeing the forest through the trees here.

Unfortunately you are right. Outside of Battle, and maybe TT(who at this point we have to assume, still cannot play defense) we do not have anyone to score the ball consistently, so I think Tucker is pretty close to a must get for us. The bad part is that, he will be asked to score a lot, similar to what White did last year. By no means, am I saying he is a one a done, but if he is asked to be the lead scorer with Battle, he sure is going to stand out!

Grrrrr...the NBA just needs to change the rules back and let high school kids in! One and done stuff is stupid!

RF there is an element here too though, where posters may have a limited view on player's abilities and have unnecessarily pigeon holed them on that. There was a ton of speculation last season that Battle would struggle from the outside and he shot the ball fine from the perimeter. How much has Moyer's shooting improved during his redshirt year? Brissett has a nice shot and has shown he can at least hit open 3's. It's speculation both ways (positive or negative) until we see it in front of us. If we don't land Tucker we all agree that it sucks. However, your stance is to believe that nobody else will hit perimeter shots. My stance is to wait and see some results from players before I assume they can't hit outside shots.

Thing is if we don't get Tucker because he signs with Tech and other ACC schools add guys, we are going to have one of the worst rosters in the conference next year.

I agree - but adding Tucker who is what 40th in the class improves us how much? High school rankings after the Top 10 are a crap shoot. I hope we get him, we clearly need him, but I don't think he moves us up from or off the bubble.

I don't disagree. The rest of the ACC is taking us to the woodshed when it comes to recruiting. The FSU/Miami's/Wake Forest's/Georgia Techs are all going after 5* talent now and we are here trying to get whoever is left over.

Its more about his position and skill set matching up with a giant hole in our roster than it is about his rank. We need a starting caliber SF who is a scoring threat and he is.

Agree totally on filling a need - I'll wait to see if he is a scoring threat or not. Like all of us I certainly hope he fills that need, but for every Battle & Malachi there is a Paul Harris.
