Syracuse basketball secures commitment from top portal guard

Nate Kingz comes to Syracuse from Oregon State.

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Nate Kingz has committed to play for Syracuse University’s basketball team next season, he announced on Instagram.

Kingz, a 6-foot-5 guard from Oregon State, is ranked as the 25th best player in the transfer portal by Bart Torvik’s website. Evan Miyakawa rates him the 49th best player in the portal.

Kingz averaged 11.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game for a 20-12 Oregon State team. The Beavers played in the Crown postseason tournament, but Kingz, who was already in the portal, did not play in that game.

Former SU star Stephen Thompson is an assistant coach at Oregon State. Like Thompson, Kingz is left-handed.

Kingz visited the SU campus Tuesday and Wednesday, then committed to the Orange.
