Siena Basketball: GMAC / Blackwell / AO

Siena plays at Indiana tomorrow night.
Indiana is favored by 23.5.
Game is on the Big Ten Network at 6pm.

That's super exciting for them! They're playing well, you have to say they have a puncher's chance.

This is true, the transfer rules really hurt the bottom of D1, but I think that makes Gerry's job more impressive and more important.

Siena was one of those bottom teams who gave up every half decent player to someone above them a couple years ago. Gerry pulled them out of that pit and has them on a different level. That is not easy to do, and not being a feeder program to others in your league/on your level means everything.

Gerry understands his pitch at Siena. He can point to his time on the bench at SU, and look at all the excellent shooters he coached. Now, he takes a team from 4 wins to 14 and probably now more than 20 this year.

His pitch is "come let me coach you up for a couple years, and I'll help you move up to the next level." He understands where his school is in the food chain, and he seems to really get the personal motivation part with these kids.

When I would hear his radio segments, when he was an assistant, wow he was just terrible. I never thought he would be enough of a salesman to become a head coach. But he's doing great so far.

Well, that escalated quickly.

McNamaras dudes looked like they've never seen a defense before.

That said, you can at least tell what they are trying to do on O. They at least have a plan.

Agree. Not looking good for the fighting Gmacs unfortunately.

He needs a couple, 3, 4 dudes. Indiana is better at each individual position, by a long ways.

Not much to say here besides the Siena players do seem more well coached than the SU players. Not outrageously so, just better.

I get the whole overmatched at every position, better athletes thing. But I just watched the final 3:45 of the first half and Siena didn’t score 1 point! They missed 4 point blank layups and 3 three pointers (2 of them airballs). I mean geez even for lower level D1 players that is embarrassing. gmac could only shake is head

Siena has consistently struggled to score this season. Not sure why anyone should be surprised that's happening in this game.

Well, they won 9 of their first 11, and they bitch-slapped Canisius and Niagara a week ago by around 20-30 points each. You have to score to win by 30.

They aren't winning because they have a potent or particularly efficient offense. That's all I was saying.

I’m sure everyone will blame the coach for that right?

Siena down 5 at the half. Iona is 8/20 from three and one kid is 4/7 including his first 3 shots. See what adjustments that Gerry makes at halftime.

I'm thinking how much better Cuse would be with Gavin Doty.

Edit: except maybe he wouldn't be as good under our current coaching staff. :(

I suspect Doty doesn't always shoot 3s with the confidence he is capable of.
