It has been discussed at various times that Gerry love him some Gerry, and that it perhaps has led him to be less close to some in the AD at times. We just had a board insider (I forgot who) pretty much claim GMac is a jerk and all about Gerry about a week ago. Is this well known?
If Siena makes finals of mac I think a done deal.
Siena is 176th in ken pom, what's not to like?LOL What

(South Florida is ahead of SU).
This whole black and white crap is an excuse. We are talking about Syracuse university not liberty or some southern racist school. Everyone needs to stop looking at black and white and hire the best coach possible.Yeah, except….
Choosing the much younger, less experienced white guy,
Over the far more experienced black guy, who also had experience outside the Syracuse program,
and who had the title of AHC -
would’ve been a TURRIBLE look.
Red is objectively a better recruiter than Gerry.
GMac whiffed on the overwhelming majority of high profile croots he was the lead on.
Gerry’s “success” at Siena means nearly nothing.
He seems to be a better gameday coach, but that’s only because Red is the worst at that.
Bottom line: we should have NEVER gone with a continuity hire from JAB’s decayed coaching tree,
because the absolute last thing that needed to be done in that instance was ‘continue’ anything or anyone who had been a part of the prior decade of decline.

It must be very comforting to be so naive.
Bless your heart.
And as I posted up thread, the best coach possible was NEITHER of them.
Syracuse is Sofa King Stoopid to artificially constrain the pool of coaching candidates to:
Once played and/or coached at Cuse under JAB.
I agree with your last point 144%.
As I have posted numerous times prior:
Full National search
Best head coach possible.
Pay that man his money.
Agree. Bad loss. Tough game for them - Doty and Shoats were off today. Shoats, their point guard was 1-9 from the field , with no assists and 3 turnovers in his 37 minutes. Siena got killed on the boards. (37-24) Foul fest with 57 free throws between the 2 teams.Gonna be real tough for them to get one of the two byes now.

Agreed, I think I would like to see more success from him, and I’ll say the same about Hodgson.Today’s game is why the consideration of GMac is as far as I would go but going into anything beyond consideration( like preference) is a stretch. Being able to handle success and expectations is just as important if not much harder than putting a team on the right path and improving.
I like the intensity and the view of a team that plays hard and has real leadership. Losses like this show the learning curve is still ongoing and we don’t want to be part of the learning curve we want to be the final ascension.
How much he can grow and get more out of the team and himself this year is a big question and one that needs to matter a great deal as it pertains to his chances if he is given a look.
Agreed, I think I would like too see more success from him, and I’ll say the same about Hodgson.
I like Skinn, but his offense worries me. They wear people down, but at some point you need to score by design.
Back to GMAC. I’d like to see him get the Penn St gig, exhibit some success and potentially be a candidate down the road. We can wiggle him free from PSU if need be.
I think we’re headed in a direction where we’re going to be looking for a guy who can win right away, right the ship and reputation, and if he leaves, he leaves.
In a perfect world, GMAC would replace him and have a long run - we’ve never been the “get a new guy every 3 years” kinda school, nor should we aspire to be.
I would not want to see GMAC go to ND next- there are only 2 outcomes there. He either fails, and is not a future candidate for us, or he succeeds - and I don’t think we can lure him back if that happens.
Bottom line, I think he can coach, but I think we need more proof.
That they spend in footballI’m not confident we could lure any successful head coach from Penn State. I get they don’t care about basketball, but they still have way way more money than we do.

My son, an Siena alum, said Coyle’s been a disappointment having been recruited locally as a 3 point shooting phenom. He said it was known he had some defensive deficiencies but that his offensive prowess would more than offset it. He had an excellent sophomore year last year (.393 from 3) but has really struggled shooting this year (.300 this year). The entire team is only averaging .310 this year and it’s hurting them. GMac will have to recruit more 3 point shooters.I'm surprised that their 6-7 forward, Brendan Coyle, isn't doing a bit better for them. He looks like a good player for that league. His form on the three is pretty nice, too.
