Significant Change Is Coming

You can have Kyle, but you have to take Red back for another year too.

After Coach P, football has had 5 coaches over a 20 year span.
The net result is we're still hoping that the program will turn into an upper level program in a relative weak conference. TBD.

When the BB program is turned over, what are the REASONABLE expectations going forward. If it struggles initially, how much time
will the fan base give it? What will be written into the contract, and what resources ($$) are out there in this new world of NIL and the portal? Lots of questions, no guarantees.

Uva is the poster child for how to do it and that it is possible. They had an interim for a year, turned the whole roster over, and are playing very well this year. It just takes a really good coach to lead the team and they found one. Hoping and praying we can do the same. We need to get back to being a meaningful impactful program.

Me personally, if it's a proven head coach at a mid-major, I'd give him 2 years of mediocrity at worse (if the proven head coach comes in and only wins 5-10 game in the 1st year he's got to go, and 1000% would have to go if that was in year 2) before him having to right the ship by year 3. Which is basically what every legitimate college is doing.

I couldn't care less what Melo thinks about the change or if any player stays including Kiyan. This Syracuse program needed a change the last five years of the JB era. To have JW hire a JB disciple that doesn't know any other system was a huge mistake and that is what has led to where the program is today. Get outside of this crazy "Syracuse Family Tree" crap and hire a high end coach and staff.

Where do you think a bunch of our NIL money came from?

Kiyan leaving would be really bad optics, but yeah I think a fresh start for everyone would be most likely

I don't care who stays or leaves.

The main thing is to hire an actual Head Coach, one with a system that will get the most out of the team offensively. We need real leadership and somebody that will come in and completely change whatever it is we do now.

Also, I would like to retain Kiyan for the reasons discussed above. Unless he wants to leave, there's no reason we should not want him back and under better leadership.

Kyle is out of eligibility.

Kingz almost certainly has another year of eligibility, just not officially yet.

I find it both infuriating and embarrassing the things being said on this forum about Melo and Kiyan. The “fans” act like a bunch of hillbillies. Do you realize Kiyan could have chosen USC? Honestly, I was shocked when he chose Syracuse. Not sure I would have wanted my kid to come here but of course I was thrilled that he did. This is the thanks he gets. He has so much potential like his teammates but they need some decent coaching.

Kiyan has a lot of work to do but Melo is no dummy, he knows it. An unattached no dog in the fight coach who's going to work the kid hard and make him earn it would be the best thing for Kiyan.

You have absolutely no proof of how much money the Anthony's have given to NIL. They have given to the Melo center obviously but other then that there has been no public info on NIL donations from the Anthony's.

Kiyan is a freshman and shouldn't really be getting the run he's getting based on the numbers, but he's a superstar booster's kid. He's the worst regular player on the roster and the last thing a declining Syracuse program needs is to do is give him MORE run to keep him and his dad happy because his dad is a superstar alum/booster and not because he's the best player on the team.

One thing that's kind of important to point out - Kiyan is going to get more NIL money, more endorsement money, here in Syracuse than we would is Los Angeles. Big fish, small pond, legacy dad. None of that applies in LA.

I didn't say any numbers. But you would be short-sighted, and maybe foolish, if you think Melo wouldn't do what he could to make sure his son had a well-constructed team around him to improve his chances of making the league.

It’s realistic to expect significant turnover after this season. A full staff change almost guarantees roster movement, and there will likely be a few departures that catch people off guard.

Donnie could transfer or at least explore the draft. It wouldn’t be shocking to see one of the freshmen—Kiyan or Sadiq—leave, though probably not both. You could also see someone like Betsey or Fennell move on due to a combination of NIL money and playing-time clarity.

Betsey, in particular, has been genuinely good all season and is good enough to draw real interest elsewhere. None of this is meant to be alarmist; it’s simply what happens when a program resets.

Losing Kiyan would be a bad look optically, especially with the family frustration being visible, but on the floor he’s more of a specialized scorer than a complete impact player. Crafty, yes. Transformative, no.

Short-term, it may feel like the program is unraveling. That reaction will be loud and emotional, but it doesn’t mean it’s wrong to clean house. Sometimes things have to bottom out before they reset properly.

If Syracuse is willing to spend on a real staff, modern player development, and competitive NIL like we dished out for this current roster, there’s no reason this can’t turn quickly. The brand still matters. The resources are there if they’re actually used. Make the right hire, align the money, and accept a brief uncomfortable transition, and this can absolutely set up a legitimate resurgence over the next few years.

The sky might look like it’s falling for a bit, but that doesn’t mean the foundation can’t be rebuilt stronger than it’s been in a long time.
So looks like it was Betsy's dad bitching about the coaching.

It certainly not embarrassing to be frustrated with Kiyan. He plays with a entitled air about him. Every kid on this team could have chosen to go somewhere else. True of just about anyone we have had play for us for the last 50 years. If he wants to leave after this year, we will survive. Anthony is shooting 41% from the field. 60% from the free throw line and 24% from 3.
