Significant Change Is Coming

It certainly not embarrassing to be frustrated with Kiyan. He plays with a entitled air about him. Every kid on this team could have chosen to go somewhere else. True of just about anyone we have had play for us for the last 50 years. If he wants to leave after this year, we will survive. Anthony is shooting 41% from the field. 60% from the free throw line and 24% from 3.
Yes, that's exactly how he comes across to me as a fan. I think he's got a massive blind spot where he thinks he's a lot better than he is. Don't get me wrong though, I still like him on the team (dad) and think he will get better. However, it kills me on offense where he comes in and wants the ball immediately, then he sits there looking for an opportunity to score while not moving the ball any and wasting 5-7 seconds off the clock. When he doesn't see the opportunity, he backs things out with a useless pass to someone outside the 3pt line who then looks to start the offense again. Then Kiyan moves a little and asks for the ball again so he can repeat. I'd love to see him look for other guys. Use his drive not just to score but to move the ball around. He can be a big black hole.

"Entitled air" is perfect description.

That bullcrap with him jogging back on defense and giving up in a tight game against VPI while his teammate got folded up trying to defend a layup was peak entitlement. Fortunately Red saw it and pulled his ass right after that and he didn't get back into until 6 seconds left.

He's the worst regular player on the roster and the last thing a declining Syracuse program needs is to do is give him MORE run to keep him
🤣 the worst player on the roster!? You’re gonna let the biggest name in Syracuse basketball history take his kid out of our program because he didn’t have a great freshman year on team that underperformed in general. Stick to flyfishing.

Kiyan is a Frosh (and he's not his father)... Hope he stays under the new HC and the new HC gets his buy-in and Melo's... but if not, oh well.

Getting the right coach is paramount... keeping young players is secondary.

I didn't say I wanted him to leave. Just that I won't give it a second thought if any player on this team leaves. I also want a coach we can build with.

Kiyan is a freshman and shouldn't really be getting the run he's getting based on the numbers, but he's a superstar booster's kid. He's the worst regular player on the roster and the last thing a declining Syracuse program needs is to do is give him MORE run to keep him and his dad happy because his dad is a superstar alum/booster and not because he's the best player on the team.

This matches the “eye test”.

Will Kyle is our best player.
Bummed it’s his final year.

Donnie, Kingz and Betsey are all good players.
Would welcome them all back if the new coaching staff wanted them.

Everybody else…. meh at best.

Nait is a disappointment.
JJ is exactly who he is, only worse.

Looks like Bobby Hurley will be available. 😜

Just read an Athletic article where he basically admitted that the team doesn’t listen to him anymore. I think that’s exactly what is going on with Red. To the players, he sounds like Charlie Brown’s teacher.

My 2 cents regarding Kiyan... don't some of you forget how you were comparing him to Moten and other elite Syracuse players from the past. This board too often swings one direction to the other waaaay too quickly. I think Kiyan can be a VERY good player for us moving forward (provided that he gets coached this summer to work on the things that will best help the team). He just isn't there yet.

One red flag to me was how he took over the celebration in the locker room after I believe it was the Tennessee game. At the time, it was fun to see guys feeling good, particularly after the Vegas trip. However, for me, he just comes across way over confident. He needs to be humbled, then work to build himself up and improve.

There is someone else on the team who is a starter and he is not very good. Is he a "superstar booster's kid", too?! Give me a break.

I for one, am just happy Calvin is starting his SU career around a winning culture with organization and effort.

Ummmm

Uva is the poster child for how to do it and that it is possible. They had an interim for a year, turned the whole roster over, and are playing very well this year. It just takes a really good coach to lead the team and they found one. Hoping and praying we can do the same. We need to get back to being a meaningful impactful program.
Or Vanderbilt. After 8 years, 110-150, two NIT bids, hired Mark Byington from JMU, who flipped entire roster thru portal minus one, went 20-13 w/NCAA bid This year, added 10 new players again thru portal and HS recruits, and this year is 16-3, #15 in poll. A turnaround with the right coach can happen quickly

Exactly. And that was after playing 3 teams ranked 331, 347, and 355 in the NET. Luckily there was also a good amount of others who kept saying “pump the brakes” on those comparisons. We knew and saw what was eventually coming.

you can only hear level five so many times without it changing to wonk woh wonk wonk woh

No one will be sad or think the program is unraveling if almost everyone leaves. It's expected. People will be excited for a new chapter.
Yes. It’s like pro team fans can accept a few seasons of tank rather than year after year of mushy middle finishes that don’t advance overall team quality. SU has managed to tank despite trying not to thinking the fan base would be put off by what exactly ? Sucking with a non-SU coach rather than with one ?

Saying you dismiss something doesn’t automatically dismiss it. This guy think he’s a god or something?
I’m not sure what is the right or wrong move on timing to make a move if deemed necessary to make a move. The narrative the last several days should be about Red coaching and substitution strategies to games are leading to losses and it’s been everything else but that. That’s honestly my biggest criticism of Red and it’s critical to get this right to win games. You can look at positives of how far this program has come from a modernization perspective, but it’s time for the coach to lock in and be an enabler and not a subtractor to victory.

Yeah . I don’t know either. This guy just irked me how he “dismissed” things and then gave no supporting evidence as to why we should believe him., just accept his all powerful dismissal

I find it both infuriating and embarrassing the things being said on this forum about Melo and Kiyan. The “fans” act like a bunch of hillbillies. Do you realize Kiyan could have chosen USC? Honestly, I was shocked when he chose Syracuse. Not sure I would have wanted my kid to come here but of course I was thrilled that he did. This is the thanks he gets. He has so much potential like his teammates but they need some decent coaching.

If the reason why we didn’t fire Red after last season was Kiyan coming here (which a few posters alluded to last year) - I wish he’d chosen USC. And honestly for his development - I wish he’d chosen virtually any other program in college.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s not here next year, this is turning out to be a bad situation for all parties. I won’t be disappointed - it’s probably the right decision for him.
