So do we get anyone back for Wake Forest?

People are getting a little carried away with just how accurate AJ was. He threw as many bad balls as good ones. His wr's dropped a couple but also bailed him out a few times.

Isn't bailing out the QB part of the WR job description?

Love the passion of this board, but Hunt threw beautiful balls to West vs Md, Estime vs ND and Broyld vs Nova. He had some terrible short throws too, but to completely crap on the kid's performance this year is awful. We don't need to put Hunt down while congratulating Long.

If Long was better than Hunt in August, he would have been the starter. This staff doesn't have the luxury to play favorites- they need to play the best players.

Are you for real? What a bunch of bs. Bailed him out means the receiver made a great catch on a poorly thrown ball. Catches that would normally go incomplete.

guys bailed hunt out occasionally to. Fleming's catch on the sideline yesterday was spectacular. (But Remember ishmals spectacular catch last weekend for hunt?)

Anyhow, you're making this about Hunt vs AJ and it's not. AJ threw a lot of bad passes yesterday. Likewise he threw some beauties. People are acting like all 27 of his passes were on the money. They weren't.

I don't recall anyone claiming AJ was perfect. I know I am happy that more of his passes were catchable than Hunt's passes, and I like TH. To me this is not AJL v. TL, this is about Syracuse winning games.

The thread was never about dumping on Hunt until someone assumed that for AJ to have been good, Hunt must have been crap. I am thankful to Hunt for doing as well as he did and could. I think AJ offers more of what we need and fits out players' skill sets better and hunt is out for a while, so let's move on.

really have to rewatch the game but it didnt feel like he was wild at all. he threw a couple on the run that he dropped in and Wilson threw some nice balls too.

Anyone who read my posts yesterday knows I was happy with AJs performance. I just think some of the accuracy enthusiasm needs to be tempered a bit. You'll see it when you rewatch it.

I think we're likely going to see some real rough patches for Long in upcoming games. It's still so early for him. As long as we can beat Wake and NC State, sets up a fun remaining November needing 2 of 3.

I rewatched it and have no idea what you're talking about. The kid was spot on. The spectacular catch you referred to earlier(Fleming) was a big time throw. He extends plays with his feet in the pass game rather than just taking off and throws very accurately on the run. So...what are you talking about?

I never implied that for AJ to good Hunt was crap. I was just stating things based on stats and observations.

I think Hunt was the QB we needed and the best on the roster last year with the most to offer. I think he is still a serviceable QB, I am just not certain with his regression that he is the best on the roster any longer. Compared to last year he looks worse.

I think the young guys have more upside and a higher ceiling. Fact remains he will have a tougher competition for starting/playing time.

We played more WRs, even with guys hurt than most top teams play. Not sure why you're being argumentative with this, other than you like being argumentative.

I'm not being argumentative. I'm just telling you the we didn't play a lot of receivers. 3 guys played the majority of snaps. It's why we didn't see guys running on and off all day. Just because Funder took a few snaps and was a non factor or Avant got a little run mostly late, doesn't mean we played too many. We've played 5-6 receivers for years, don't know how you can act like we used to many. Who played that shouldn't have? Heck, Broyld, Estime, Kobena and then Lewis are hurt. What are you going to do when they all come back and we play 7 again?

I agree with you, the substitutions were way down for receivers and backs. The question I have, was it by design (Lester) or was it because of the lack of available receivers?

When they come back, will we see a shorter rotation of receivers and backs or will we be in a bucket line situation again?

I was much happier seeing less substitutions and the better players available on the field. Especially Gulley, AAM, West and Ish.

Strike AAM off that list for me; PTG is our best "power back" imo, play Erv as the change of pace speed back. Those 2 rbs for 90% of the snaps...

AAM has been solid this season. He is averaging 6 ypc and does a good job at keeping his legs moving after contact.

Gulley is not a power back, AAM is. Running Gulley and Erv down a defenses throat will get him killed, running AAM at a defense softens them up as he runs over people.

Not sure there is much of a change of pace from Gulley to Erv wither.

Just my opinion.

Don't think we'll know till they are all healthy. Avant didn't play till after Lewis was hurt. So we basically played 4 receivers. West, Fleming, Ish and Lewis/Avant with Funder getting a few bones?

Where was Cornelius? Was he hurt too.

Agree, AAM has been very effective and played well. I'd stay with Gulley and AAM.

People get so caught up with the expectation that a RB should be able to outrun everybody and when they don't, they aren't very good. AAM has been very good this year and a lot faster than I expected him to be on certain runs. He had a great 1st down run yesterday splitting a couple defenders and then knocking the out of the guy standing in the way of a 1st down. Last game he had a run out wide (no.. not that one, lol) and I couldn't believe how quick he looked getting around the corner and gaining 8-10 yards. He's an important part of the offense right now.

Agreed. We need to run him a bit more early.

I also think he had a few handoffs where the RB was going to be swallowed so he should have kept.

I worry about keeping him healthy.

Could these 2 statements be related? As in, the coaching staff advised him to limit his own carries, so as to not get his <170-lb. body punished.

I'm still 50/50 on that sideline throw. I think it was as much an accident as it was a great throw. He threw a rope no doubt but fact is the catch was unbelievable.

I was happy about his play yesterday and he DID make some great throws, but I thought for every accurate throw he threw an inaccurate one. I'll go back and pick out every one if you want me to.

Maybe, but I think a few he could have kept were before Wilson took that hit. Depending on his availability next week, yeah you have to keep Long healthy.

I hear you, PTG shouldn't be a power back, but that's how he runs... He gets most of his yards on grit and determination; then occasionally breaks a long one up the gut... Erv clearly has the speed to turn the corner that Gulley does not...

Gulley IMO is better between the tackles but is not a power runner. When he runs off tackle or around the corner he hesitates too much, tries to jitterbug too much and doesn't use his speed. He is faster that he thinks he is.

Erv was a steal in recruiting. Imagine him with 15-20 more lbs on him with a bit more speed and his quickness after 1 full year in the S&C program.

Gonna be fun to watch next year.
