Exactly. How many times was Hunt bailed out?
not many because the receiver had not chance to come within 5 yards of some of his throws.

People are getting a little carried away with just how accurate AJ was. He threw as many bad balls as good ones. His wr's dropped a couple but also bailed him out a few times.
Are you for real? What a bunch of bs. Bailed him out means the receiver made a great catch on a poorly thrown ball. Catches that would normally go incomplete.
guys bailed hunt out occasionally to. Fleming's catch on the sideline yesterday was spectacular. (But Remember ishmals spectacular catch last weekend for hunt?)
Anyhow, you're making this about Hunt vs AJ and it's not. AJ threw a lot of bad passes yesterday. Likewise he threw some beauties. People are acting like all 27 of his passes were on the money. They weren't.
Love the passion of this board, but Hunt threw beautiful balls to West vs Md, Estime vs ND and Broyld vs Nova. He had some terrible short throws too, but to completely crap on the kid's performance this year is awful. We don't need to put Hunt down while congratulating Long.
If Long was better than Hunt in August, he would have been the starter. This staff doesn't have the luxury to play favorites- they need to play the best players.
really have to rewatch the game but it didnt feel like he was wild at all. he threw a couple on the run that he dropped in and Wilson threw some nice balls too.

I rewatched it and have no idea what you're talking about. The kid was spot on. The spectacular catch you referred to earlier(Fleming) was a big time throw. He extends plays with his feet in the pass game rather than just taking off and throws very accurately on the run. So...what are you talking about?Anyone who read my posts yesterday knows I was happy with AJs performance. I just think some of the accuracy enthusiasm needs to tempered a bit. Avant being back and able to play is going to be big.
He is a RS Freshman, correct?
Yep. Impressed by how he bowled people over after the catch.
The thread was never about dumping on Hunt until someone assumed that for AJ to have been good, Hunt must have been crap. I am thankful to Hunt for doing as well as he did and could. I think AJ offers more of what we need and fits out players' skill sets better and hunt is out for a while, so let's move on.

I'm not being argumentative. I'm just telling you the we didn't play a lot of receivers. 3 guys played the majority of snaps. It's why we didn't see guys running on and off all day. Just because Funder took a few snaps and was a non factor or Avant got a little run mostly late, doesn't mean we played too many. We've played 5-6 receivers for years, don't know how you can act like we used to many. Who played that shouldn't have? Heck, Broyld, Estime, Kobena and then Lewis are hurt. What are you going to do when they all come back and we play 7 again?
I was much happier seeing less substitutions and the better players available on the field. Especially Gulley, AAM, West and Ish.
AAM has been solid this season. He is averaging 6 ypc and does a good job at keeping his legs moving after contact.Strike AAM off that list for me; PTG is our best "power back" imo, play Erv as the change of pace speed back. Those 2 rbs for 90% of the snaps...

CuseOnly said:I agree with you, the substitutions were way down for receivers and backs. The question I have, was it by design (Lester) or was it because of the lack of available receivers? When they come back, will we see a shorter rotation of receivers and backs or will we be in a bucket line situation again? People get so caught up with the expectation that a RB should be able to outrun everybody and when they don't, they aren't very good. AAM has been very good this year and a lot faster than I expected him to be on certain runs. He had a great 1st down run yesterday splitting a couple defenders and then knocking the out of the guy standing in the way of a 1st down. Last game he had a run out wide (no.. not that one, lol) and I couldn't believe how quick he looked getting around the corner and gaining 8-10 yards. He's an important part of the offense right now.
I also think he had a few handoffs where the RB was going to be swallowed so he should have kept.
I worry about keeping him healthy.

I hear you, PTG shouldn't be a power back, but that's how he runs... He gets most of his yards on grit and determination; then occasionally breaks a long one up the gut... Erv clearly has the speed to turn the corner that Gulley does not...Gulley is not a power back, AAM is. Running Gulley and Erv down a defenses throat will get him killed, running AAM at a defense softens them up as he runs over people.
Not sure there is much of a change of pace from Gulley to Erv wither.
Just my opinion.
