So do we get anyone back for Wake Forest?

Gulley IMO is better between the tackles but is not a power runner. When he runs off tackle or around the corner he hesitates too much, tries to jitterbug too much and doesn't use his speed. He is faster that he thinks he is.

Erv was a steal in recruiting. Imagine him with 15-20 more lbs on him with a bit more speed and his quickness after 1 full year in the S&C program.

Gonna be fun to watch next year.
He's like a "poor man's" power back maybe?
Hey, I would take his pipes any day...

Don't think we'll know till they are all healthy. Avant didn't play till after Lewis was hurt. So we basically played 4 receivers. West, Fleming, Ish and Lewis/Avant with Funder getting a few bones?

Where was Cornelius? Was he hurt too.

he is injured and was ruled out on thursday

I want Miller Foy and Crume back throw in one of the DB's if possible and add Ashton

I am actually really surprised at how well Palmer played at tackle with Foy out. Pleasantly surprised.

Could these 2 statements be related? As in, the coaching staff advised him to limit his own carries, so as to not get his <170-lb. body punished.
I think the staff absolutely held him back running, especially after he took a hard one on his first carry.

The straight line speed he showed on his last carry was impressive.

I've always thought he needs to trust his speed. Nobody is going to be fooled by a stutter step when he's trying to run wide and reach the corner.

Erv is the right guy to play the H-Back. He is quicker and faster than Broyld and has better hands. You are right a huge steal that everyone had figured as a DB.

I like Broyld on slants and posts but he hasn't scored a receiving TD since he has been here. He is a real challenge to get him in the best spot.

Strike AAM off that list for me; PTG is our best "power back" imo, play Erv as the change of pace speed back. Those 2 rbs for 90% of the snaps...

Totally agree. He had 2 carries including 1 where he actually out ran an FSU player to the corner for a real nice run. He gives us something none of the other rb's do. AAM stats are padded from garbage time vs CMU. Gulley, and Erv should get almost every carry. I wouldn't mind seeing Erv in the slot either.

I like AAM Erv isnt even close to being an every down back he just doesnt have the size or strength at this point

Looking at the stats for the year, Erv's yards are as proportionally padded as AAM's stats based on the CMU game AND the score differential in the CMU game.

I think Erv will be a great player but I haven't been as impressed with him as some people on the board. Impressed meaning, he hasn't blown me away to the point that I think he should get significantly more carries at the expense of someone else.

Well he wouldn't be an every down back PTG would be. Erv fills in for him. AAM is an OK back, he just doesn't give you what PTG and Erv do.

Did you see his 1 carry Saturday where he beat the FSU guy to the corner? Not 1 of our other backs could have done that. He will be a great running back here when he gets his shot I have no doubt.

The sweeps from the slot showed his speed and ability to turn the corner. I think the H-Back suits him.

I think he could be a really good H-Back, but he is a natural RB. He's got outstanding vision, and the ability to make those quick, shifty cuts in little spaces. Kid is a natural.

PTG was actually getting under the skins of the FSU players with his tenacity; he ran much harder than AAM... Prince may not be as big as some of our feature backs lately(e.g. Smith, DC3,) but I think he can handle the workload. Erv turning the corner and juggling the sideline for an extra 6yds was one of the Wow plays of the game...

Agreed. I think they will move him all over like they have with Broyld - drives me nuts.

So take out the CMU game.

AAM 4.6 ypc.
Erv 3.5 ypc.

Agreed on all counts. I think that with Lester at the helm we will see each of our backs put into better position to utilize their strengths.

Never said he wouldn't and I completely agree. Where we just don't agree is I think AAM is doing a very good job in his limited role and don't believe Erv should replace his carries. I've seen just as many runs with Erv where he went almost nowhere on plays and I've seen plays that AAM has turned 1 - 2 yards into 3 -4 or more.

So take out the CMU game.

AAM 4.6 ypc.
Erv 3.5 ypc.

Erv has been the culprit of at least a couple backwards passes where he lost a handful of yards.

Just imagine what AAM's ypc would be if the turf monster didn't get him twice a game...

Don't get me wrong I like AAM, I just think if you are going to be giving someone limited carries you would want it to be the player that gives you the ability to do something the other isn't capable of. I guess just having that home run threat.

I never implied that for AJ to good Hunt was crap. I was just stating things based on stats and observations.

I think Hunt was the QB we needed and the best on the roster last year with the most to offer. I think he is still a serviceable QB, I am just not certain with his regression that he is the best on the roster any longer. Compared to last year he looks worse.

I think the young guys have more upside and a higher ceiling. Fact remains he will have a tougher competition for starting/playing time.

My post was in response to another's post, not yours. I agree, you did not refer to crapping on Hunt. I believe that the poster I responded to did make that jump and maybe I should have been more direct in my response. Your points were discussion, though I disagree with your position.

I made the post because most people on here have been careful not to dump on TH. He deserves our gratitude and I think most on here appreciate what he has done for us.

I don't see him as a home run threat this year and I know you probably will think I'm crazy because of his speed. He's had some good runs but a majority of his runs have not been spectacular. AAM has gotten us 1st downs in many games at important points in the game. I think he's much quicker than he is given credit for (given his size - not implying he's a burner) and he's put in running situations where the defense knows he's getting the ball.

I completely respect your opinion though. We just don't agree exactly.

So was AAM. One in particular.
