Hours away from a chance to land in the sweet 16 and all we have to do is beat... Who? MTSU? I think everyone would have been happy to know that this is the position we'd find ourselves in at the close of the first weekend of the tournament. This team, despite it's flaws, has at times shown that it is capable of playing at a formidable level when our guys are playing up to their potential.

At the start of the season JB pretty much defined what this team would need to do to be successful and number one on his list was HITTING SHOTS. The most unnerving aspect of this years team has been that their ability to hit shots seems to come and go without any warning and at any time. Anyone who has ever competed in sports knows that the mental component plays a huge factor in level of performance in sports. That fact is supported by the fact that for many players and teams as well when the shots start to fall it can be contagious and when a player misses their first couple shots it can then balloon into a situation where the hoop seemingly has a lid on it. The video clip of JB talking to the team after the Dayton game and the palpable excitement seen when the team was rallying around Roberson is a good sign and an indication of a heightened morale and a positive vibe sweeping over the team.

I feel that the encouraging news is that although we did not finish the season on an upbeat note the start of the NCAA tournament represents a fresh start with a clear demarcation between it and the regular season and now the team, having cleared their first hurdle beating Dayton in convincing fashion, is in a particularly great position to do some damage moving forward.

We couldn't have asked for a better scenario in which the more highly seeded teams which awaited us "upbracket" have been conveniently dispensed with and replaced by teams with lower seeds. It really does seem like we have finally become the recipient of the type of good breaks we frankly haven't experienced in a long time.

If Roberson can build off of his performance against Dayton AND we can continue to play good defense, AND if we can hit shots, we get into that rarefied position of "Sweet and Elite" and perhaps even "final".

And with a little luck, I think we can do all of those things!

I second everything you said, although I can't look beyond today's game. Already I have non-SU friends texting me and saying how we have been given a gift, and I agree. But then they act as if it is a sure thing that we will beat MTSU and OMG, of course it's not an effin sure thing! I just texted one friend and said he was putting our team in a lose/lose situation: beat MTSU and it means nothing because they are a #15 seed, lose to MTSU and we will be a laughing stock. I told him I expected better of him.

I also loved the clip that showed the team piling on Roberson and hugging him. The biggest hurdle is that every one of them has to play up to their capabilities. We know it; they know it. MTSU has a lot of swag. They feel like winners. I hope our energy can match theirs.

Go Cuse!

I believe MTSU is going to put 75 plus points on the board as they are an excellent team when it comes to putting the ball in the hoop. We beat them by doing the same and winning the rebounding war. I just got a hunch that both teams are going to shot the ball well and that rebounding and turn overs will be the game changers. MTSU is a fast teams with a lot of hustle, we will need our "A" game to beat them. That being said I believe our "A" game is better than their "A" game, advantage Orange.

Well, I'm sure San Diego St felt like they got lucky to play Florida Gulf Coast a couple years back and ended up losing. If MTSU keeps its hot shooting streak going, we are in trouble! IE St Johns! BTW, if we make it to the sweet 16, the Zags are a very bad matchup for our team!

Today's game should be very interesting. MTSU has nothing to lose and we have a 2nd chance to make something out of this season. Thirteen Syracuse teams have made the Sweet Sixteen since the expanded brackets. Only six of those have made the Elite Eight. This team has a lot of talent as long as everyone comes to play. Shoot well, play great defense, rebound well, limit turnovers. No question that MTSU is a great three point shooting team but they only averaged 73 points a game this season as opposed to our 70. And we were a better offensive rebounding team, more assists, less turnovers, better FT% and we actually made more three pointers then they did this season (of course we shot a lot more).

What a wonderful opportunity. Many of us were expecting to be left out of the tournament, including JB, and here we are with a chance to go to the sweet 16. I think we win today, sending a second team to the sweet 16 after the women's team wins at the dome. We're hungry with a chance to be one of the 14 most successful teams in the Boeheim era. MTSU may be motivated but so are we. It's one game at a time from here on out and we won't be looking past this one. LGO!!

Maybe we should just cancel today's game then. And if we win today, cancel the next one. You know--because we could be in trouble, and every team we play could be a very bad matchup for our team.

Unbelievable.

We play a zone like nothing MTSU has seen, hopefully this will get into their heads and their scoring suffers accordingly. We have played better competition than them all season. I say advantage SU. Our game to lose.

Only a Syracuse fan can find despair at the height of positive mojo for the team.

Maybe we should just let MTSU win so we can save ourselves from losing to the Zags then. Sure the guys have some school work that needs to get done anyway.

No BBBBK allowed! (Basket Ball Board Buzz Kill)

Shame on all who would douse unmitigated hope and optimism by being a Nattering Nabob of Negativity!

But... there's no "I" in TEAM;)

And, you're going to have to wait for next season for "Battle".
