Do Boeheim's early words of "a thousand lies" come back to bite him? Is he a goner? How does this all affect the program?

It depends if he knew or not. The only way I can see him being fired is if Boeheim doesn't fire Fine immediately, then Boeheim will go down too IMO.

I wont be surprised either way with Boeheim. If he apologizes, says he was fooled, knew the man for 50 years, etc. then he could survive. The program will be fine as long as SU didn't cover anything up and the BSK report was thorough.

I don't think jimmy goes down in this. His friend of 50 years obviously led him down wrong track. My sense is Bernie got with him after he came out strong which is why jimmy added the 'we'll adjust' to the end of his previously provided statements.

Find it hard to believe jimmy did not know fine's were freaks.

Completely agree. Luckily Davis even says JB didnt know. What a sh!tshow.

I HIGHLY doubt SU covered anything up. Highly, highly doubtful. But I just wonder if Boeheim's mouth may have signed his own pink slip. He did call molested children "liars". I can see Nancy Cantor not being a big fan of that.

Maybe suspend Boeheim for a few games b/c of his comments? I'm sure he'll take some major heat but I just can't imagine him stepping down or being fired.

Was the liar comment in reference to bobby saying jim saw him in Bernie's room?

I still think there are credibility problem with each of the witnesses, however this tape is the bombshell.

I think the real question is how much has PSU changed the college sports world? 3 mos. ago no one would have even considered the possibility that JB would be fired for being duped and strongly defending his friend against what he believed were meritless accusations.

He called him a liar in regards to JB seeing him in a hotel room, the "thousand lies" comment was in regards to the whole allegation.

I think Boeheim's comments help him. He was so adament about his feelings, it now makes it seem there is no way he knew anything was going on. If he did know, his comments might be a stroke of genious.

I dont think JB gets canned. He will apologize, this will be big news for a couple weeks. Winning cures everything and from an SU basketball viewpoint, thats more important than ever.

Too late for that. Which is why it was smart to suspend him for the comments for the MSG games.

I agree. I've always liked Cantor, and I know others don't, but she is the right person for SU to have in charge and handling this crisis for the University.

He may survive if he issues some kinda profuse public apology etc etc

What an unbelievable mess.

Nothing is going to happen to JB ... he spoke from his gut and his heart for a friend he has known for 50 years ... I would do the same if I didn't know what was going on. B/c he has known them for so long doesn't mean he knew what was going on in the family ... those are real secrets that the family would never let out ... and I'll bet that the kids (are there any?) are just finding out as well. I am sure JB is sick to his stomach. I do not believe that JB knew anything ... he would have gotten rid of Bernie a long time ago if he knew or found out. I believe he has a lotof integrity ... in the program and for his friends.

JB is OK, as long as he comes out, says he was fooled by Bernie all these years, and does his mea culpa publicly.

We don't know what, if anything, Boeheim knew. But, the SU hoops program is not unlike the Penn State football program in that it has been the exclusive domain of one powerful figure for close to 40 years now. Like State Penn's football program, our hoops program is the university's biggest cash cow and most recognizable public manifestation of SU, for better or worse.

I think I see a lot of wishful thinking here, and I share it. But, we have now learned that Fine's unvarnished assertions of innocence were lies, pardon the expression, 'unadulterated' lies.

Nothing is off the table yet, and Boeheim could well turn out to have been an enabler, if an unwitting one. If so, he must go.

Wish I could say I was more optimistic.

Unless it can be proven that he knew...and even Davis says he didn't...he likely survives.

That said, his legacy is tarnished by association and so is the program.

JB may be depressed enough to leave on his own.

One further thought...how does this impact Hop? Is he considered tarnished by association as well? I the house is cleaned, does Hop go with it?

Wonder if Red Autry is second-guessing his decision to come to SU?

I have considered the JB depressed theory as well. I'd say that is very plausible.

If you assume JB was unaware of this stuff, then he was only speaking from the heart while supporting a friend of many decades. He is hardly responsible for what Bernie did in his private life and it is certainly possible that he didn't know because this type crime by it's nature is something that requires deep, dark secrecy. I see no need for an apology for anything other than calling the accusers liars, while explaining that based on what he knew of his longtime friend, they appeared to be exactly that.

It seems more like Bernie was willing to throw his friend under the bus by not confiding in JB when this first came out. That would have kept the "thousand lies" stuff out of the story. Bernie not only apparently abused these young boys, but he hung SU and his longtime "friend" out to dry.

All this being said, I have also wondered if this isn't just going to be more than JB wants to deal with and if he decides to retire after this year. That would be a shame if that's the reason he leaves. As for Hop and Autry, I really don't see them having issues unless someone decides the program needs a new start with no former SU ties.

There is a scenario, and a believable one, that might have happened; Bernie told JB it was all lies and JB believed him. Not saying it DID happen, but it certainly could have. Guess we'll have to see.

Completely agree. Given how charged these accusations are and the climate in the aftermath of the Penn State scandal, nothing would surprise me at this point.

I don't want to rush to judgement on the info that surfaced today--time will tell--but if Boeheim [even unknowingly] fostered an environment that allowed one of his assistant coaches to prey upon children, he's got to go. Right?

The only thing that gives me pause is the 2005 University investigation. Sure, this new info damaging--but so did what came out 10 days ago before people began to scrutinize.

Could the University / BMK have been so egregious in overlooking such details back in 2005?

I think I am stealing your own words, but I think Cantor is going to scorch the earth around this program if this is true.
