Had lunch and made a Carousel Mall trip with my good friend who is a manager of the football team. I told yall I would try my best to get some information out of him, so I will share some of the things he told me.

  • Daoust, who he spent a lot of time helping, is apparently very well liked by the defensive line. He coaches a lot and has a big sense of humor with a lot of the players. He also coaches the long snappers on special teams as well. Was told that he was a very good coach to have.
  • The week of the Pitt game, there were certain players that didn't want to win that game. Was told that Lyn was making comments all week long about sending Pitt the game plan because if they won they would have to put up with another month for nothing but a crappy bowl game. My friend didn't know if that was part of the reason that he was sent home.
  • Marrone doesn't do a whole lot of coaching the offensive line according to my friend. He was really hands on when Adkins went out for surgery, but apparently he stayed away from the unit, which my friend was really surprised about.
  • My friend says Desir is a stud and was making plays all the time in practice. He said he would be surprised if Desir wasn't really involved next season.
  • One of the best things Hacket does (and my friend is NOT a Hacket fan) is relate to the players a lot better than HCDM. While we all know Doug runs a tight ship, NH is often the one who players go to. My friend used the word "codling".
  • Says that HCDM has no personality during practices. He thinks he needs to loosen up a bit. (I know that's his opinion but my friend said that Dough is just a very straight cut person)
  • Last piece I can remember was how the team does dinner. There is one table for the people who need to put on weight and one table for the people who need to maintain our lose. He referenced Max B who has been at the table of people who needs to gain weight for 2 seasons. He said Max B is too skinny for DEnd and has no hands for a TE. He also says that Donnie Simmons is REALLY fast and that he thinks he will be a starter at some point.
That's really all I can remember right now, if I remember something else, I will post it. I guess I should have taken notes while we were talking. I am always trying to get information out of him so if there's anything anyone wants to know, inbox me, and i'll make sure to ask when I see him tomorrow.

good stuff thanks for the info

Thanks - good stuff. My suggestion though is to remove reference to your source.

Interesting stuff. Seems like Doug does indeed need to loosen up a bit. Thanks for sharing!

Good advice, as we have been told that members of the staff do indeed read this site.

Didn't even realized I had typed that! Thanks, I'll do it right now!

i have posted several times that hcdm needs to lighten up a bit. he has aged 10yrs since taking this job---that degeree of tightnes DOES translate to the players in terms of fear.as well as other coaches. don't get me wrong i do not want him to be the players buddy, i do want him to instill drive and success, if he continues in this vein, failure is enevitable. a noticeble difference appears in the looseness that the bball players have. lots of smiles high fives and they have fun----not so with 'ball. if those of you remember coach mac during warm ups he was smiling, encouraging players laughing with them etc---doug needs to lighten up. hell even vince lombardie showed a sense of humor.we all do things well when relaxed and not afraid to make mistakes--there in lies dougs weakness---lighten up now--adjust your management style ===its time to do so---i still want at least a 2-3year contract extension--i believe he is right the man for this job and needs to grow into it

If there's one thing that Marrone and GRob have in common (some hearts probably just stopped), it's that both of them aged in dog years after taking the SU job. When Marrone got the job he just looked fairly young, eager, energetic. 3 years later he looks and sounds like an older relative of that once eager coach, a relative who's been battling alcoholism and depression for about 10 years.

I think we all aged a few years watching this year's team. It was a disappointing year.

If the post about Lyn is true, then I could live without seeing that bag of trash. I am all for second chances. Without the second, and third chances that I've had, I wouldn't be where I am right now, having the opportunity to pursue the career field that I'm in. However, my mistakes never directly affected others as much as an entire football or a university.

It's my mistake that I slept through my final or didn't study. In fact, it's my personal liberty to do so. However, once you're affecting others, then you're done. This hopeless kid can go home for good for all I care.

This is what scares me. I would expect a lame duck coach to lose a team. But for a 3rd year coach of a long struggling team to lose a program on the verge of a bowl game speaks volumes to me. Doug's been stripped of his AAA credit rating with this move...

My 3 year old needs to be coddled. How toxic is the situation if a D1 player needs to be "coddled" by the coordinator? Is HCDM being that big of a to these players? I have a hard time believing that Frank Beemer's assistants need to coddle their players.

I don't think having HC Bad Cop, Assistant Good Cop, is all that uncommon. We've had it in our own hoops program, even though Good Cop is the HC in waiting. Herb Brooks is one who made that famous.

The comment makes a lot of sense too that it's happening that way, Hackett did seem to be quite the players' coach when he was on the sideline.

Why would anyone want Lyn to stay. His play on the field was average at best and most games he had to come out with some injury. Attitude was evident in tweets all year long. If this is true it shows a total lack of disrespect for the seniors, coaches and the school.

The Stuff about lyn is accurate to a certain extent, highly doubt he sent the game plan but I am sure his attitude was nothing short of crap. yet people will continue to talk about how we need him back? What for? As I have said, you don't get sent home from a road game for a pillow fight. Doug should get rid of Hackett and ratchet up the discipline, it's the only way. You can't waiver

Average at best? He was our best corner as a sophomore and will be an NFLer. I certainly want him to stay and would be a major loss in the secondary (more so than either of the Thomases)

no kidding

So you want a kid playing who doesnt care about the team winning? Wow. This is an all time low for the board. At least M Williams was a star, Lyn is an internet forum hero. Lyn is highly replaceable to me

So Keon told you this personally? Here comes the gossip from the board drama queen. I don't believe that to be the case. As you have been harping on since the end of the season, let's let Dougie make all of the personnel decisions since he's certainly more privy to what's going on than you or I. And he certainly needs to be held accountable for not only the incoming recruiting class but also who should be asked back.

Battling alcoholism? Aren't we being a bit dramatic here?

I don't care about the various rumors, but I'm increasingly concerned about Marrone's frame of mind. Sadly I think he has become the head coaching version of Cameron Frye, meaning he's so uptight that if you shoved a lump of coal up his ass in 2 weeks you'd have a diamond.
