Sorry to see Cowherd go?

His view on the intelligence of Dominicans shows his own ignorance. The fact that the educational system in the Dominican Republic is inferior to the United States has nothing to do with the general intelligence of the population. A friend of mine is from the Dominican Republic and he is a very intelligent and talented engineer. Intelligence is the capacity to learn, not the level of education. His comments make him sound like an idiot.
Hence the expression, "Educated beyond his intelligence."

So does this hurt him with his new job? I don't particularly care for him but I will say he did grab my attention from time to time and I think his shtick was to present an extreme position and get a lot of feedback on both sides which he was good at.

Nah, Fox knows what Cowherd is.

Anyways, I doubt Cowherd would have been "fired" if he weren't leaving in one week anyways. Even if he were a racist person, I don't think his comments really proved it one way or another. He basically just said the DR's educational system is poor and that baseball is more an instinctual game. The one comment taken out of context sounds much worse than his actual argument was.

To me, this goes into the category of "things that are probably best left un-said, but isn't incorrect either". Not the first time in the past year or so that we've seen ESPN guys get into trouble for this same kinda thing and probably won't be the last.

I just think that his point of view is not sound. We may have a better educational system in the United States, but last I knew, baseball was not part of any core curriculum. I think he is correct in that the sport is instinctual, that is largely the case for the players of most sports besides sports that are judged like gymnastics or figure skating. In my opinion, intelligence helps in any sport. These kids learn the game by playing it. They learn different angles and how to read a pitcher. The ones that do it better become better players. That shows intellect. For Colin Cowherd to call an entire nation of people dumb because their educations system isn't as strong as ours kind of shows his own stupidity.

Agreed.

Don't get me wrong; I wasn't saying Cowherd's argument was a good one to make. Simply that his assertion that their educational system is poor and that baseball relies on instincts are both technically correct. I agree that being smarter clearly helps you in baseball, much like it does in basically any sport. Even back when I played in my teens, I used to pick up on pitcher's tendencies and pick up on coach's signs to use them to my advantage when I was hitting or on the bases.

Sports radio host Colin Cowherd, who on Friday was dropped by ESPN for controversial comments made on his radio show, has sold his home in West Hartford, Conn., for $1.15 million, according toEstately.

He bought the house in 2010 for $1.34 million, records show.

Trimmed in white, the Colonial-style home was built in 2004 and has about 6,100 square feet of space across three floors.

Cowherd also has a home on the market in Naples, Fla., for $4.25 million. Featured in “Home & Design” magazine in 2015, the contemporary-style home is highlighted by a floating glass staircase, mosaic stone walls and dark tongue-and-groove ceilings.

Formal living and dining rooms, a wet bar, four bedrooms and four bathrooms are within the 3,562 square feet of living space. Outdoors, landscaped grounds feature a swimming pool and spa, a covered veranda with a fireplace and multiple balconies.

Am I alone in wishing that sports radio was more about sports than these blowhards coming up with controversial statements to drive their ratings? I thoroughly enjoyed Mike and Mike talking with Johnny Bench during All Star week. I could listen to interviews of these former stars all day long. And I don't care what sport it is, even sports that I am not a fan of, like hockey. Interview a legend and I will listen. Hell, beyond sports, interview a WWII veteran and I am all ears. I want to hear their stories, beyond what textbooks tell us. I want to hear what it was like to experience what they did in their own words. In my opinion, that would be much more entertaining than hearing sentence fragments of controversies conjured up to fill air time. They talk endlessly about nothing at all. Rant over.

not alone. I barely ever listen anymore. If they would simply stick to whats happening in the sports and how they think it will go in the future I'd be much more inclined to have the radio on sports stations again.

They all sound the same now. It is like there are a thousand Jim Romes out there. They fragment their speech and there are moments of silence as if they are allowing their listeners to ponder the great knowledge just bestowed upon them. I am not sure what guys like Colin Cowherd or Jim Rome did before, for some insane reason, they were given a platform to spew their crap. I just imagine they were that know it all drunkard at the bar all day telling everyone how much they know about everything. Go back to the bar guys, let some skilled interviewers take over sports radio and tell stories that we want to hear.

Rome has been on the air forever, and it's not by accident.

It's not about being right though.
I agree, it is about keeping the sheep coming back for their daily feeding of crap.

Rome is actually very funny and has a program that's original with some very funny smack talk. Love his sarcasm. He's one with his crowd, unlike Cowherd. I guess it's not for everyone. To each his own I guess.

I guess what I was trying to say is that guys like Rome and CC stay on the air for 10 plus years because people listen. But I agree with you as well. Jim Rome's show is actually quite different from any other national radio guy. Not to mention the fact that you also have guys like Dan Lebatard who IMO show is quite funny (his whole thing is making fun of traditional sports radio) and Ryen Russillo is great too.

Imo he is worse than Skip Bayless cuz he actually believes the trash that comes out of his mouth. Hopefully he doesn't show up anywhere relevant so I can forget he existed.
I have since saw that he was leaving ESPN for Fox Sports anyways. So does that qualify for going someplace relevant?

Yep, he's the very definition of a frontrunner. Only likes USC, the Yankees, the Lakers, the Cowboys, etc. He doesn't like seeing parity, he has said time and again he greatly prefers when Duke, for example, is on top.
That is because they "are the best and everybody loves or hates the best therefore are the best thing for their sport"

Agreed.

Oh great we've gone from racism to stealing signs ... I kid I kid ...

What he said was idiotic and dumb. I do enjoy his show though. Kind of reminds of a Mad Dog Russo in that he just spouts off stuff.

Will definitely miss him. I enjoyed his show. His take here was dumb, but not mean spirited.

PC crowd always overreacts.

If he wasn't leaving for Fox, I doubt ESPN responds the way they did. He's said worse.

Do you think ESPN firing him a week early and bringing attention to him will hurt or help his ratings at Fox? It may have been a dumb move by ESPN, because more people will tune in to hear what comes out of his mouth next.

It can only help. If ESPN did nothing, I doubt we'd be talking about it.
