SOS

Here is the thing I get on the coach for not beating anyone this year (Purdue is probably one of if not the worst P5 team) but he has won the games he needed to despite the embarrassing blowouts.

This next stretch makes or breaks him. I oddly think this team either wins 8/9 or doesn’t even make it to 6.

I think you're right, and we'll know for sure which way it goes after VPI.

how is purdue the worst P5 team?

Pick a ranking tool to get there?

Even FPI has us top 40 now and them 60 ahead of a bunch of P5 teams.

I agree though we need to show it on the field down the stretch.

I hope FPI numbers are great, they have us at 60-90% to win every game.

The FPI is incorrectly overstating our future production. Does anyone seriously think we have that high of a probability to win out? I don't think even many of the Orange glasses types see winning out at that likelihood. We started the year out playing pretty well and have gotten worse at WR, OL and at QB and I don't think that is just because of the talent we have played against the last 3 weeks. Now I know other teams have injuries as well and gotten worse on specific units but i think other teams have also likely progressed at some units more than we have as well.

But I think we can win 3 of the last 5 games and get to 7 wins. Hopefully an extra weeks rest is really good on Shrader's arm and we can get some OL guys back fully healthy along with Isiah Jones. All those things would be very beneficial.

Look at Arizona for a similar program...

They just played #7 Washington #9 USC and #19 Washington State 3 games in a row that are similar to the 3 games we just played... They went 1-2 and played the #7 and #9 teams in the nation in a one-score game. They were competitive and showed life. If Dino went 0-3 and was competitive and showed life nobody would have calling for his job right now. The fact that we got boat raced and everything game looked lost is why people are up in arms.

I totally agree. I never saw us winning the last 3 games unless something fluky happened. I’ll reserve judgement on Dino for the last 5 games after the bye week.

Its alright guys only 6 more weeks of Dino and then we can start from ground zero again. I'm excited! Hopefully we get a guy like Urban Meyer or Dabo Swinney.(sarcasm)

I'm not a big fan of Dino, but realistically how much better should we be doing now given our current SOS?

Sagarin has SU's schedule at #40.
TeamRankings.com has SU's schedule at #29.

Some (including ESPN) may only look at the games played thus far, while others look at the entire schedule.

We need our O line to get healthy, and Shrader needs some recovery and treatment.
We could still salvage a very nice season, but they have looked like beaten players way too early in these recent losses.

P5 teams worse than Purdue using Sagarin ratings: Northwestern, Indiana, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Virginia, Baylor, Houston, Vanderbilt, Arizona State, Stanford, Colorado. Purdue isn't great, but they aren't even in the conversation of "worst P5 team". They aren't even close to "worst Big Ten team".

More importantly, there are three teams on that list who we still play. And Virginia Tech is basically tied with Purdue. Which is why I really don't get the doom and gloom here - we lost to three top 20 teams. Doesn't really matter if we lose by 18 or 38 either - we weren't going to compete with any of those teams. We're exactly where we should be at this point, and are set up nicely for an 8 win season right now.

As a slight aside, turning the Pitt game into a neutral site game this year was really stupid. It looks like that will turn us from a favorite to the underdog in that game.

If you can only look at so far in that thats the reason for our record now.. if we are 8-4 with a SOS of 40 thats fine as well..

Ultimately it’s what did P in. The blowout losses.

There are ALWAYS excuses.

Usually provided by the same people who a few weeks ago were sure we'd be 9-3 this year.

Well, as of this moment - there's still a (remote/theoretical) chance we could go 9-3.

None of these last 5 games are unwinnable.
We may even be favored in several of them.

I don't think it's likely, but it's not unpossible.

5-0 - extend Dino, Rocky, Beck. 9-3 is an outstanding result for Cuse.
4-1 - yay!! Enjoy the nice bowl game!
3-2 - not bad. Prolly a meh bowl game tho.
2-3 - ugh. Dino's seat getting very, very warm.
1-4 or 0-5 - sharpen the pitchforks and light the torches. He gone.

You just know that the Pitt game is gonna end up being critical -
and we're playing it on a field the quality of a cow pasture, in front of... nearly nobody.

Because: reasons.
