For those who weren't able to attend, or watch on TV/Internet, here's a few things that stood out about the Spring game.

- Pretty impressed with the turnout. I'd say it was better attended this year then it was Shafer's first 2 seasons.
- No orange jerseys.
- As for the actual game, errrr scrimmage, there wasn't too much excitement. I'd say for the most part the defense dominated other then 3 big plays (that I will get to). Defense absolutely shut down the run game. Morris and McFarlande were getting blasted from all directions. Not sure if it was great defense, or poor offense though?
- Some defensive standouts that I noticed, and I admit I had a poor angle so missed a lot. Parris Bennett, and Jonathan Thomas made some big hits, Bennett especially had a solid day. Cory Winfield made a nice interception, but also gave up a long TD pass. It was good to see big John Raymon playing. He looked like he is 100%, and was on the field the majority of the team. He looks bigger then ever, and a whole lot of that bigness is muscle. He and Samuels, did a good job of stuffing up the middle. Our DT's had their way against our interior OL that was missing Trudo.
- Thompson, and Simmons each had at least 1 sack that I saw.
- Really impressed with Cordy, Dowels, and Hudson. They looked solid in coverage all day.
- Offensively it was a struggle for the most part. Got in the red zone a few times and were unable to score. On one possession McPherson dropped an easy TD in the end zone.
- imo Quarterbacks weren't that great. They made a couple big throws, but struggled with accuracy. Wilson, and AJ each had a long completion, and there was another long TD completion that I don't recall who threw it?
- I think our WR's have a chance to be the strength of the team if someone can get them the ball. Ishmael looks poised to have a breakout season. Erv looked great in his new role, breaking off a few big plays, and then you have Custis and Enoicy. Not only do they look the part, but they can play. Each are a solid 6'5 - 6'6 230-240. It was fun watching them lineup opposite one another. Talk about an intimidating duo.Plus each caught long bombs, with Custis making a nice catch with the defender all over him. Ishmael also had a highlight reel catch down the sideline where he literally snagged the ball over Dowels?? head. Estime also had a long catch. Dunk had 2 catches as well, 1 of them for about 20 yards. he looks like he will be a solid option.
- As for the offensive line i'd say they were average. They did a good job protecting the qb for the most part, but struggled opening up running lanes. Missing Trudo had to factor into it. Ohhhh, they had NO false starts, so theres that.

Sorry for the rambling notes, i am sure I am forgetting a ton, and you will get some better reports, but that's just what I saw. Obviously they weren't showing much, but at this point i'd say the defense was ahead of the offense, but our wide receivers are what stood out to me.

Wilson grew the long TD pass to Enoicy. It was a rope down the seam.

I thought Avant looked good to.

Good report. To add to your list...I thought Slayton (#95) looked very good as did Donnie Simmons. Thompson could have an All ACC type of year if he stays healthy.

I wonder if Wayne Williams is on the shat-list again? I never saw him play with the one's.

One huge, I mean HUGE disappointment. Not one bubble screen ;-)

Isaiah Johnson didn't seem to be around. Walkons were playing DE with the 2s.

Williams was sick

Did Cornelius play? Don't recall seeing him.

Would be nice if someone would ask the coaches where he was since he wasn't on the injury list.

Best part from watching on TV, seeing our resident stalker following recruits up the stairs at that break.

At least I didn't miss that.

As for the event itself, NC.

Thank you for the recap truly appreciate it! Question how did the swagger beast look? Also who do you think gets the nod at RB?

Honestly I had a bad angle, I really couldn't get a good view of the interior line, so I really didn't notice WW. Raymon stood out some, mainly because he is so damn huge.

As for the running backs, I don't know, neither did anything today. I wouldn't be surprised to see Strickland, or Fredericks come in and emerge as the top option. Basically imo it's wide open.

Watching it on the Internets, it seemed kinda mediocre if not scary.

The OL could not run block a lick. Hunt looked terrible.

WRs seemed remarkable (other than Broyld) and Bennett at LB definitely stood out. And our QBs made our CBs look awesome.

Others mentioned Isiah Johnson. Kid made hustle plays as a FR...seemingly disappeared last season and don't recall him today.

This really needs to be a year where Specials steal us 1-2 games. With what we have a K and P, that seems to be possible. Hope the coverage/return teams dial it up.

thank you for your observations---on the plus side i have not heard the bravado i have heard in recent years ---no koolaid, thats good. no offense? why am i not surprised. the wheels are still off the bus. well, its shafers last hurrah to show progress---we will see what he can do---and i hope it is a lot---support has dwindled ---and it is not all shafers doing----its how the fan base has been treated and the total functioning of the athletic dept in relation to football

I saw Wayne Williams get blown Up by rovers and Palmer on one of the long run plays.

But it was the eight-straight winter of unbelievable workouts!

Hunt's inaccuracy was pretty scary. Wilson, and Long weren't much better. The 3 of them were even struggling to make 1 on 0 completions running the passing tree

Wasn't Wilson 7-10?

Wow. I didn't even look at the stats. Definitely didn't seem it. He was air mailing some in regular passing drills. It always seemed his ball was high.
