Springsteen 9/7 & WMU 9/9

Wow! After all of the respect I have gained for so many on this board in the way of sports, much goodwill has been lost based upon those that seemingly don't know great music. ;)

Chili Peppers and Bruce are music legends that people in or around the area should be thrilled that they booked Syracuse NY. Both concerts are or will be sell outs at an average ticket price that is 4x that of any of the "current" acts at the Ampitheater. Look at Bruce's tour schedule, its all major markets and Syracuse.

Good God people.
Kids these days. ‍

Albany, State College and uncasville...great for the Dome but let's not make it out this Tour is all Tier I cities.

Fair point. I was specifically talking about the new release dates which are all post-European swing and stadium type venues. Its all big cities and Syracuse.

But Dino gets screwed out of 3 days worth of Dome practice.

What’s Wildhack thinking?
he's thinking about the leftover shekels the University gets after Ticketmaster, Live Nation, and Bruce take their cut

Actually he isn’t thinking anything since he doesn’t own the Dome. He is just a tenant. Not a dime from concerts or other events like Monster Trucks goes to Athletics.

A couple of thoughts:
-I am assuming the influx of concerts is two-fold: 1) it is more appealing for acts and fans to attend with recent upgrades to the building (i.e. we probably would not have hosted Paul McCartney in June if not for the AC upgrades. Which by the way, it was incredibly comfortable in there that evening.) and 2) we need to host more of these with ticket sales for basketball being abysmal (and everything correlated with that: concessions, beer, etc.).

-For those asking about the world tours of Taylor Swift, etc. Taylor Swift is playing in NFL football stadiums. Acisure stadium for example holds 68,400 for an NFL game, so they will pay more than that in there with field seating for her concert. Elton John was sold out at 38K. So while it has been great to have some name brand world tours coming to Syracuse, it still doesn't have the capacity for the A++ list of world tours.

Let's not forget that many artists who are touring stadiums do so with a stage, light and sound set up that is constructed for outdoor venues. It may be a hassle to customize that for a one-off Dome show amidst a run of dozens of open air gigs.

Some of these mega setups (Taylor Swift, Coldplay) don't fit.

He’s purposefully doing smaller arenas to start. He’s done it many times.

And mohegan sun is actually a top venue for artists along the east coast. It’s great for fans and the artists get a huge guarantee because the casino uses it to lure folks there.

Yeah times have changed. In the 80's/90s we did get all the top tours (Police, Bruce, Pink Floyd & U2 (back to back weekends)The Who, The Stones, Prince, etc., but these things have gotten HUGE. The Dome is wedged in between arena's (20K) & mega-Stadiums (50K+) these days

Bsteen's 3rd was the last of it for me - Bjoel only got my $ for 2. Can you say gigolos?

For sure.

This discussion is a no-win for the Dome folks. If they announced that, say, Bad Bunny was doing a show you'd have a bunch of people here whining about "today's music sucks" and blah blah blah.

I mean, rock as a stadium-filling genre is dead for almost any band that started post-2000.

If you want to fill the Dome it's either going to be geriatric rockers, country artists or pop stars. The latter two would get all sorts of complaints from people on this board.

Steel Wheels not so old at the time Mick (I thought he was ancient, stupid me) was practically scraping his head on the roof of the Dome singing from a tower for Sympathy...

Bruce…the greatest show on earth.

I was at that one…..89-90 right?? Great show and I think Living Color opened which was good.

The back to back Pink Floyd - U2 concerts was an unbelievable feat to get those caliber of bands at the dome in a span of a week. I went to PF but couldn’t go to U2 as I had a football game at RFA that night…got our a$$es kicked too.

All true but quality of the venues has nothing to do with my comment.

Well obviously a town in the middle of nowhere in ct isn’t a tier one city. It’s not even a city.

The size of the town doesn’t matter for the artists. The pay and experience do. If you give an artist five million to play in the desert, they show up. you’re acting like he’s all of a sudden playing mid size amphitheaters. I’m sure he’s getting a very nice guarantee to play at the Dome.

He actually has a big gap on his schedule from mid September on. He was supposed to play a lot of other venues but they cancelled at last minute. They pared the fall portion of the tour back substantially. I’m surprised they kept the Syracuse and PA dates.

That's the fan base now...Houston was half full last night.

Scalpers take the hit. The shows are sold out.

People over estimated demand and between covid and the bands being rusty / age, the shows haven’t been great yet.

The resale prices were absurd so glad folks are taking a beating.

Probably not for the football board but I've come around somewhat on the dynamic pricing thing. It's really the last payday for Team Bruce, the stadium stuff should be affordable and he's clearly been out there and available the last 24 years.

Technology has turned the industry completely upside down. Revenue used to be primarily from hard copy music sales whether vinyl, tapes or CDs. Tours promoted the lifeblood the artists reaped from sales. Now with streaming and piracy sales are minimal and the artists have to rely on tours for the bulk of their revenue.
