St. John's fires Mike Anderson / hires Rick Pitino

You’re hurting his agenda.
Agenda? Huh? Yes my “Scooch is bewildered at the weird obsession people have with disgraced 70 year old coach Rick Pitino” agenda.

Siena outscored Iona 37-17 in the 2nd half to win by 17. Carmen Maciarello gets no publicity as the head coach at Siena. In his first three years there, he had two firsts and a 3rd in the MAAC. And has his team in first again. Iona looked real flat in the 2nd half. Hopefully no one is still on the Pitino to Cuse bandwagon.
I know Carm, he's a nice guy and has done a great job coaching Siena.

Funny thing is, and you know how some things get exaggerated a little. I was told Pitino kicked security out of shoot around. And also refused to talk to the TV guys before the game. It was more than just blowing off everything post game. Some chatter that Pitino may be with St John’s or Georgetown next year. We will see.

You're not alone. It's stupid to even bring his name up as a possibility.

But hey, have at it folks!

Ok, no problem. Most of us would be perfectly satisfied with Popovich, if Pitino isn’t an option.
History has shown the longer an older coach holds on for, the worse his teams will perform. Even 74 year old Gregg Popovich has now had four straight losing seasons. Now there might be exceptions, and Pitino might be one of them, but I can't imagine in a million years that Syracuse would hire a 70 year old coach or put up with four straight losing seasons.

Now, with NIL changing the rules, take everything I just said and throw it out the window.

Georgetown could in theory hire the guy for three / four years, get them to a baseline to about where we are now, and leave. And it would be still be a win for them.

Georgetown has had one winning season in the last eight. They need to do something. Good thing we are not Georgetown (so far).

Pop knows his role though. It's to develop the youth on his team. This year, it is to tank.

Pitino is 70. By the start of next season he will be 71. Sorry but I am looking for some younger energy in the program. If Rick was 55 to 60 then heck yeah bring him in. He is encroaching on JB status. I don't want Syracuse in the same position after JB retires. Get some younger coaching and pair that with our newly energized Nil and you will start filling up the dome like it used to be.

One more time. Its opening game 2024 lights are dim and through the smoke Rick dressed in a neon orange leisure suit Rides to center court on a white horse as JB and Julie clap wildly seated next to a beaming JW.

We are WAY closer to Georgetown than any true peer program of ours MSU/Kansas/Duke etc. Way closer. Uconn has lapped us with 1 hot early season this year.

Every season since 2014 has pretty much been the same as this one. Georgetown got a miracle NBE title we won a couple NCAA tournament games against overrated teams years we should have been in the NIT. (2016 run was legit even though the bid was fortunate but that was only a year after the program started its rapid decline and we were still putting someone in the 1st round every year at that point.)

Last four seasons MSU at 74 wins, SU at 65 wins, GTown at 40 wins.

Sign me up for Hart. I am just tired of zone 24-7.

I threw Harts name out there a couple months ago. I think he’d do great. I have no idea who will be the next coach but I think it comes from this group, in no particular order, Hart, Hop, Gmac, Smart.

People have been talking about J Hart as a possibility on this site for awhile now, but it really heated up once he left USC (where he was their ace recruiter) and became the G League Ignite head coach. That was in Aug 2021.
