Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

I see the point, and frankly I don't disagree. Harry Potter suffers the same fate. In a world where you have magic (or the force or tech like in SW) it can be tough to come up with a compelling dilemma for the characters that they can't just magic their way out of. But you have to stick to some basic rules or the balance of things gets out of wack in a silly way. If this Holdo thing was doable all along, then there was no point in any of the things that happened previously in all the other films. It is the ultimate get out of jail free card. Certainly it would have made the Empire/First Order/Whoever think a heck of a lot differently about building massive capital ships and death stars (I would asume anyway), if all of them could be destroyed by 50 Republic Credits worth of Asteroid, a hyperdrive, and droid to steer it!
Except it wasn’t doable all along. Someone had to come up with the idea first.

I’m still not sure what actual rules or underpinnings were broken by the maneuver or killing off Snoke.

I give you credit, you’ve got a pretty amazing ability to argue your position on every board on this forum. I guess that is to be applauded.
I’ll take it.

couple of things:

1. you assume that the jump to hyperspace is just like punching the gas on a green-light, its not.
2. coordinates are set in space to jump from 1 spot to the other, the 1st spot is where you are.
3. Poe set the coordinates then was escorted off the bridge.
4. the Cruiser kept moving, Holdo heard the alert, saw that the coordinates were behind the Raddus AND behind the Supremacy.
5. the Raddus would literally be pulled through the Supremacy to the jump spot.
6. good luck getting a droid piloted fighter on both sides of a battleship to set coordinates without it being blown to pieces 1st.

If you defend the Holdo maneuver then what is the point.
That wasn’t Star Wars. The Last Jedi hurt the franchise immensely.
The Rise of Skywalker was better but it was too much in one movie.

I understand the original trilogy had holes. The second trilogy had holes as well.

you are in a small minority of people who dislike the Holdo maneuver.

the 1st of which i ever of heard of to be honest, but then again this is the only Star Wars 'fan page' i ever hit.

thank god.

the more you all here shlit on TLJ, the more it will make me find ways to spin it as better than the Godfather.

i will watch tonight and get started...

No offense but if you don’t realize the Holdo Maneuver was VERY unpopular with Star Wars fans I can’t help you.
You admit you don’t talk about it with others. It was controversial. Why would the Rebels need the schematics for Death Star? Why wouldn’t the rebels use it to destroy Imperial Star destroyers. You wouldn’t even need large ships. Just small ships and pilot them with droids no lives lost that way.

Because it's in the movie, therefore it's canon in a fantasy sci-fi movie,
in IX, Charlie said it was a 1 in a million chance of working, but then JJ used it again to blow up a destroyer on Endor.
You accept it and move on.

You really hated VIII, for a few reasons, we get it. So did a lot of people - many for reasons that have nothing to do with Star Wars. But Disney spent $400m making it that way. It wasn't some fanfic written on Reddit.

It's really larger than a small minority within the engaged SW community.

Geek out, lads. Geek out.

that article sorta backs up my point that we should just all sit back and enjoy the coolness of it.

it didnt ruin the movie for my then 8 & 6 year olds and it didnt take away from TROS for them now at 10 & 8.

if it pisses off some millenials...so the Fluk be it.

good actually.

I remember the good old days when people were screaming about how Empire Strikes Back ruined Star Wars. Memories...

It wasn’t Star Wars? What does that even mean?

I do actually now want to see 7,8,9 in quick succession to see how I feel about it now. There were cool moments in 8 for sure. Kylo Ren is my favorite Star Wars character of all the films. I have zero problem with the main hero being a woman. I really liked Finn in 7 and 9 (I recall them having nothing for him to do in 8). Overall I enjoyed the new trilogy. Would love a Kylo spinoff but I doubt we’ll get that.

The "unsafety" of jumping to light speed without setting the coordinates to avoid hitting stuff is well known in the Star Wars universe. Admiral Holdo doing that in Rogue One, I think it was, was an act of sacrifice.

(And yes, I suppose it shows that you could have done what you are saying, but not all small craft can get up to light speed, can they? Isn't that why Tie Fighters are carried on Destroyers?)

I don't think anybody was very upset about it, except maybe in StarWars Reddit groups or other Internet subgroups, where supposed "fans" of franchises all criticize and hate everything about the fandom and the films.

Some people only use the Internet groups to show how smart they are, by hating on everything and everyone else.

So, if those people were upset about the "Holdo Maneuver", well, they'll get over it.

It was a terrific movie. Very enjoyable if you are a 40 year fan of the franchise.

Kylo Ren is your favorite character? Why? Again, he killed his father, who happened to by Han Freaking Solo, as a sacrifice to gain power.

Unless he was possessed I don't care what he did in the third act of this movie, you can't wipe that off the ledger.

I mean I thought he was a cool character, not that I like the guy personally!

Seriously, what is cool about the character? He's a petulant narcissistic whiner. And a power mad sociopath.

The best part of Kylo Ren was when he had his teenager tantrums in the first movie, especially, where he totally trashed a place if he got some bad news.

And it was 100% in character when he smashed up his helmet in TLJ. To suggest that Abrams tried to walk back this moment in ROS is just plain silly. He wears the helmet in three or four scenes before he removes it again for the rest of the movie.

Kylo Ren was cool, he kills it at DisneyWorld.

just went again. I was reminded of the fact that you can see snoke in a tank in the first opening sequence when Ren finds Palpatine. I’m surprised on one has talked about that. Either that or I missed it.
Also, the classic “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” said by Lando was great, but no one ever says “may the force be with you”. That’s a first in the saga, I’m a little disappointed.
