Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

Snoke or Snope or whatever sucked. Kylo Ren would have been cooler if he was just a completely untethered wild card.

He sort of is. I like that he is conflicted and somewhat unhinged.

Yes but he’s almost comedic relief and a joke to those under him. It’d be better if he was a ruthless, completely lost version of Vader

Episode 7 wasn't a great plot -- and was almost a shot by shot remake of Episode IV in terms of major plot elements -- but it was fun and suggested that even more interesting things were to come. More importantly, it signified that this new direction / new characters could work.

Episode 8 was a complete train wreck. I agree with HoustonCuse that essetnailly Rian Johnson squandered 1/3 of this trilogy.

Hopefully the next one gets things back on track, but that's no guarantee. Time will tell.

In thought Kylo Ren sucked.
Might be because, for me, the actor did not fit the character.

Force Awakens is clearly the best Star Wars saga film. I say that because if you consider the film making, special effects it crushes all the original and prequels (just by sheer advancement of the craft), by acting it beats the prequels and by story I think it is up there with any of them. I understand some feel it was derivative but for goodness sakes it is the 7th sequel!! I really enjoyed the characters, I put Ep 7 Kylo Ren up there with Vader as a cool bad guy character and also I like the mystery aspects as to his origin, Rey and Finns background. I have high hopes for 9 but also worried there is no way to satisfactorily wrap all this up. I feel that narratively, Rian Johnson really wasted 8. Wish Abrams had gotten all 3 of the new ones.
My only gripe with TFA is the end when Finn fights Ren. First the dialogue is ridiculous. Second, the fact Finn can control the lightsaber and hold his own for a bit against Ren, ridiculous. Third, why Ren didn't use his force powers to just eliminate Finn as a threat right away (I know, it's a movie). That ending just was too much for me, personally.

I'm with you. Couple points I have seen made from those who have read the novelization of the movie, which includes a little more data: Finn was supposedly an elite storm trooper in his days with the first order. So he did have training with similar weapons and had much combat training. (How that synchs up with him being in "sanitation" I don't know).

Also Kylo Ren was seriously messed up during that fight and the subsequent fight with Rey. The Han Solo incident that had just transpired was supposed to supercharge his powers (from a dark side point of view, as in Vader's first assignment to go wipe out the younglings was intended to "power him up" - and it did work for him), but instead it had the exact opposite effect on Kylo, weakening him.

Additionally he had just taken a direct hit from Chewy's bow caster which they had spent substantial effort throughout the film making sure you knew that was a super powerful weapon.

All that said, I'm not really disagreeing with you because it does seem that he should have dispatched Finn and Rey with virtually zero effort. But it would be a short trilogy if that happened!

Hey I assume most of you guys are pretty big fans. I thought I'd share this. It is a fan made mini-movie imagining the life of Darth Vader in the months after pledging allegiance to the Emperor.

Don't let the term "fan made" turn you off. This is a high quality production and is made by one of the leading Star Wars people on the interwebs. I understand it was praised pretty highly even by Lucasfilm (although it remains unsupported by them). Part two is in work, but the maker is having to raise money as Lucasfilm stipulated the film could not be revenue generating while using their intellectual property (the characters/world/etc).

It's less than 20 minutes. I think you all will like it:

Very curious what it is that Rey and Kylo are destroying together in that one shot.

Hard to say, but from my perspective it looks like Vader's mask on a pedestal.

It looks more like they are fighting and whatever gets destroyed is from an over swing by Rey.

Looks terrific. Too bad 1/3 of this trilogy was squandered, but it looks like this series of movies began and will end on a high note.
Episode 8 literally did nothing for story.
Episode 9 atleast is trying to do right by the franchise story.

C3PO probably has something stored in his mind and is scared.

He has the time spent with Vader as Anakin during his Palpatine ‘education’ that was ‘wiped’ by Leah’s Dad Jimmy Smits.

They’re reseting him in hopes they can get to the time before it was supposedly erased and learn how to defeat him.

3Po will have no memory of them.

Prob a pretty good call

Not a Star Wars fanatic but I’ve watched the recent ones. Some of my friends are diehards and really don’t like what “Disney” has done to the franchise. Very critical of ep8 as it sounds many in here are too.

My prediction is Rey is going to end up as relative as Palpatine. She will kill Palpatine with Kylo.
C3PO will be deactivated.
Rey will marry Ben and become a Skywalker. Thus the rise of the Skywalker.

Interesting theory.

IMO: she is someone for sure.

maybe one of the kids who Ben was supposed to have slaughtered, but she wasnt there or escaped or was a little sister. something, is not being told. she was given to Unkar for a reason.

He clearly did state though that her parents were not in VII. So Han and leia and Luke are out.

there is a shot of c3po somewhere with red lit up eyes. That worries me. My buddy thinks the emperor takes him over. I hope not that sounds hokey.

Or Kylo was lying to manipulate Rey.

There has to be some connective tie that binds.

I think the red eyes will be because they need him to read a Sith scroll and it will cause changes to him it.

My thought on her is that she is Obi Won’s granddaughter. The Emperor knew this, went after and killed her mother & father and somehow Luke got her out and placed.

Disney is now doing a series on him, they could tell the backstory now and show how it develops there.
