You’re absolutely right. The only difference is the time they spent together during New Hope. We haven’t had that in the new trilogy yet. I can’t blame Johnson, as he had nothing to do with Force Awakens. If people want to criticize him for taking all of Last Jedi to reunite them, that’s fine. Not sure what he was supposed to do, though. He could have had Poe and Finn on a mission together, sure, but Rey needed to be off on her own and she had a lot of literal and figurative ground to cover.
 
BTW, Abrams is previewing a scene from the movie within Fortnite at 2pm Eastern.

Johnson gets a lot of hate but he made a better movie than any of the prequels or jedi. Only Empire and New Hope were better imo.

Tell me the story of The Last Jedi?
It boils down this for me.
The first order is chasing the rebels.
Space Leila Poppins occurs.
Rey has to deal with emo Luke. When Luke was a New Hope.
Poe commits treason because Laura Dern wouldn’t tell the leadership her mystery plan.
They had to introduce greed is bad at the casino and child labor is bad with Rose and Finn.

The chase to the Hoth planet was stupid.
Snoke got killed with no story at all.
Ten people from the rebellion survive thanks to Luke sacrificing himself and Rey overcoming Kylo.

The story was just pointless for a trilogy. It didn’t advance the story from the first movie at all.

I didn’t hate the movie, but hated parts. That casino crap and the political undertones were ridiculous.
I think more than anything else, the iritation comes in knowing now that JJ had some things for johnson to keep story going that he disregarded.

Agreed. I also can’t stand the opening scene with the bombers that move 2 mph and then drop gravity-assisted bombs...in space.

I am generally entertained by the Last Jedi, but I can’t say that I liked the story that was written for it and plot trajectory.

Well it appears JJ wanted to make a narrative money to fix episode VIII but if what I heard happens in the end thank you Star Wars for 3 original masterpieces, 3 mediocre prequels, and a final awful trilogy.

Kathleen Kennedy go to Marvel. Those movies can't be ruined. Identity politics it appears is the narrative. Which is fits in with 2019.

Saw that too. I have some diehard friends who are very excited for this movie but also skeptical due to E8. I was never a star wars guy but I see them as it entertains me. I am a huge LOTR guy.

As they were at exactly this point for Last Jedi. The reviews (twitter reactions from insiders who got to see early runs pre release) were so over the top for Last Jedi it seemed too good to be true... and it was. Doesn't mean this movie will be poor, but it also means zero with respect to how good it will be.

My cousin saw it last night in LA. Works for in Hollywood for WB, grew up a Star Wars fan and went to USC because of Lucas. Told me it basically cuts TLJ out and the story goes 7-9 wishes it there was a 3rd movie to go with it.

Told me the ending and I was pissed.

I go to a movie for entertainment. I don't want politics/narratives in a movie. That is why. The movie is better than TLJ I won't say anymore.

Heard similar feom two friends. Going thursday... we shall see. The plot i was told seemed so all over the place it was giving me a headache.

my question would be what number or people went to TLJ and came out of it thinking it was political ? I didnt know until i read these type of boards that I was supposed to have that take on the movie and some scenes. and now a couple years later couldnt begin to remember what political take i missed in watching in 2-3 more times.

The casino scene was obvious greed is bad and a shot at the 1%.
The child human trafficking was obvious as day as well.

They didn’t even hide that stuff.

Plus they made Luke was a New Hope into a bitter emo.
