Does Pittsburgh Steelers Talking With Louis Delmas Spell Trouble For Shamarko?

ESPN was speculating not too long ago that Polamalu is on his way out in Pittsburgh, so to me it feels like this spells trouble more for Troy than #SHAMARKO!

Pittsburgh needs to get younger on defense, I don't think shamarko has to worry.

Shamarko is supposedly being groomed to take over for Ryan Clark, so this move would signal to me that it's an insurance policy for Polamalu. Delmas isn't exactly a huge talent that's gonna cost them a lot of money to sign.

Polamalu hasn't been playing at a high level for a few years now. He's always been overrated because people love that run stuffing Safety. But the guy gets exposed often in the passing game, especially on play action. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets the Ed Reed treatment once he gets cut (bounce around for a few teams that take a flyer/realize he's a shell of himself).

The Steelers selected Syracuse safety Shamarko Thomas with the 111th pick. Cleveland’s pick in May will be No. 83.

Thomas (5-foot-9, 217 pounds) was bothered by an ankle injury, started two of 14 games and totaled 29 tackles. Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert, who called the upcoming draft the deepest in his 30 years, was asked how he’d grade the trade.

“Shamarko Thomas (was) a safety that we felt was worth a third-round pick. We’d do it again today,” Colbert said. “But the result was the 8-8 (record), and we’ll see whether Shamarko can help change that. If he does, it was a good deal. If he doesn’t, it wasn’t.”

Polomalu overrated? That is crazy talk. He actually played really well this past season after two injury riddled seasons. My guess is that he will be a Steeler next year. As for Shamarko, he is still thought of as Troy's eventually replacement. The Lions didn't really label their safeties and if Delmas signs with them he will be there more likely for Clark.

With Clark on the way out, they need to bring someone else in at least for depth. I suppose "trouble" could mean a few things. If trouble means he'll have to fight for a starting job then, maybe, but wouldn't he be expected to compete for a starting job at this point in his career anyway. If trouble means roster spot then, probably not. Clark leaving leaves an opening that has to be filled by someone.

I don't think Shamarko is anything more than a ST and nickel/dime package guy. Nothing wrong with that, but his size (height) is a liability in the NFL. Hope I'm wrong on this, but I don't know that he's ever going to be a starting safety on a contender.

Delmas?!?!?!?! The guy can barely play 1/2 of a season and isn't worth the paper his contract is written on. We'll take Shamarko in Detroit instead at least he will show up and play. Knee issues have plagued this guy for 2 years with no signs of improvement. He skipped just about every practice last year as a precaution, I'm glad the Lions are using his salary more wisely.
