SU NIL Budget

Interesting comments from Sampson … especially considering what that program has been the past decade.

Yeah, my first reaction was “cry me a river”, but I guess we’ll see in the upcoming years if these public comments help increase NIL funding for Houston or, if Houston is poor and declines, he can say he put out this warning.

I’ve been ringing this bell for a year now, there is no freaking way this NIL money keeps coming in. People aren’t going to pay a million dollars or more every year when they get no direct return out of it. I understand there is some emotional value but those who can afford to spend without a direct ROI will be very few and cannot possibly support 64 P5 level programs

The more successful your football program and connections to larger private capital or even NBA connections the more sustainable keeping a constant flow of funding.

Otherwise programs will have to live with a much more volatility year over year along with accepting a lower floor for expectations and a much more difficult task to raise their ceiling.

I actually think this is why ADJW is on the right path trying to find corporate money. Individual boosters are fickle and guaranteed to bounce at the smallest sign of a losing ROI.

Agree. Even as very small time donor to Orange United for a few seasons, I couldn't help but occasionally think "What am I doing here?"
