Summer Sessions 2025

They just closed the Luke Fennell recruiting thread.

The Instagram post that is the last post in that thread is worth watching.

Two thoughts:

1)Rob Harris is a different kind of person. I laughed... A lot.

2)Rob Harris has no concept of personal space.

3) His energy and the intensity is refreshing given at times this staff had some serious dead fish energy in the footage we saw. If we want to play fast and be aggressive there needs to be some real juice pushing that mentality not just lip service.

Everything physical lol

Donnie looks great. Has first-team ACC potential. Really excited about this group. They seem to have bonded quickly as well.

What gives me optimism and hope is the talent level and athleticism of the guys 4-10 in the pecking order. When camp starts etc we will see things play out but instead of feeling like guys 6 and 7 are hopefully adding value there is a lot to work with bunched up together after the top 3 guys( not to mention who is that third guy and the pecking order after Donnie is an open discussion too).

It’s not something that’s felt like a reasonable observation without being unreasonably optimistic in recent years but seems a fair and objective assessment right now.

I really hope that the staff is leveraging (within reason not to overstimulate) every professional resource and connection they have access to in order to improve and get the job done right this year given the talent they have to work with. No need to be public about simply just be as resourceful as possible in the drive for success.

curious about this as well

While not a freshman the guy im more curious about is Betsey and his development given the flashes at cincy and the obvious potential he has going back to prep. Womack is noticeably younger and has to add more good weight compared to his freshman peers but shouldn’t be anything but gravy in what he brings to the table.

Yup, v curious about Betsey for sure!

I think Betsey will be in the five player "6'8 or taller" position group with Souare, Kyle, White and Freeman. I'm curious to see how minutes shake out, since it seems we wouldn't want to play very long minutes without Freeman and one of Souare/Kyle out there.

I suspect we'll see three of them at once frequently.

The SF/SG group of Starling, Kingz, Anthony and Fennell will split time with the big men at the SF/3G position and George will play a lot of minutes at point.

It doesn't feel like Womack, Diawara or Zephir will play much. Considering how late Fennell arrived, I'm wondering if he's ceded a lot of his opportunity to Anthony, unless he can compete for minutes as George's backup. Fennell didn't look like any kind of point guard with the Australian National team a month ago, though.

A nine player rotation of Kyle, Souare, Freeman, White, Betsey, Kingz, Starling, Anthony and George looks like a really good squad to me.

Fennell plays hard on both ends and his outside shooting stood out in his time in the U19 championship games. I think he solidifies himself in terms of staying in the rotation all year long. I expect the 8.5 man rotation will have variance driven by matchups and commitment on defense even if it tightens up a little as the season progresses.

Also I think George leads in average minutes figuring around 33/34 mpg so having Fennell and JJ filling in during smaller segments should be fine. It doesn’t seem there will be many this year that are a liability with the ball in their hands.

Another thing I am curious to see is how we start games this year. The pick and roll/pop offense options are really solid as is setting up for a kickout 3 and then attacking matchups where we have a clear advantage. Pair that with pushing off of misses and makes alike given you have the speed and athleticism to do so. We shall see.
