Syracuse football not planning any MetLife Stadium games after 2016, according to official (PS)

Prolly because it's the bridge and tunnel version of ND fans but on TV it looked like a neutral site game. Either orange or random people in the crowd.

Righ. There was no green section. And the noise wasn't any different on TV.

Last year, PSU fans were louder on the tube.

yes it cheapens the product when you become known as the team that will play a home game anywhere. Home being the key word. Do you see any other team doing the same thing? Any team? It's football with a limited amount of games, having the home field advantage does make a difference and the whole point of it is to win games. How about we revisit the discussion when SU actually wins a game there?
I am pretty sure most fans outside of CNY even know and certainly don't care about home team designation. Most teams do not have the option of playing in NYC and it rarely cheapens anything to play in a big time venue for big time money. That point IMO is just plain bogus.

25,000 people can make a lot of noise.
Yes, they can, but I was referring to the ND noise which did not seem that loud to me. Cheers for our plays seemed about the same as theirs. Could be we are just a noisy bunch.

One thing the Dome can't duplicate is the tailgating scene and atmosphere at Metlife with 70k in the parking lots. Some of us were talking about how great it would be if Syracuse could have something similar...but we know that's never happening. Tailgating was so good yesterday, some of us didn't want to go in for the game.

I'll give you the big time money part of it, I think that was the whole point. Again though, football has a limited amount of games and I would think since the point is to win that you would want to maintain your home field advantage. A winning program brings people and high level recruits. A losing program does not, I don't care where you're playing.

It would have to be Skytop and that isn't in the plans.

Listen to what Fowler said during the pregame discussion he said there were more Irish fans.
Say Syracuse had 25k that leaves 46k Notre Dame and neutrals. I would bet 40k ND and 6k neutrals.
Our fans did a nice job but we were not the home team in the terms of numbers last night.
To crusty I would support every single Metlife game if it were like the Penn State game last year. That was not a Syracuse home game it was a neutral site game. If we could get Rutgers/Penn State/West Virginia to play us at MetLife as a neutral site game we should do it.

Ahem...perhaps you haven't been following the basketball side and monitoring what parts of North America are actually considered part of Syracuse?

;)

touche. It seems we have a lot of basketball thinkers in this forum

and I was saying that with sarcasm btw as I completely agree with you. I think with some SU fans they really believe what you're saying

The MetLife games may be more like neutral field than home field but they are certainly not away games. Personally, I think we just played tougher teams and losing had nothing to do with home field. Had we won any of those games it would have been on a bigger stage and that would have benefited the program even more.

Any team? How about ND. They have their "Shamrock Series". They are the home team vs BC in Fenway Park.

apples to oranges, Notre Dame has an exclusive TV contract and a nationwide following. As we experienced last night. But I'll give you a high five for finding another team that plays home games that are not really home games

Very true, it was a gamble the good Dr. went with and I'm not entirely confident that the end result has or will pay off. With the exception of the alleged pay day from MetLife

Are there more Orange fans in CNY or in the rest of the country?

At the time, we clearly needed the money and that was that.

Mid majors play their home games not on campus.
Northern Illinois has played home games against Wisconsin, Iowa at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Central Michigan played a home game versus Michigan State and Illinois at Ford Field.
East Carolina has played home games against Virginia Tech and South Carolina at BoA Stadium in Charlotte.
Washington State has played home games against Oklahoma State, Rutgers and Oregon in Seattle.
Syracuse has played home games against USC and Notre Dame at MetLife,
I wish we weren't on this list. All of the games I listed have been in the last decade.

If teams will play us in 1 time affairs at metlife like Penn State last year we should do it.
Even games at Yankee Stadium against Army should be explored.

I don't know why you leave ND off that list. I'll just assume that it was an oversight, though most would suspect a different motive.

Some SU fans complain about having to travel to NYC for a "home" game. Imagine having to schlep from Indiana to Boston or Dublin.

Who s saying Rutgers is moving games to Giants Stadium?? They sell out their 56k or whatever site nicely and regularly. They don't need a gimmick like SU does. If Syracuse isn't playing there, nd, Michigan & Ohio St will find somebody else to play there. NOT GOOD.
I know this is a message board but you have be most negative person on here. Don't watch Syracuse sports or football for that matter then.

The Shamrock Series started in 2009.
In 2009 they played Washington State in San Antonio
In 2010 they played Army at Yankee stadium
In 2011 they played Maryland at Fedez Field
In 2012 they played Miami at Soldier field
In 2013 they played Arizona State at JerryWorld
This year they played Purdue in Indianapolis.

Notre Dame hasn't played "home" games as neutral site games. These have all been 1 game affairs. Last year's Arizona State game was part of a 1-1-1 agreement and Notre Dame got Purdue to delay their annual series by playing a neutral site game this year under ND control.

Notre Dame doesn't give up home games they get opponents to play them in neutral site games. Miami,Maryland,Army,Washington State didn't play their home games at a neutral site these were games like last year's Penn State game a true 1 game series.

When the deal was inked we were on our way to becoming a mid-major in the AAC/BE.

All of these discussions are moot - it was money and exposure - at the time two things we needed just to survive. It was smart then and it's smart to stop now.

ND has more leverage than we do. We did what we did to survive.
