Doesn't say game. Says deal. The ND deal was 2 games. Nobody at SU has ever said for a single game. Maybe they should clarify but they won't. If we got $20m for 4 games. That's money. I'm skeptical NCAA's they always talk in terms of the deal.
I'm jus saying, if TGD is hellbent on having a game downstate, it's smarter to put it at Yankee Stadium than MetLife. Even better would be a 2-for-1 with Army.Who cares? Games should be played in the Dome. If we have 7 home games and another team is giving up a home slot, fine.
CuseOnly said:Has there ever been a neutral site deal more than 1 or 2 games? That you are aware of... Take what was said there and that Gross and Giansante said it was worth 10x what some bowl games are worth, I think we are barking up the right tree. They won't disclose because of the private university status blah, blah, blah... I know you want to argue the point because they won't disclose but as much as you don't want to believe it, they are more than likely worth more than you think and most likely by circumstantial evidence worth more than you think.
Full_Rebar said:Axe took Gross to task for that comment about people not understanding the data before making a judgement, and for not giving Neikam a definite answer when asked if SU was working on a new deal with MetLife or YS. Really called him out for hiding behind the private school designation, and for not doing a better job of telling the media/public what the MetLife deal was so people could form an opinion. Audio for Axe's show should be on the ESPN Syracuse website.
TheCusian said:So dumb. Gross can't give details of the deal. Why? Bad for business. Maybe MetLife said don't share the details, we don't want to pay UCONN the same when they come to negotiate. More great deals > informed public/media I really want to know how much an iPhone costs to make and what the markup is but Apple won't release the numbers! Axe thinks like a fan and not like someone who runs a business. In my business I'd be ticked if my clients compared numbers. It's private for a reason.
rrlbees said:Well they did hint at numbers by saying 5x a bowl and more than that $4.7 million game. So if you're not going to give details, why even say that? And it's not any private school stuff to say whether he's talking 1 game or a 2 game deal or a 4 game deal.
Actually Penn State was always the number one rival in football. Rutgers should always like an OOC game and never be equated on the same level.I would like to get Rutgers on the sched
#1 rival... like it or not
TheCusian said:They responded to the criticism by granting an interview where he clearly could go up to a certain line, but not over. Why? Why play coy under those circumstances? Lots to gain in public opinion. Would go a long way. Because they can't disclose the details of an ongoing deal, IMO.

Hinting and disclosing are 2 different things. Hell, I can't even talk about a manufacturer's new product with a customer until I have the customer sign an NDA. And I am not talking about millions of dollars in most cases, with these game deals, they are.
It is OK under most deals to say "well... it's more than this but it isn't quite as high as that" but not actually give the number.
To clarify what I was saying. If the majority of neutral site "deals" are one or 2 games where the number IS disclosed, like the Michigan vs. Alabama game (1 game "deal" I believe) at $4.7 mil. If Giansante says basically "our deal is the most lucrative deal at the time it was signed". Wouldn't it stand to reason that it was higher per game than that one particular game?
I do understand that what you are saying. If our deal was $15 mil for 4 games, it won't be per game as lucrative as the MI/ALA game on it's own. But that would be comparing Apples to Oranges. It also wouldn't be accurate to say that "Our deal is better than any deal at the time" making that comparison.

Gross talked after I among others called on him to do so a week ago. I doubt I had anything to do with it, but I hope my thread/messages gave some ammo for the media to ask Gross. The facts Gross have said in the media are talking points 101 that he wants in the media.
People can believe it or they can be skeptical as the information isn't complete. When your in for a penny your in for a pound in my opinion and Gross has never said if that fee MetLife paid us was for each game or the total deal. That is a simple question he could answer if he wanted to be transparent. Gross is no moron he knows a portion of his fanbase knows he made our football program look like a mid major by playing home games 300 miles from campus.
Most of the people debating me fail to realize this and That is what draws my frustration/anger. Gross loves those fans because they let him off the hook. These PR spin interviews are to try to rehab the information as much as he can without saying I took the money for home games. Go ahead with your positive spin I am glad you don't care Notre Dame has treated Syracuse football like we are Central Michigan because that doesn't matter to you.
Every program in the country could always use more $$$ what did that MetLife money do for the SU program. That money wouldn't have paid for the IPF as the BOT okay we within the year and that was with ACC 20 million dollars coming in annually these MetLife games wouldn't have covered the IPF.
Gross wants NYC games fine then get teams to play us 1 off in MetLife or yankee stadium. I highly doubt the terms of the contract were confidential as Grpss/Giancante have tried to tell us without giving a hard number because they want positive spin.
I would bet there is a confidentiality clause in that contract. TGD probability can't reveal the details.Your responses in these threads having me thinking you work for the SU AD. Nobody can do anything wrong.

TheCusian said:Exactly. If you think he was comparing the entire deal (3-4 games) to 5x a normal bowl payout - you're crazy. That would be: 1. A horrible deal 2. That you wouldn't brag about 3. and that you know you were being fast and free with the facts making people believe otherwise All signs point to it being a great deal for the university. People have to suspend a great deal of belief to come to another conclusion.
The deal is going away because either SU or. MetLife are pulling out. So I doubt keeping quiet matters now.No. It's as simple as looking at the facts of the deal. They traded a percentage chance at a win and the ire of the fan base for money and exposure. A lot of money. They said it was the best deal for this kind of game and that it helps with branding (i.e. at the time we needed the money and exposure). They can't disclose the numbers as it's an active deal. Not sure what else you want them to say. I love how people dog on Gross for talking points and sharing facts that only make SU look good. That's his job.
I don't work for the AD office and I don't think I'm claiming that they didn't do anything wrong. They clearly traded a % of a win in favor of money. I don't think that's a great deal and I'm glad they got out of it. I'm just saying that at the time, you take the money and the exposure. We needed both. With or without the paltry BE money.
I don't think it made them look bad - I think USC, Penn St, and ND looked at the deal as a team they knew they'd have an advantage over with a decent payout. But they'd know that they have an advantage over us in talent where ever we play them.
---
If you bought goods from a seller and they said "I can cut you a good deal on this" - you don't go mouthing the deal in the press, or the deal goes away. And the chances at a future deal go away too. Business.
---
Finally, I think the real reason you're mad is losing a home game. That goes for bees too. I get that. I really do. But in a quest to prove your point you've had to vilify and suggest that people are lying - when the truth is sitting there, plain as day. Sometimes as spade is a spade. Money and Exposure.
This is possible, but we don't know this and the SUAD has not stated this. Gross/Giancante have gone on the records with some very detailed statements. When you go on the record with the stuff Giancante said I doubt there is a confidentiality clause.I would bet there is a confidentiality clause in that contract. TGD probability can't reveal the details.
