I would agree, if that is still the issue. But, if it is, it is unlikely she changes her mind at this point.

You never know. Think about it this way. Say it is his mother who is blocking him from choosing SU. Then just think how stubborn TT must be to hold out this long with his desire to go to SU. Eventually, water will wear down even the hardest rock.

I fully agree with this which is why I have a really tough time believing that it's just two bulls (mom and TT) going head to head. This is also why an academic issue sounds much more logical. Yeah, I know, the word logical and this recruitment are two things that don't mix well. Sorry, I'll try better next time.

I was headed in the same direction, but Francis said it's not academics.

I was making reference to a quote from the movie Tomorrowland which is based on a Cherokee Indian story about two wolves.

Casey Newton: There are two wolves and they are always fighting. One is darkness and despair. The other is light and hope. Which wolf wins?

Eddie Newton: Come on, Casey.

Casey Newton: Okay, fine. Don't answer.

Eddie Newton: Whichever one you feed.

You know what is crazy about the movie Tomorrowland is Eddie Newton is played by Tim McGraw the singer. I did not know that. He does a terrific job playing Casey's father. I never made the connection.
And there's a kids cartoon based on this .. Miles from Tomorrowland, which is a 21st century version of the Jetsons.

I agree...the academic/summer class scenario seems to be a better explanation of why this is taking so long instead of the son vs. mother scenario. Actually it may have been both. To start it may have been the son vs. mother scenario, but that decision was made and then the class scenario came up and is now the hold up. Which would explain why he said he would have a decision immediately after the MSU visit, but the class thing came up and he had to delay until that was cleared up...Which is why I think Orangeman13 is correct for why there has been no announcement yet...which means SU is the winner, just waiting on the NCAA, as usual...

...none of which explains why he hasn't committed. Academic issues sound logical [as you say], but that wouldn't prevent him from pulling the trigger one way or the other.

I believe that the mother dynamic is much more figural than you suggest in this instance.

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”. I can't get over the fact that I come here every day hoping to find something different!

Anyways I think we can all use a chuckle. Every couple years my buddies and I rehash this phone call. If you have 4 minutes I highly recommend you listening. It should at the very least make you smile! Warning there is explicit language so be careful where you open. Also I apoligize if I am breaking any forum rules. I couldn't get into the pay side to find them!

I think Dave must work for ESPN when he claims Utica is NYC. No wonder people assume every game is a home game for Cuse!

Maybe either SU or TT or both decided to wait to announce until he has cleared the NCAA...Why announce when, at the moment, you know you are not eligible?

But with the NCAA sanctions and always down our backs plus the Diagne situation.. it is probably best for all to be in the clear before any official announcement. Any day now, right? Wishful thinking.

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”
This quote on the definition of insanity drives me nuts... if true, what is practice and repetition in sports? To get better at free throws in basketball, what do you do? You practice doing the same thing over and over again to create muscle memory, routine and familiarity, which in turn bring different and better results. This definition of insanity needs to be punched in the throat (not an attack on you Mstumpy50, just the definition in general)

I'd argue that's the expected result, so not insanity.

Again, none of that would prevent him from COMMITTING. Eligibility is an entirely separate matter...

But this isn't a situation where SU is not going to TAKE his commitment due to eligibility concerns and having him hold off from announcing.

But as ribeyes pointed out an academic issue doesn't stop you from committing, i.e, Diagne.

Conspiracy Theory: TT wants to commit to the Cuse, but he has yet to become eligible in the eyes of the NCAA. In order to get favorable treatment and expedite his academic ruling, he flirts with Michigan State and Seton Hall, knowing full well that if he committed to SU, he would be trapped in NCAA limbo and banished to the college basketball netherworld.

I was headed in the same direction, but Francis said it's not academics.

I don't believe that is correct. Unless I've missed something, Francis has only said that TT's mom had concerns. What those concerns were are anyone's guess at this point. I don't remember him saying that there isn't the possibility of something else that popped later in the process which is why I like the scenario that AFO painted below. That too would be my best guess... TT's mom had concerns and then the academic issue popped up.

I'd like to sign on the dotted line please.

It's correct, NN. I can't find it right now, but in a reply to one of my posts (link below) about the possibility that TT had unfinished/incomplete coursework at his prior school (St. Anthony's under Bob Hurley), Francis said that Hurley is infamously tough on academics and there was no way TT would be allowed to skate without completing coursework. The folks at Brewster also swear he's fine academically, so ... that's where we are (nowhere).

Here's my post:

I think I see it as you do, Dave. I am probably a lot older than you (74). My first wife (Italian) had a very controlling mother, so much so that we bought the house next to them. Yes, there was co-dependency in play...and I was too young and blind to recognize it. I am neither a psychiatrist nor a mind-reader, but this TT situation sure smells a lot like a battle for control to me. My first wife's mother could never let go...and my wife reciprocated. Sure, I could be wrong, and there will be those who admonish me for stating what I just did, but my gut is sensing the difficult struggle (for some) of "letting go". OTOH, the other side of me says " let's just hope he needs NCAA approval for that particular course". That's my contribution for today. I too, sense that something is coming within the next week. This is the 10th time I have had this feeling. Adios.

Ah, yes, you are right as I do remember that post now. Ugh... I'm not sure what to think now as the academic issue was the only thing that made any sense at this point.

"...definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”

I'd argue that practice is done with the expectation of different results (over time) — progress/development. So, that does fit the specious 'definition.'

Wait — what?

Ahhh...per Orangeman13 this is a class that was thought to have been cleared by the NCAA, but wasn't, so they got it cleared through the NCAA and he had to re-take it after it was cleared by the NCAA...also as far as academics his grades were good, just another one of those stupid NCAA hoops to go through...

No pun intended. :)
