GMac is good at his job??? His only two recruits have been Patterson (see how that worked out???) and Moyer (unproven). Hopkins and Autry are proven, tremendous recruiters. Look at the list of who they brought in. If you are not happy with an all SU coaching staff, and you want to shake it up, then you get rid of GMac.

This post is a disaster.

Recruits look at G-Mac like a brother. He's been building great relationships. And the jury is not out on Moyer. Moyer has already "proven" to be a huge boost to the program. Hell, Moyer doesn't have to do anything on the court to be considered a great get.

Fab Melo gave Fine a lot of credit for his development as well. A lot of post players in between showed improvement in their sophomore seasons, headlined by that go-to post move. They all learned it from Fine.

Respectfully... what was Fab Melo's frame of reference? A couple of years in a Florida high school?

My point is this: we do not ever know how well a position coach is doing. Some of our bigs developed as 'expected' but just as many did not. Some took quite a while, and some made significant jumps from year to year.

Yeah, it's nice to have an all alum staff. But, logically, it makes no sense for a guard to coach centers. Or vice versa. None. Maybe there has been no actual damage, but we don't know that and it's not an objective or rational choice to continue in that manner. Thst kind of thinking doesn't fly in any other arena where results are directly calculable, so why do we need to feel like we owe our guys the benefit of the doubt in such a critical component of our team? The best decision is unlikely to be the most sentimental.

So no comments that msu landed ben carter today

Who the heck knows how that will impact TT's decision-making. There is no rhyme nor reason to anything. As I've said before, I'm not worried about this recruitment one bit. If we don't get TT, we look elsewhere. It would be comical if he winds up at SHU.

Sorry, but guards CAN coach bigs. They have to learn, communicate and teach. Some players learn. Even those who learn can revert to what is comfortable and away from what is learned under duress. All coaching is incalculable to a degree. I trust the calculations of head coaches who work with assistants.

So if its not Seton Hall, who is standing in our way?

Why doesn't mom like us?

This post is a disaster.

Actually, you are incorrect. I am not the one who said that SU should shake up the coaching staff. The post I was referring indicated that they should get rid of some of the staff who were alumni, but noted that they would have to keep GMac. I was pointing out that GMac has not proven anything yet, but Autry and Hopkins are proven recruiters. The jury is out on GMac, I completely agree. He has yet to bring in a successful recruit, but time will tell. Moyer has potential, and he has been active with several recruits this year. The point was that he has a long way to go before you would ever keep him over Hopkins or Autry.

Recruits look at G-Mac like a brother. He's been building great relationships. And the jury is not out on Moyer. Moyer has already "proven" to be a huge boost to the program. Hell, Moyer doesn't have to do anything on the court to be considered a great get.
This is ridiculous. Moyer is a great get??? He has not even put on a uniform yet. We have no idea if he can play at this level He has been a great cheerleader, but it is not like he talked other recruits into coming to SU. Getting Battle was a great boost to the program on the heels of the probation. Whether Malachi leaves or goes, he has been an awesome boost to the program. If you notice, he was active with the recruits, and he could be a one and done.

I have determined that, at a minimum, one-eighty fifth of your entire post catalog has been devoted to trashing Gerry McNamara. You should feel bad.
You have to read the post I was responding before making comments. I'm not trashing GMac. The jury is out on him as a recruiter. He has not proven anything yet. He may turn out to be a great recruiting coach, maybe not. We dont know. The poster I was referring wanted to shake up the staff and get rid of the alumni coaches, but insisted on keeping GMac. Hopkins and Autry are tremendous recruiters, and GMac has not proven anything yet. Just responding to people looking at the SU world through GMac colored glasses.

How do you know how good his recruiting skills are? Have you seen him in action?

If you are referring to my post, I never said to get rid of anyone on the staff. I said when Hop takes over, I hope he adds one staff member who is a former big who may have recruiting ties outside of the usual areas we target.

Moyer stayed fiercely loyal throughout the sanctions storm, he has helped recruit some of our biggest targets, he has pimped our program on social media and in interviews and he has been a model representative of our school. He even selflessly drove to SU last weekend, for no other reason than to help us land some recruits for this coming year and 2017.

You're right, no value there.

He is also a HS state player of the year. That doesn't guarantee he will be great, but it is certainly a good start!

NEPSAC POY? I didn't know that. He is definitely Connecticut HS POY though.

Hmmm, you are correct after I googled. He was 1st team but Spellman was POY. Since the prep league spans all the New England states I suppose Spellman's team is from a different state.
