Taurean Thompson

I remember when Daryle Watkins committed to Syracuse. It was rumored to be down to SU and Rutgers. His dad apparently thought Syracuse was a better option and he steered him here. That caused the Rutgers board to go into hysterics, going so far as to make claims that it was "child abuse" for a parent to "force" a kid to go someplace he supposedly didn't want to go. The entire reaction was so immature, preposterous, and embarrassing for Rutgers fans that it has stuck in my mind all these years. Now I see our fan base getting danger close to acting the very same way. I'm pretty disappointed in what I've read over the past two weeks here.

Taurean may well end up going to some other school and if he does, he does. Take it like a man. If he commits to SHU, there are people here acting like it is the equivalent of him (or his mom) coming to their house, punching their baby in the face and pooping on their living room floor.

Also, please remember, he may very well commit to Syracuse. He may become your favorite player. He might be a hero winning us a huge game down the road. He may be remembered fondly as a key guy in a great stretch for the program. And you will be able to look back on all your immature whining posts disparaging him and his family for not announcing his decision on your selfish timeline.

I remember that well, I was pumped, and the Rutgers board was having a meltdown. There is a huge difference between steering your kid to go somewhere, and dictating where they go to school.

Also Tyus Battle - his folks definitely played a big role in his ultimate choice of SU - Mich fans were/are convinced "daddy" made the decision for him

I think it's more of a 'fine line' between the two, in the context of a family dynamic. It's a matter of 'influence,' one way or the other, and maybe it's up to TT to weigh the consequences.

I agree, but I'm assuming he is 18 and an adult. That's the issue. Once we knew the financial situations for my final two college choices, I had many talks with my parents on where to go. They finally told me to go with my heart. (I went to Syracuse of course)

I have said this before here I think, Syracuse was my dream school, its the only school I wanted to go to, and My mom didn't want me to go there. But at the end of the day she said it was up to me, and she would support me wherever I went.

;)

Personally, my issue here is one of frustration. I don't begrudge the young man's right or obligation to take his time and get it right. But as a fan of my beloved Orange, I find it hard to see this objectively- in my mind it's a no-brainer.
It's not my intention to dump on him at all, & if he chooses us, great. If he chooses SHU or MSU, we'd have to wish him luck in the horrible mistake he undoubtedly would have made. ;)
Either way, my POV is more about "make the decision, already", no matter what that decision ends up being. JMHO

So now the supposed SHU "domino" (which really wasn't) fell and still no movement either way. Only so much "due diligence" his team can do on a college decision this late in the game. Whatever is holding up his decision, I hope it works out for him in the end

It's such a cool place to be. I don't understand how anyone would not want to go there in a second with a fully paid scholarship. It's such a great experience to be at SU.

I just watched my niece go through the choice of colleges with her mom (my sister). What a battle it ended up being. She wanted to go to Tulane (full ride by the way) and my sister wanted her to go to Univ. Southern Cal. My sister wanted it to come down to her choice, but never could give in at the end because she was absolutely sold on USC being a great fit for her. My niece fought hard but what was supposed to be her choice, never was in the end. My sister didn't "force" her to commit to USC, but made it a Battle to go anywhere else. Finally, my niece just gave in to her parent's pressure. That said, it was still looked as though it was my niece's decision to go to USC (from people on the outside) but if you told her that, she would laugh at the notion.

Who knows what is happening with TT and his mom but whatever it is, man this is beyond getting old. I keep thinking to myself that there just has to be a good reason behind all of this because this has become nuts. If TT and his mom are at odds with the decision, what the heck does putting off the decision for months do? I can understand a delay but not this. There just must be a good reason for what they're doing because if it's just a disagreement about where to go, that's flat out insane in the membrane.

I certainly wasn't dealing with the factors involved in a high school recruit's decision on where to go to school, but I don't remember once thinking I should talk to my parents about which college to go to and don't remember them offering opinions. I knew my family's financial situation and decided to stick to the SUNY system based on that, then chose Oswego. Everybody and every family is different, but I couldn't imagine my parents being involved in the decision beyond "We can't afford that."

You must have some hands off parents? I can't imagine allowing my kid(s) to commit that much money, much of it mine, to an endeavor and not being involved in the decision making process. That's not to suggest that I intend to make those decisions for them, but I sure as hell am not going to allow them to make what I believe is a "bad" decision and piss all of that money away. Now who knows what you might consider a bad decision until you are actually faced with it.

Maybe TT's mom is looking at JB's two incidents with infractions, the Bernie Fine situation and whatever else and firmly believes that that isn't the right coach or atmosphere for her kid to be in. People see lots of different things when they look at a situation. When we see JB we see a guy who practically walks on water, that is not everyone's view of him. If she is skeptical of him and SU because of what she (mis)understands about some of those incidents, those (mis) perceptions may be next to impossible to overcome and she maybe absolutely resolute in her belief that its not the right place for her kid.
