We have brought in 7 transfers in two years and none of them have been difference makers. Davis has been ok. I seriously question what we are doing in our scouting.

Lampkin’s been good when healthy but definitely has limitations, but we knew that going in. Agree on Davis. Lucas has had his moments but will never be more than a backup.

Most glaring thing to me is that Red whiffed big-time on C going into his first season with McLeod and PG this season with Carlos, and we don’t have a C or PG signed for next season.

At the risk of being too pessimistic off an embarrassing performance I have serious doubts about Red’s ability to right the ship come portal time.

I haven't read much of this thread, but I will say, I've seen enough glimpses of these past few games...Red is completely inept at lineup management...He doesn't know when to pull a guy or put a guy in...He maybe too loyal to his guys...If I'm Red, I'm putting in Moore into the Starting lineup...If he doesn't see, he has to ride or die with Moore at SG, with JJ out, it's going to be a long season...Davis went for 22, and had a bunch of rebounds then didn't play for 2 games...He ran Eddie into the ground...Chris Bell has a shitty attitude some nights...I feel this team has a lot of nice pieces but Red isn't able to put the puzzle pieces together...I was giving Wildhack the benefit of the doubt, and I like Red...The past few seasons, I've posted about coaches like Dennis Gates, and Chris Jains who's at Miss St...Next hire has to be someone not close to program...I want Red to succeed so badly, but he has no offensive sets, and his guys play lack-luster defense...

What is most disappointîng to me besides the embarressing loss is that without JJ coach missed a perfect opportunity to see what Cuffe and Chance can give us in a competitive game. If we can even call it that?
Our chances to win that game were not looking too good without arguably our most important player. You have nothing to lose, so why play JC even more? 37 Minutes! More than anyone else by 6 minutes.
Give the players that havn’t played an opportunity! It makes no sense to give all the minutes to someône that has shown us what he can do, not much very well! So far anyways, I am cheering for him.
JC was not going to win us this game. Who knows what the other guys could’ve done?

Cuffe played 4 minutes! Had 2 standout plays and was pulled immediately after he passed it to Freeman who slipped so was a TO. I was slightly annoyed his steal was credited to JC who took the ball all the way to a missed layup when he had 2 guys in better position.

Cuffe's biggest issue is that he seems oblivious to people jumping into the passing lane. Every time he makes a pass I think it's going to be stolen. Bell is kinda like that too though. But he seems generally disinterested in playing solid basketball regardless - so it could have more to do with that.

However, you could just tell Cuffe:

Dribble up court and just hand it off to Moore, or, if nobody is around.....goooooooooo THUNDERDUNK!!!

It's still likely better than what you get otherwise. Certainly more fun!

Cuffe's biggest issue is that he seems oblivious to people jumping into the passing lane. Every time he makes a pass I think it's going to be stolen. Bell is kinda like that too though. For D alone not having such a negative on the court would take a lot of pressure of everyone.

Carlos gets abused so badly that every opponent even the LeMoynes of the world are guaranteed to put up 80+. If a guy like Bell or JJ start off cold it's automatically a long night and dogfight.

Yea, hes definitely not perfect. You have a good point but he might just need some game time to get comfortable. We may never know.
I guess my main point was to lets find out. In a game like todays, It was an open opportunity for a coach to see what he could do, we needed some sort of spark and the other option just wasn't making it happen. Like I said, he made positive plays in very limited time.
I just don't understand why a coach wouldn't let it ride when it was very clear what we were doing was not gonna win us the game or help us in the future.

Given his situation I can't blame Cuffe for the thunderdunk stuff, I feel its about making a statement or providing a spark or at this point sadly a straight up flip of the bird directed at coach.

Unless there is an obvious reason that us mere fans are not aware of...I might do the same. I mean the coach is literally ruining his college experience.

I conclude, Cuffe and Westry are in the doghouse for a damn good reason. But really how good could it be? They are eligible. If not for a damn good reason? Coach has gotta go. And I would have hired him. There is no explanation. Im literally confused.

Im trying to cope thats all. But seriously, If SU bball sucks my life wont suffer, however if they do great it is such an uplifting boost to the enjoyment of my free time. If we continue to suck I will have to find another boost.

What's there to question? The same dudes that have been doing our scouting the later years of the mailed-in JB era mostly all still coexist today, and got promotions and pay raises to boot! It really shouldn't be any surprise at all the results we have had...it has generally been the status quo, wash, rinse repeat for some time.

I have to say that I laughed out loud at that last sentance. First off, there are always reasons that the fans aren't aware of.

Second, his "college experience" is pretty much at the bottom of the things I worry about. He is getting a free ride through college and gets NIL$. He transferred once and has not really shown a lot at SU. Perhaps he would have had a better "college experience" had he dropped down a level in the portal.

He went from Kansas to Syracuse; I think he DID drop down a level.
