Terry Lockett out for the season

I blame HCDB after losing Cam Goode for not getting a one or two year stop gap reserve at the interior. A big difference between a 21/22 yr old vs an 18/19 year old

Listen at the 3:55 mark.

To think that somehow these coaches knew DL was a need but didn't do everything in their power to address the need is foolish.

I liked Dion's response at the time, and although hindsight is 20/20, I understand how we got here.

Sure, under the circumstances Cam Goode would appear to be a luxury at this point. But to think we didn't go all in on a player who ultimately decided to transfer to Michigan (not a bad school) only confirms one thing; we don't know what we don't know.

In four games, Cam Goode has played 31 snaps for Michigan. He played 4 snaps against UConn and graded out on PFF at 49.2.

In 4 games, Fuentes-Cundiff has played 27 snaps. He played 13 snaps against UConn and graded out on PFF at 48.6.

Maybe all the guys our coaches went after simply chose another school over Syracuse.

Maybe the players who that the message board experts thought would be the answer to our problems actually weren't the answer in the eyes of the coaches.

We don't know what we don't know. But it's never too early to start the blame game. Have fun with that.

Just on a whim, I checked out the Milford Academy football roster for this year. They seem to have the OPPOSITE problem as us -- they have two DTs on the team who are 6-0 346 pounds, and 5-11 400 pounds!

They do have a 6-8 290 pound kid from Tonowanda -- don't know if Money or anyone has insight.

I'm not sure they try moving anybody. I'm guessing they don't and roll with who we have considering they seemed more comfortable just keeping Darton in there instead of puting in the back-ups we have.

But if they do I would guess Mark Petry could be an option at 6'4" and 280 lbs. Seems to have the required size and potential athletic ability to make it work. Wes Hoeh possibly as well but he is obviously seeing time at FB.
Well, if they are going to experiment with anyone, this is the week to do it. Don’t want to try roll that stop-gap player out against NCSt cold.

Those are the only ones talked about. Along with Mesidor. There was more they went after.
Right these were the bigger names. I'm sure they went after more prospects and got to a point where what was available just wasn't an upgrade over what they had at the 2nd and 3rd levels of the roster.

We'll see what happens with Wagner.

And at the end of the day, we haven't (yet) lost a game because of it, so maybe it makes sense to actually lose first before all the hand wringing and finger pointing starts.

There was a D2 prospect from Cal poly, as I recall. But the kid opted to go to Vanderbilt for his Masters, tough to blame him.

People are freaking out because we have a good thing going. I get it but we went into the season with 4 guys for 1 position. Injuries can happen at any position. We lost Stef. Should we have gotten another LB? It's football. Injuries are part of the game. It just hurts more at DT because we were already inexperienced there. This scheme is unique and the DT's they could have gotten werent difference makers. The young pups just have to step up.

It certainly felt like we were getting gashed in the run game at the end of the UVA game but I will say for most plays it didn't exactly seem like we had many players at the point of attack to stop the run. Seemed like we were playing soft and playing the pass more. LB's were not shooting gaps on these plays. Seemed like Darton was pretty much the only guy there and he was going to get double and triple teamed. So hopefully the problem is less DT depth and more defensive play calling which is less concerning.

Or maybe this is me trying to talk myself into everything will be OK?

A perfectly reasonable take.

Sometimes you try everything in your power to pound the portal...but if the portal says no, what can you do?

That's why they have all those pay cable channels in the 1800's.

Cal Poly is actually a fairly high level FCS program
