I know everyone is upset right now, but I saw a lot of fight and hopefully the beginnings of an identity on both side of the ball. Lampkin and Davis play very well together. The offense needs to run through Lampkin and JJ needs to be able to attack off the bounce. I have more hope now to have a competitive season then I have all year. Im not big on moral victories but thats what this was, at least for me mentally

If Chris Bell isn’t hitting threes he’s not doing much. Carlos at least can handle the ball and play some defense.

It's not that he's not doing much, he's doing poorly at everything. Can't pass, can't defend, can't rebound and his mistakes cause other players to get fouled, turn the ball over or just kill momentum. This isn't about hitting shots, because when he does they still don't matter because of everything else. When he's not hitting them, we're playing in spite of him.

It was this close because Eddie went on his own little run and their lotto pick missed a ton of wide open shots.

Hard to feel any better about the season after tonight. I think Eddie fed off the crowd and Texas froze up a little —— but when it mattered at the end we looked lost

If you feel worse about this one than double OT to Youngstown state I can’t help ya. This is metric tons better than we looked before today.

The 3 biggest positives to me:

1) JJ was playing on BOTH ends. Thought he was great all around
2) Davis showed he can rebound against a higher level of play
3) Freeman can score. We need to get him more shots

Eddie was a positive as well, but he did what I expect him to do.

That one play in the bottom right corner when Bell could have either a) let the ball go or b) aggressively grabbed it with two hands, but instead he just casually reaches out with one hand.

Or just stopping on that inbounds play from Carlos.

Or not boxing out at all which Jay Williams rightfully chastised him for.

I know he'll occasionally go nuts from deep but he's not a winning basketball player.

I know Red wanted to stay with the lineup that had been hot, but we had to get Donnie back in the game. To lose with him playing just a few minutes in the second half really hurts.
Bell absolutely killed us with the turnovers and his refusal to rebound. If he cared as much about defense and rebounding as he does about celebrating, he would be a much better player. And he did jog back on at least three occasions.
Eddie was fantastic. Imagine what he could do if he was in shape.
JJ may have played his best game at Syracuse.
As I said in the game thread, Carlos has now choked at the line in three out of four of our games in the closing minutes. Bill should not have stopped, but Carlos can’t throw that ball unless he knows it will be completed.
Obviously, the free throws killed us.
But the important thing is that even though it was a painful loss it gave some hope and dignity to the season. Some of these kids can play and most of them play hard 100% of the time.

Agree with this 1000%. Bell, Carlos and Red lost us this game. Thought the coaching was very poor. Start the game flat and no intensity, come out the second half flat and no intensity. Playing bell the whole second half while he’s clearly playing awful, putting Carlos back in the game in crunch time. Not making the team go to Lampkin every single time down the court was absurd. Freeman being benched while he’s playing really well.

It’s coaching malpractice. How on earth does Red play Carlos at the end of this game?! How does hit not sit bell when he refuses to box out and go for the boards with turned the tide towards the end.

Where is the accountability? There is none. Red will prob be pissy in the presser because he knows his time is running out.

I would've taken Petar over Bell at that point.
