Texas Postgame

That one play in the bottom right corner when Bell could have either a) let the ball go or b) aggressively grabbed it with two hands, but instead he just casually reaches out with one hand.

Or just stopping on that inbounds play from Carlos.

Or not boxing out at all which Jay Williams rightfully chastised him for.

I know he'll occasionally go nuts from deep but he's not a winning basketball player.
The replays on the non box outs.

Those are BENCHING level plays. He literally stood there and watched

The 3 biggest positives to me:

1) JJ was playing on BOTH ends. Thought he was great all around
2) Davis showed he can rebound against a higher level of play
3) Freeman can score. We need to get him more shots

Eddie was a positive as well, but he did what I expect him to do.

Re #2, I thought Davis would struggle mightily against higher level opponents. It was really great to see him have a game like that tonight - it seems I may have been mistaken.

there are honestly no words for how awful a coaching decision it was to 1. Play bell 20 mins in the 2nd half and 2. Bring Carlos back in at the end of the game. Another abomination of a coaching performance.
red is really bad at deciding who to play throughout the game...which renders the greater depth this year not so beneficial

that game was there for the taking with better lineups and substitution patterns

red will figure it out later in the year...but he shouldnt really need months worth of games to know who to play and who to bench

he think he needs carlos and bell for th whole year and doesnt wanna damage their egos or whatever...its just dumb

Playing Chris bell the whole second half while letting Donnie rot on the bench was coaching malpractice. Again.

staff looks completely clueless.

It was this close because Eddie went on his own little run and their lotto pick missed a ton of wide open shots.

Hard to feel any better about the season after tonight. I think Eddie fed off the crowd and Texas froze up a little —— but when it mattered at the end we looked lost

You read the post about Donnie having his right wrist all taped up in the 2nd half.

The trainers were looking at him before halftime.

Same, totally accepting the L if he continues.

McLeod didn't look terrible when he was on the floor either. Really not sure why he didn't at least get a couple minutes in the first 3 games.

The reality is this Texas team is decent but not great and we are happy that we were competitive. I could see us losing to TTU or St Joes easily tomorrow night. Then there is the trip to Tennessee coming up followed by a good Notre Dame team. Sure we looked better than we did against 3 cupcakes, but I really don’t see it with this team. I can love the effort, but the product is bad and I don’t see this team making the tournament.

I think this loss has vindicated what Bulldog04 stated in regard to what he saw in the preseason. Obviously the loss is a tough pill to swallow, but they showed some real toughness on the defensive side of the ball for the first time all year. Even though he wasn’t much of a factor on offense, Lucas Taylor played himself into more minutes moving forward. There’s a physicality that makes me think we’re better equipped to deal with some of the teams we’ve struggled with in years past. I understand Red’s thinking in wanting to keep Jyare in the game because of the run we were on, but Donnie is too talented to keep on the bench for that long, especially considering how well that experience would’ve served him later in the year. JJ isn’t perfect, but I think we will be dangerous if he keeps being this aggressive. Lampkin is the heart and soul of this team so far.. it’s hard to deny that. A frustrating loss, but there’s reason to believe our best ball is ahead of us. Go Cuse

You can crap on Bell all you want. I don’t even blame him. If you give an arsonist matches , it’s your own dang fault. Until there is any consequence to him setting fires, he is going to continue to set them. I blame daddy for not securing the matches

They better get this free throw issue sorted out, or it is going to lead to at least a handful of losses, if not more.

I’m glad they finally played with some life for the first time this season.

The team is clearly Starling and Lampkin, with a few other guys contributing.

Carlos needs to be a rotation guy, not a starter. 15 minutes.

Bell shouldn’t be getting 30+ minutes unless he comes out blazing from 3. He’s a net negative when he’s not shooting well.

3 hours ago many thought this team might struggle to win 10 games. We didn't know if we could compete with the mediocre (bubble teams). So the fact they competed in the 2nd half and there were positives, give some glimmer of hope for the season.

I am somewhat getting a benny vibe from bell this year
Something ain't right with him. He has a lot of tools & all the opportunities, but the effort isn't there. Just needs to give a lot more effort & I think things would go much better for him.
