The 2021-2022 Portal Cup

Crazy, they were pretty excited about this dude.

21 more players in the portal today. It’s crazy how many players are giving up a guaranteed scholarship for a chance at more playing time. When the music stops there are going to be a lot of players standing without a chair. There are more players in the portal then available spots. It’s unfortunate that a number are leaving really good academic institutions without graduating for the possibility of more playing time a less prestigious university. They are adults so this will be a hard learning lesson for some.
The biggest problem is most of these players aren't going to play in the NFL. They need the education and contacts from college to advance in their future jobs. A lot of them won' t get their degree, many will have to pay out of pocket like normal students.
They might end up with student loans like normal students.

I am noticing more kids withdrawing their names from the portal and staying at their school.

When the narrative is that the scholarship isn’t worth anything and you are being exploited otherwise, is it any wonder they treat it so frivolously.

Day after the big game, 7 Alabama players entered the portal including their pre-season all SEC tight end who wasn't even the starter. Not that we are getting any of them but interesting to see the types of players that are available.

I think over time when so many prospects are left without a home you'll see future players be a bit more judicious about entering. Right now it's the hot thing to do but over time it will even out.

Agreed. Also, these are student athletes who clearly didn’t go to college for the educational side of things although it would be heartwarming to see kids entering the transfer portal in an attempt to get into educational institutions they could not have coming out of high school.

Best guess on the percentage of players nationwide who have entered the Portal but now have withdrawn that decision and plan to return to their original school?

That's only one datapoint. How many of those who have decided to withdraw from the portal will be accepted back by their original school?

Georgia defensive back Latavious Brini is in the transfer portal. He started 11 games for the national champions and recorded 38 tackles and eight pass breakups

"Nebraska's quarterback room transformed through the portal since the end of the season. Adrian Martinez transferred out, Texas QB Casey Thompson and FSU QB Chubba Purdy transferred in. A lot more competition there now."

"#UCLA adds wide receiver Jake Bobo, a transfer from Duke who had 794 receiving yards on 74 catches last year. Has 106 catches the past two seasons.'

Glad Chubba found a home. Would rather have Dan. Get the strong feeling Chubba is going to end up playing for 3 or 4 college teams before he is done.

Think he is a traveling man...

It would be nice if Chase transferred to Duke and completed a rare cross country trade between P5 teams.

Weird decision for either QB to transfer in to compete against each other when they've likely left similar situations.
