The all-inclusive Cuse Coaching Thread

Money and P5.
so you want a long time coach, that no other P5 program has wanted.

and you want to throw $$ at him to come to Syracuse.

gotcha.

Where do you think they should be looking for Candidates?
Fuentes
Rhule
Herman
Holliday
Babers
Carey
PJ Fleck
Clay Helton (USC OC IHC)

Offensive coordinators from the Big 12.
Scottie Montgomery Duke OC
Mike Yurchich OSU OC

Big wide world out there.

why would those coaches need a job??

This is such a dumb question. I'm not actively looking for a new job after just taking the one im at 14 months ago. But rest assured, if i got a message on my linkedin or if a colleague at a competitor called me up and said they had an opening that im a good fit for and they are offering X amount of money, why wouldnt i listen?

I am not in favor of trying to find anymore diamonds in the ruff. I want to see real depth of experience under successful coaches. If you want a guy from ODU and Maine, more power to you.

Where did I say that?

If you do your homework your odds increase at finding diamonds. Going retread means you get proven something at the expense of upside.

Herman is basically the hottest coach in America, Fuentes and Rhule would be tough gets and probably not possible. Others definitely worth a look. I don't love them all but certainly wouldn't rule any out.

I want Babers as the next HC. Bigger isn't always better and I would prefer HC experience over hot coordinator

Wait - you've been using Pete Carroll references, but this is your list?

I think we largely agree. Sorry for misinterpreting.

Fuente and Herman are pipe dreams as they will have all the big guys after them. Clay Helton is a glorified special teams guy who lucked into the USC job with all the issues but he is not thought very highly of within coaching circles but the rest of the guys are all good names and will be the type of guys we will gauge interest in.

How come there isn't any love for Jeff Brohm?
- Petrino protege
- current HC
- former OC
- played QB
- eastern ties

I guess that us partly my point. If you want to be a big guy you have to go after big guys. If we are willing to cough up $2.5 - $3 million and get rejected fine, but they should be at the top of our list. All the nonsense I hear attributed to the BOT is just talk until they start writing checks.
I heard that "we are committed" talk all to often in business. We are committed to building (fill in department).
We'll meaning, but when it comes time to play they blink, go cheap and hope. Then when the going gets tough, they fade to Bolivan.

It has been decades of SUAD and BOT indifference. Pardon me for wanting to see action rather than words.

The "list" looks like more fire and hope we hit something to me.

Time will tell. I have waited this long, I can wait a bit longer, but I am buying a fishing rod just in case.

I'd be thrilled with any of these, fully realizing they won't all be available, particularly the top two. I do think at least one of these will be available and they each give you HC success and basically all give you high scoring offenses, which brings excitement and attendance-I'm looking at you, Mr. Coyle. Soocher, tell me we're looking at Babers.

We are looking at him along with the other Mac guys who have had success the past few years. I love Babers and where he has been big thing with him though is that he never seems to stay long at one spot but the guy can certainly put up some numbers.

You talk as if an active search is already under way, in which case Shafer would certainly know.

Thank you for all the "inside information" much appreciated!

I really hope HCSS sticks around, just so I can see the heads explode on the board. I'm still reserving judgment on whether he should stay or go until after the last game. there is a lot more than wins and losses although I must say I'm quite frustrated.

What would convince you one way or the other?

It is under way but one of my first few posts says that something huge has to happen in the next three weeks for change not to be made. Just bc a formal search can't get started until a coach is fired doesn't mean that Coyle and the bot don't have a list of names put out there because they already do. I'm not the only one who knows this trust me others just don't want to get involved with what they have heard because I've gotten messages with the same names and same info as I was given so it's definitely picking up steam the past few weeks.

It's a good question Crusty, I think lack of effort and serious regression of the players. I expected a little bit since we are playing so many young players and they will be worn down. I need to see progress and at the end of the season I will put the cards on the table and see what we have. There are a lot of things that do impress me about the staff that I value highly. SU announcement about the future of the Dome will impact my thoughts as well. Timing, etc.

I am not doubting you. Just making sure I understood accurately.

I know that. You have been around long enough to know how things can change daily when it comes to this type of stuff just thought it was a good post to elaborate about things and names are constantly changing but wanted to point out how some of the people in the know around here have heard the same thing lately. One other thing that was told to me was that Coyle has reached out to tons of past football players trying to get them back on board and making it known that he needs them.
