The center mystery

No one remembers this, but Anselem should/could be in HS right now. Not that it matters, but he was a top 50-60 player in the Class of 2021. But he moved up and finished as a Top 150-ish recruit in the Class of 2020.

I am glad/thrilled he's here. But he won't help anytime soon. Next year I would think.

These type of moves (and others) are prime examples why the quality of CBB has dwindled in the last 10-12 years.

This basically is a redshirt year for him, but I have high hopes.

Evaluated and offered all these guys.

Didn't get commitments from any of them.

Maybe we needed a bigger bag?

A lot of these guys have done very little in college.

Coffee is for closers.

BTW, I floated this a few weeks ago, but I'm surprised we haven't tried a lineup of the below for extended periods:

Kadary
JGIII
Buddy
AG
Q

Reason I say Q at the five is he's just a bigger body and can rebound more naturally.

Now, I get we are making the wings worse on D (AG bc he floats in and out of games and Buddy because I think the wings have a bit too much ground to cover for him to be comfortable, but he isn't short), but that puts out guys that can knock down the three with Kadary, puts Q closer to the rim and it *should* allow Buddy, JGIII and AG more space for catch and shoot.

I know this pulls Marek off the floor, but Q is our best player and we need a true PG and the other guys can hit shots given the right circumstances (ie - playing with a point guard).

And that's not even all of them. Sigh. Jessie Govan from Buffalo went to G'Town and had a nice 4-year career. James Banks from Georgia had a nice couple of seasons at G'Tech. Thomas Bryant and his mom ...

Yep. Missed out too on C Osun Osunniyi to the Bonnies. The frigging Bonnies! Ugh!

BTW...why is it snowing on my computer screen. :)

That would be interesting to watch but that lineup gets murdered on the glass haha. I'd be interested in something like

Kadary
Buddy
AG
Braswell
Q

Still undersized but there's some athleticism and shooters on the floor for spacing.

I'm with you on the above lineup if it were up to me.

I should have been more clear - I was trying to shake things up using the guys that JB seems to already play.

I would love to see the lineup outline above. That frontline would be fun and I think Buddy would get some killer looks.

Here comes some sacrilege. Why would any good high school 5 go to SU to play for JB?
It takes good players 2 years to learn where they are supposed to be in the zone and the rotations. Some guys never get it.
The 5 is almost never included in the offense except for put backs. In the last 10 years there have been 2 seasons where a 5 did any scoring. Christmas his senior year and Lydon who was really a 4 with skills playing the 5. The other 8 years -- near zero. By design apparently.

JB recruits defense first with centers. Offense is just a bonus. That’s just what he does.

Then he plays his undersized PF’s at center because he hates his centers ability to provide no offense.
If he had a current center that could play D, rebound, set picks, with little scoring, he'd play one.

Another example of why the next coach has to be outside of the JB tree, different eyes to evaluate differently and make a different pitch

They don't...for the obvious reasons you've pointed out. As Extreme showed, just look at the plethora of centers we went after, and hard at that, due to our obvious needs and shortcomings. I mean, the high probability that many of those dudes could've come here and started right away, however, said thanks but no thanks, clearly speaks for itself and is quite telling.

In regards to our guard issues, that's a bit more of an enigma as to why we haven't been able to land a true point guard since Ennis. We have missed on a lot of those too. Silent G worked out well, but he wasn't brought here to play the point, it was by necessity and we were quite fortunate how he was able to adjust and have the skill set to be productive there. We landed Carey, but it didn't take too long to see that he wasn't PG material with his lack of handle, etc., at least not at the P5 level. We landed Richmond kind of by default after being spurned by Andre Jackson. And as mentioned, unless we go after another guard in the spring recruiting period, or bring in some transfer type, we'll have the same situation next year as well. I'm high on Richmond at PG as many here are, and I think he could finally be the guy we've been searching for, but JB's stubbornness with his son, rotations, etc. doesn't make me too confident that much is going to change on this front either.

Seems to recruit foreign guys who haven't played a lot of bball so have a weak bball iq and aren't particularly good on either side of the floor. At least thats what the last 5 years of centers on the roster tells me.

Sidibe was the incumbant who looked to be primed for a big senior year as the starter.

How can you recruit against that?

you get projects/players who are okay with knowng they wont start...hence, jba, frank, edwards...

you arent gnna get 4/5 star centers to come in and ride the bench all season.

With him injured, it has blown up against the team.

conSIDering his injury history, was a gamble (that didnt pay off)...but not realy much of a mystery.

I love sidibe but he isn't shaq. He's has a history of injuries and foul trouble. Any halfway decent center would be getting big minutes right now.
