the crane the crane

Two more lengths of the long white steel tubes that appear to be part of the top ring of the crown truss arrived this morning and have been stored. These were placed in a different area parallel to Irving Ave.

I think they are shorter than the first three. I am thinking these things will correspond to the distances between the support columns for the stadium and there will be 32 of them, matching the 32 support columns.

The distance between most of the support columns is the same, and shorter than the first 3 of these to arrive. I think the first 3 are going between the columns that span the 8 'corners' of the Dome, where the diagonal walls meet the walls that run north-south or east-west. Since they were the first to arrive, I suspect they will be the first to go up.

I found a tidbit on the schedule in a DO article from last month. It says the crown truss is expected to be completed in January. So they are apparently going to be putting this thing together in very tough conditions.

That timeline makes a lot more sense. Heck, I don't see where any of the temporary brown steel for the west side/south west side of the stadium has even arrived yet. They have a ton of work to do.

A flatbed just drove up with two more of the white cylinders. They're off loading them on the side due to lack of room in Walt's yard

I think I see more webcam action watching my newly planted Redpointe Maple blow in the wind.

These are smaller ones as well. There are actually 36 supporting columns, not 32. I think that means we are going to see 36 of the white cylinders.

Time will tell.

I found this article on the original construction of the building. It has some nice nuggets in it.

Great article!

1) Engineers are smart.

2) I'd always wondered why the box columns aren't flush with the ground and don't appear to be totally integrated with the foundation. The place is designed for the roof to accommodate stress by the columns moving radially. Fascinating.

then don’t watch it

Tomcat - Really good article!
Where do you think they are going to put 36 of those babies? They'll either have to find room on the other side of the Live Cam view - Walt parking area or actually begin installing the columns so they'll continually have room as the columns go up space is made for the newly arrived ones. Yes, No?

I am not a Hayner Hoyt engineer so I don't have a daily construction schedule and do not know when the columns are due to go up - which I think we all should be supplied with a daily schedule. Take down the current Cam and put one up that has a zoom lens. Just push down your + or - key and there you go, along with a list of what they are doing supplied by Hayner. Run through Newhouse, a narrator would say what they were doing that day hooked to syracusefan.com, click on daily schedule and the date is there. Cool, I am glad that is coming because someone very close to the Chief Information Officer has asked for it. Hey, this is a once in a lifetime experience. We should all be able to enjoy a full spectacle with all the trimmings as we progress through the holidays. Wonder what Pete Salas extension is? I'm sure he'd welcome - oh, I forgot the audio from Walt's cab so we would be able to hear communication as well. Now what was that number again? :)

would it hurt ti have a weekly update of some kind. it doesnt even have to be day to day correct, just rough stuff like this week we are hauling crap in.. this week we hope to install something. its been pretty vague even what kind of schedule they will be keeping onto the winter.

I agree, more information would be greatly appreciated. I know people from the SUAD read the board. I am sure some involved with the renovation are reading this thread and checking our reaction as events ensue. So to the overlords, can you please provide more info on the build schedule? Could another streaming camera be set up looking at the eastern side of the stadium? And yes, if there could be zoom features added, that would be grand!

I am sure the good people at SUAD want the fans to be interested in the project and they should want them to get excited over some of the things coming. A little more info would benefit everyone.

The roller coaster is either a Pratt or a Howe truss and I assume the location where the vertical connects to the bottom cord will be a pin connection (meaning it will be a bit like a door hinge and allowed to move.) No information, but I assume the rust colored triangle is an outrigger meant to have a wire attached at its outer most point and extending to the top of the early inward tilting vertical element of the truss or to the center of the top cord (the high horizontal piece). They will build out from there until they complete the oval and can load the truss.

Most work is going on in the other side. Just because there’s not a cam on that side doesn’t mean nothing is going on. Except for a couple windy days and when they have an event at the dome, they’ve been doing work every day.

Looks like a shaft might be being lifted right now

So two more of the extra long white pieces arrived at the waiting area on Irving but these were eventually driven up Forestry Drive towards the Robin Hood Oak Tree and the Barnes Center, where it looks like they just appeared in this picture Bees posted.

In the meantime, a crew has been welding steel on the two columns that face the camera directly, where straddle the X braces. Two big metal fittings were added yesterday that look like the kind used to attach the brown temporary steel to the building elsewhere.

I assume this means the temporary steel for the southwest corner of the Dome might be getting put up soon. Though I don't see any brown steel nearby.
