the crane the crane

Exactly. As I said before, if SU wants to on one hand engage with the public in this curt and stingy manner while on the other hand pleading poverty in asking everyone to hurry up and buy season tickets, fair enough.

But it's no wonder that a lot of people don't have a positive view of the institution. They can't get out of their own way on simple PR stuff.
Quite an overreaction during a public health crisis regarding a camera that at most 100 people are actually looking at.

Would I like to check in from time to time, sure. Am I going to get upset at SU about it? Absolutely not. They have more important issues to deal with.

I don't think Wildhack's secretary's worthless reply to Bill took much time away from anyone's work on the pandemic response. No more time than sending Timonen's draft (above) would've taken.

Overreaction? I dunno. I'm not writing angry letters or mailing back my season tickets or camping out in Crouse-Hinds with a hand-made sign. I'm just calling a spade a spade: SU's outreach has been and is lousy. It is what it is, I don't much care, but it looks ridiculousness in the context of their desperation to cultivate customer loyalty in a kind of crappy environment.

Interesting article in the PS saying why the lighting for the Dome will not be installed by local company Ephesus. They had a contract in place in January and Ephesus came back later and wanted to make changes to the contract. Hoyt and SU said no to the changes. They tried to work with Ephesus, but they couldn’t come to an agreement. SU and Hoyt have moved on to someone else.

I don’t think anyone is getting super upset. It’s just disappointing. The couple sentences I wrote above took exactly 30 seconds but come from a place of actually caring. It’s not difficult or distracting to the primary mission right now. Good businesses all over the world should be finding easy and useful ways that they can be communicating with their customers, because that’s about all they CAN be doing with their customers.

No moose here but I'm watching this huge, long haired cat who keeps showing up under my bird feeder. He's been stalking moles who have been eating the bird seed that has spilled onto the ground. I'm rooting for the cat.
So….who was the winner? The cat or the moles? Has your bird feed disappeared? Or has the cat gotten fatter and hairier?

Further, John is nothing more than a tenant in the stadium. He does not own or manage the project. Any interaction should be with Pete Sala, not John.

This. SUAD has very little influence over this project. The lighting thing being the most recent example.

Please do NOT reference any information gleaned from members of Cuse Council. Council members are bound by an NDA and must respect the terms of that NDA. Certainly natural for some details to come out in casual conversation, but direct reference to discussions held in Council meetings can have a negative impact on the confidential information that is shared with that group.

I do not believe Mr. Sala can make this happen, he can only request it. Most if not all construction projects are under control of the contractor until completed. Mr. Sala could request a camera, however if the contractor is against this it can not happen.
The previous camera was not inside the project itself and could be controlled by SU admins.

Can you set up a live stream? I would like to check in from time to time to see how the cat is doing.

Basically Signify (the parent company) wanted to limit their risk. Sucks for Ephesus.

I think Musco Lighting out of Iowa got the contract.

The last paragraph of the article is very positive. We may not be getting much outdoor lighting but it sound very promising for inside:

While Sala acknowledged Friday that Ephesus won’t be involved, he said he doesn’t expect it will diminish the quality of the project.
“It will be spectacular," Sala said. “It’s so spectacular that we have a meeting once a week on lighting programs. I can’t make this up ... We have calls with Hayner regularly and I hear about it after. People are enjoying getting ready to do fun things.”

Signify really made Ephesus look bad here. The LED lighting market is very competitive. They fight tooth and nail for each contract with a strong competitor.

Losing a big contract on your backyard is a PR disaster. They just significantly damaged their acquisition.

So I'm a novice at all this, but is this a situation where another lighting company can step in and take on the project without too much delay?

They were involved in the original bidding process. They should be able to meet the September opening. We should be able to get some good poop on what Musco is installing. We have sources...just saying.

This is a lose, lose in my opinion, especially with Ephesus being in our back yard and the impressive work they have done; i.e., two most recent Super Bowl venues, more in the immediate future, new billion dollar stadiums, etc.

Obviously, I haven't an idea of the potential stringent "liquidation" type penalties/expenses they'd face for missing the deadlines, but I can't blame them if they are legit due to this unforeseen pandemic and relative labor, product/supply chain type issues that weren't foreseeable when the agreement was made. Therefore, their reasoning for wanting to add the "force majeure" language. Appears to be just more of the typical cut throat BS, etc. that is so commonplace in the construction industry, and where the GC/Construction Mgr. uses its upper hand for its sole benefit.

Apparently the deal was in place and moving forward and the new parent company used the acquisition to try to force some more favorable terms. Not difficult to see the rationale for the University and GC's refusal to renegotiate. Particularly when they had a replacement in hand that had already responded to an RFP and evaluation process.

It appears tht Musco is gaining momentum and on a par with Ephesus. The "show lights" simulations on their website are pretty impressive!

Perhaps, but all that being said, there's a reason SU went with Ephesus over Musco in the first place.

What makes them stand out (Ephesus)

Their lighting system uses the latest technology which gives a better focus of the semiconductor light that is produced. The special lenses that intensify and direct the light are superior likewise. They are the only company that uses a special color temperature feature that can be adjusted. Allowing the user to switch intensity of whites to warmer hues. All of which can be done at the touch of a button.

Musco vs Ephesus

Ephesus obviously has higher levels of technology and products that control color temperature. Whereas Musco is deeply rooted and committed to keeping a close connection with local sport projects and high school sports. If Budget is a concern then Musco is an affordable solution and works well for any professional sport level. Whereas, Ephesus is that top shelf cognac with a global angel umbrella over their shoulder.
