The Irishman

Loved it! Thought Pacino was over the top but maybe that's how Hoffa was. I've never seen video of Hoffa "performing".

Could be a case of expectations, too - I came in fearing Ocean's 13 Pacino, so though he was over the top, he wasn't nearly as bad as my worst-case scenario. So I enjoyed it.

I dont remember the name but it was the last hit in the film they showed a close up of the victims face that was a little off-putting but that's it. the violence isn't really over the top.

If you're as squeamish as I am (spoiler: nobody's as squeamish as I am), that shouldn't be too bad. Bullet entry wounds don't bother me so much in movies. (Knife wounds or bullet exit wounds are usually a different story.)

It's really not I'm just trying to think of the goriest part of movie, which is really nbd.

I watched about an 1 hour and a half of it and turned it off. The de-aging was really off-putting, especially when you see De Niro with his 35 year old face shuffling around like the 75 year old man that he is. The ass kickings he's handing out weren't terribly realistic either as a result. And way too much dialogue! Christ on a bike! That film needs to be cut down to an hour and half. 3.5 hours is the definition of self-indulgent.

how bad are the violent scenes in this? I was going to watch it last weekend but wasn't sure I was up for peoples heads/fingers/arms getting cut or blown off.
They chop off your sanity minute by minute

While Frank Sheenan was an actual person, such a work of fiction. The dude is the Forrest Gump of the mob.

I thought Pacino was fine.

Pacino’s acting was fine but not as Jimmy Hoffa

Watched this today, and it was probably a good hour too long. De Niro acted very well, but him trying to portray younger is just gone, the grocery store beating was cringe worthy. Pacino was just not the choice for Hoffa and Pesci was his usual great self. All in all it was ok, wasn't great, wasn't bad, just ok.

I watched it over the course of a few days. Obviously I had some discontinuity because of that and often I was distracted during scenes. Definitely long. Was entertaining to me. Hard to keep track of all the back and forth though.

Agree about pesci. Great acting and the deniro scene at end talking on phone was pretty solid acting too.

The movie was just okay but Pesci was outstanding. It was worth watching for just his performance.
I'm of the same opinion. Might be my favorite work of his ever. Understated but super impactful.

This scene really damaged the movie, but other than that it was good. I really liked Pacino. I was highly entertained by his ongoing feud with Tony Pro. This is clearly a step below the Goodfellas and Casino, but it is still worth checking out if you like the genre.

i watched it. all of it. not at once. it's one damn ass long movie. frankly i don't get the buzz. to me it was like taking in an old timers game at yankee stadium. you're rooting so hard for your old favorites to hit and run and field like they used to . then you realize hey these guys are really old , it's just an exhibition.i still stand and clap at the end but it's really just a drive down memory lane. everybody was great. the movie not so much.

Update - I was in Philly this morning for a funeral and ran into a retired Fed I know. He reminded me of mutual friends who worked for the Office of Labor Racketeering in Philly (OLR). The OLR convicted Sheeran in the early 80's for Labor Racketeering. This predated my knowing and working with the OLR. My retired Fed friend further told me that it was rumored that Sheeran had ordered a hit on the OLR guys.

I got thru this finally.. had not read into the story line at all so didnt realize it was attempting to tell a true story of some kind. thought the acting was real solid and nice to see these guys in roles they play well. Still it was overly long without really advancing the story, they really muddled the story lines at times and made the timelines really hard to follow.

The fact that a Martin Scorsese film with DeNiro, Pacino and Pesce took you "a few days" to get through says it all. Just not compelling. Slow, slow, much too slow.

It wasn’t epic. But it was still good.

As for length, it was long. Not that it was a problem... but my wife and I divided it up into thirds.

You’re not wrong but that was mostly because I had limited time when I chose to watch it each time

Was too long, though I enjoyed most of the characters.

it’s time for a new generation of gangsters. Love Peaky Blinders and Lawless.
