The Official SU Basketball Transparency Thread

I totally get this. Although aren’t we less than a year away from NIL going in house and players being paid directly by schools? That’s a public number. Maybe I’m confusing elements of the House settlement?
No - NIL is a constitutional right. It can't just go away. The schools will pay and the players will get NIL. That's my thoughts on it anyway. NIL came about because of the Supreme Court. That can't just be legislated away without collective bargaining with the players. And why would they agree to that?

As an aside it is too bad this country has such a low quality rail system. I wish I could take a high speed train to Syracuse vs driving 3:45+. I could make more BBall games that way. And the teams could use it like soccer teams do in Europe.

As someone that has lived in Germany over a decade now, can not overstate how amazing the train system is (especially for sports). For instance, my soccer club is playing a cup game tonight at 6 pm 300 miles away and will have high 4 figures away attendance on a Wednesday night. Imagine if you could get the train to NYC at 3 pm for a 7 pm tip and be home by 1 am, its so amazing.

3pm for a 7pm tip would be dicey, but you could leave at 2pm for a 7pm tip in NYC and be home by 1am-ish with a car, currently. I know nothing about high speed rail, but I think it would at least need to make the trip shorter than 3 hours, closer to 2 hours, to be worthwhile. I know riding is preferable to driving, but you’re paying a premium for it.

A lot of the high speed trains are twice as fast as driving. So it would be about a 2 hour train ride instead of the 5.5 that it takes now via train.

This will be a controversial take but I don’t think the strong class coming in next year should have any impact on what happens with the coaching situation. I don’t want to lose any of that class let alone all but if a reboot ends up with 15 inbound transfers as with a much stronger and capable staff then so be it. We already are in a period of cbb where nostalgia is all but lost and brands will be made purely on results and less about the connection players have to the school once they move on.

A great class with a bad system could just result in even more disappointment and wasted talent. I don’t want to see a legacy recruit of our namesake athletic center be part of a disaster and that has to be part of our history along with JBs sons being on his only losing season etc etc.
