The question is going to be asked at some point…

I didn’t take my Syracuse shirt off after the game yesterday (actually still wearing it) and multiple 25 year olds from Boston that don’t pay attention to college basketball cracked Boeheim Show jokes to me. Not cool.

If I remember correctly and my memory is far from perfect, the Bobby Knight departure at Indiana stirred up some controversy. He had some diehards that backed him no matter how wacky he behaved.
The dude physically assaulted a student and a former player. He was a liability to the University at that point - he had to be fired.

None of that is a reason to try and force a kid out with a year of eligibility remaining. We aren’t talking about JB. We’re talking about Buddy.
Meant to ask this in an earlier thread that got closed.

If Buddy comes back, his scholarship won’t count against the 13 limit, correct?

I honestly don’t know how that works. If I remember correctly they didn’t in football did they?

I believe you can only over the 13 this season. After this season, you have to figure out how to get to 13 between the COVID years and everything else. But I'm not 100% sure.

Such a deflating scenario overall.

What happens if a decision is made and those so dedicated to JB and the program as being his decide to pull back and abandon their support of the program as well? Is that a realistic scenario? If so that itself is a disgusting thought but also one that could be catastrophic for the future of the program.

ACC TV money something we didn’t have previously.

If donors want to pull back thank them for their support and rebuild the program.
Winning will makeup what is lost.

Running it back isn’t going to change next season.
We need upgrades and there is no way JB would reduce the minutes. None of the freshmen are higher rated than Benny.
But they may all be better skilled.

There may be some so loyal to JB that they may withhold support, but I seriously doubt that would be the majority of major donors.

I know that, but that doesn't mean that some of those Indiana fans didn't want him gone. It's Indiana after all.

To me JW seemingly has the temperament to navigate this. Probably won't be really pretty but two factors that I think help are Julie and the fact Jim lives here and probably still will and I just can't see him burning everything to the ground. Really can't. He will want a box for every home game, he will want to watch what happens. I don't see him torching it on his way out.

What guard is going to get 10 MPG with Buddy/Girard/Torrence on the roster and from which player’s minutes.
I was referring to Benny compared to next years recruits.

I mean if Benny comes back he is starting next year.
Jimmy isn’t even a lock to be back.
Buddy can come back for sure.

About this season, the make up of the team, everyone coming back next year and if it’s time.

The questions will not be posed to JB, but the post standard will ask Wildhack post season. They are not going to subject Mike or Donna to the wrath of JB at a presser. Back when they were a real newspaper, they’d send a non sports reporter to ask the really difficult questions to protect the beat writers. Will see if they do that again.

Technically it’s JW’s call, but he is in an impossible position. The drumbeats for this not to be run back next year are going to get louder and louder.

It’s going to be a national discussion very soon. The Jay Bilas’s of the world see the personnel decisions. The veiled descriptions about what is going on have already started. It’s just the beginning.

This can end disappointingly, sad or horrifyingly ugly. JB holds those cards.
Good stuff but we all knew it would end this way.

You would think Benny would start, but I think Brown could be a major surprise next year. He’s a defensive, rebounding forward we haven’t had in several years.

SU better be prepared for a substantial drop in season tickets next year. I can see several thousand less sales next year. People have realized staying home because of covid and watching on tv is not all that bad.
I used to scoff at people who complained about parking and traffic.

I still scoff at people who complain about traffic. But parking legitimately sucks now. I used to have zero problem finding a small lot for $10. Now there’s nothing. Garage for $20 or $25 or something, smh.

Crum's departure wasn't the cleanest. Olsen's wasn't great at Arizona but a lot of that appeared to be health issues affecting his behavior.

Olsen had some memory issues. I was at a nike coaching clinic before his last season and his topic was post then repost and he said things that made no sense and seemed confused. There were a lot of high school coaches there concerned something was wrong with him. He was like sorry I'm really tired but it was strange.

It needs to be done sooner rather than later, and we will just have to deal with the results and consequences. The best case scenario for JB is… what? Lets suppose the max he could realistically coach would be another five years. What could happen in those five years to justify the continuing national public perception decline and loss of brand? Another bubble+ year and a surprise Sweet 16?

Anyone seeing that in the cards, with five freshman coming in, none ranked very high and all needing to learn how to play zone?

This all feels like procrastinating your colonoscopy. Hoping there’s nothing wrong.

The only way we are going to get appreciably better than what we are now is to make a grand, profound set of changes. That doesn’t mean the very next coach will be the solution. But it starts us on the path toward it. Suck it up, tighten your belts, gird your loins and deal. Change is going to happen, at some level, and it’s now to our benefit to make that change quickly. If Wildhack doesn’t already have the plan for that, then he’s the second part of the problem.
It's to late for that, the AD has no say over when JB leaves now. He gave that option away when he let JB force HOP to leave.
The only way JB leaves now is when he decides he wants to leave. A problem with that is whoever the new coach is JB will always be there.
